Your leaving out a tire plug kit and 12v powered air compressor, sometimes plugging is way more efficient than throwing on a spare. Also a hi-vis vest and some flares for the road.

For vehicles in the winter a large non scented candle is a must. I've broke down in winter in the mountains and used the candle heat the cab of the truck for the night.

Great list! For winter you definitely want the beanie and gloves. Especially if you're in a cold section of the country. Maybe even a small shovel. Up in the Northeast where we are I always throw a small collapsible snow shovel in the trunk, in case you ever get stuck in some snow and need to dig a tire or two out.

  • @bigredmed
    @bigredmed Рік тому +5

In the area north of Texas, you should have three things: An extra pair of gloves, a small shovel to get snow away from your wheels, and a container of ice melter salt as you may need to clear out a path around your truck to get out of a slick parking lot. A candle and some matches may be useful as well as a light and heat source in case you are stranded over night.

Great list. I swear by Midland emergency radios. If the head lamp stays in the vehicle I keep the batteries out and attached to the strap. That way there are no surprises when needed. We also keep a backpack with an extra change of clothing, socks, gloves, shoes and beanie inside along with other things.

I keep everything in my vehicles that you have listed except the radio. I prefer the Leatherman Wave for a multi tool and 4 gauge jumper cables. I dont scrimp on quality and gathered some great stuff at yard sales throughout the years.

Ditch the ziptie on the jumper cable(s) and replace it with velcro (hook/loop) tape, emergency triangles and/or road flares, and a portable air compressor. A quart of oil, a gallon of anti-freeze, a gallon of wiper fluid (get the kind that goes below zero), and a pack of auto fuzzes of various sizes and amperages.

I’ve been in 5 white out storms, all leading to the interstate I was on closing while I was still on it. What did I learn? First, fill gas tank before any trip over interstate highways and re-fill after using just a quarter tank. Next, when the fog, ice, sleet, or snow begins to confirm the weather report for blizzard weather conditions developing, get off of the interstate and use state highway to get to nearest motel. If motel is booked just remain in parking lot, This is where the wool blanket, water, and an MRE will tie you over. At any rate, this strategy along with the knowledge and equipment needed to change or pump up a tire, as well as a tripe A membership is all that I have needed to eventually get to my destination.

WNY here. In the winter I keep a tow strap, a fleece banket, extra hats, gloves, and socks, a pair of boots, and hanwarmers, and 2 snow brushes. Year round its several flashlights, first aid and trauma kits, rescue tool, multitool, ratchet straps.

Great list! I think that a fire extinguisher and blanket are critical but often overlooked items. Wool has the added benefits of keeping you warm even when wet and, just as importantly, not melting when near heat or flame like a poncho liner does. I'm not so sure about the glass breaker. What the world really needs is a $65 combo Glass Breaker, prybar and Bottle Opener in titanium (heck throw in a flashlight function while were at it!)

  • @brucetec6597

Great list. Some stuff I haven't thought of like the radio. I have one in my go bag at home but not in the car. I also keep a capable fire starter, some food rations, water, and a get home bag in case my truck is incapacitated and I have to truck it home.

Was in my first big car accident this summer. I'm doin better. Two things I wasn't aware of despite being a big prepper/EDC guy for years:
    1) Anything you might need after an accident, make sure y'all don't keep it in the glovebox in case it's completely jammed shut (like your glass breaker/seatbelt cutter). That's where I kept my LifeHammer tool. I was T-boned from the passenger side and the glovebox was impossible to get to until weeks later when I cut it open.
    2) A lot of newer cars do NOT have tempered glass in the front driver and front passenger windows! They're "laminated" just like the windshield and it'll be impossible to break in an emergency. So recommend y'all check all the windows in your vehicles and make note which say "tempered" and which say "laminated."
Also might be a good idea to not just lay your cell phone loosely, because that's gonna go flying in a collision and if you're hurt, can't call 911 if you can't reach your phone.
Oh bonus tip: Car broke down in 4 degree Fahrenheit weather 10 years ago, and my blanket was in the trunk, but the act of retrieving my blanket to keep warm caused me to have to exit my car and I was shivering like crazy within 10 minutes. So it might be a balancing act. Modern cars at least the back seats fold down so one doesn't have to leave their car to get stuff from the trunk.
Love your channel, Marine X. I laugh at your East Cleveland jokes ngl. Lived in Cleveland around E. 120th area and Euclid for a bit and went to East Cleveland more than I should have and I ain't going back to that entire STATE. God bless. Keep up the EDC vids, already bought a few things cuz of your content. Peace.

I like the fact of keeping an ice scraper in the car. But, have one in the house also. Once a year or so we run into ice that makes it almost impossible to get in the car. I learned the hard way and had to use a hair dryer to get in my truck because my ice scraper was in the cab.

I disagree on medical, you should get trauma supplies in your veichle, if you get in a car accident you need to be able to provide life saving first aid before the ambulance arrive there

    • @MarineX

Trauma supplies in untrained hands can cause harm. Ouchie boo boo kits are a standard.

Also putting yourself in harms way before the ambulance arrives can make you apart of the accident. Sometimes calling an ambulance is the best advice for a civilian.

Only thing I think is missing add zip ties and duct tape because I can't count how many times my family said to use zip ties and duct tape to fix something to get it to hold long enough to get to Napa or something like that 550 cord works great too for other things. Maybe your toppers coming off your truck or something or your car 550 cord fix that also maybe like a ET tool that would be nice and then definitely gloves gloves that you could grab something hot with like under the engine unless you have to check something he just pulled over and it's super hot and you could throw a Mylar blanket in there with that will blanket and you be extra toasty warm you could also if you had to cut it up in the small pieces and your duct tape that I mentioned earlier and duct tape that around

Also five litre bottles of anti ice agent or a bag of road salt or grit to try get some traction, change the tyres over to Winter rated tyres may help. Some Energy Drinks and Snacks as while Water is good for you keeping energy levels is also important that way when you reach for the water its hit the point of been an Emergency situation in which might be best to abandon the vehicle to reach somewhere safer like a Hotel, Motel or wherever it is you need to get to.
