Hey, Daylon, I re-watched and noticed you mentioned the sensitivity of the focusing knob. Preach ON! I agree. I added a thin plastic zip tie around the rubber knob and use the long "tail" of the tie to do fine focusing ... gives some extra leverage and the bendy nature helps desensitize movement. Cheers!
Great video as always! I also have a C6 but with little use if any. The problem is that I cannot get it optimally collimated. I get it close but not as it should be. It seems to me that the collimation screws lack the tolerance/precision for the very fine final adjustment. I even replaced the stock screws with Bob’s knobs to no avail.😢. I am seriously thinking on selling it.
I've checked mine, so far it seems ok. But then again, it's still using factory collimation and I've been as gentle as I can be! I guess we'll find out if the same issues arise...
I would replace the celestron screws with hex screws (like Meade uses) - it's much easier to make the tiny adjustments needed to get perfect collimation. Bob's Knobs - no personal experience but I've read in several places that they are not suited for SCTs (they were developed originally for Newts)
Trying to do the same with my c6, can you describe the imaging gear and specifically the back focus train. Love your content! Please share all you know.
Fantastic intro information regarding the C6. I was going to place an order for a SharpStar 94EDPH Premium APO S Triplet Refractor, but it's not very useful for planetary visual astronomy. Now, I am thinking that a C6 with the reducer could be a great alternative as a travel scope for both visual and AP scope for both planets and DS AP... AND I'd save about $1000. :) With the C6, can you get a good full disk image of the Sun/Moon with the reducer and without too much vignetting? At least not so much as to affect AP? Thank you.
Those are some points I will be discussing this weekend on my stream. But long story short, Sun/Moon you won't notice it much as long as you are centered.
@@AstroEscape I had an opportunity to buy a SharpStar 94EDPH with a free reducer, so I decided to go that route. After some personal testing, I decided that the C6 is more of a “Jack of all trades, master of none” LOL I don’t mean to disparage this great little scope, but I want to capture the best images within my budget, I really should buy two scopes, rather than buying one to do everything. For planetary (plus sun/moon) imaging, I am considering a Mak with its high f ratio and good contrast.
Are you using it for visual or photography for the eclipse? Depending on eyepiece you should be able to. But with a camera, depending on the sensor size, you might not see the whole thing.
I'm kinda sorry I sold my C6 maybe I'll get another sometime, the dew rings are an excellent product though as I have one on my RASA 11 & that works just fine with the Pegasus powerbox I use. Great video I do kinda miss doing solar outreach the last time I did an event was 2019 so need to get my ass in gear as I've a boxfull of solar glasses to give away lol. Clear skies
You're welcome! So far, it isn't smart, but I also don't have the thermistor yet. But, it will power it and you can set power levels. The real test of how well it'll control it is coming up this summer as humidity increases here!

OAG is kind of like using a right angle adapter for a camera, and using that to guide.... but the camera is attached behind the mirror of the right angle finder. And the mirror is small so it's not in the way of the main camera. I recorded at Wagman Observatory near Pittsburgh. I'll be headed to Cherry Springs soon too!

@@AstroEscape Hey, thanks SO MUCH for this. I have a C6 on AVX and have been trying to find the best way to auto-guide for astrophotography. I hope you'll go into depth on what items you are using in this video, your impressions, suggestions, etc. Many MANY thanks. Bob
@@TheGoKidd I will. I put the same combo to work over the weekend at the Cherry Springs Star Party and learned some more. This past weekend will have me busy with ideas for the next couple of months :)

I put an EAF on it after I made this video. No more dealing with that lol!
That's a neat trick you did for yours.
Nice. I just bought a Celestron 6" Schmidt Cessegrain optical tube and a Starizona HyperStar 6 v4. Hope everything works okay.
Nice, I hope everything works out well!

That will be coming, but it may be a few weeks until that video is out. Big star party coming up :D

Nice video! I miss my time at Wagman
Star parties coming up soon if you can swing by! Check the club website :)
Wow you don’t see many videos on the C6. Interesting.
I know! It's either all refractors or Edge HD's lol. Thanks for swinging by Skye!
@@AstroEscape yeah I can’t find an edge 8 in stock but the 6 looks interesting and easy to handle
I'm thinking on buying the evolution 6 to see the solar eclipse. Can it be see the hole sun on it??

With the eclipse coming up next year, now would be the time to hand them out!
Sadly I'm in the UK so I can't I'm afraid.
Thank you for confirming the ASIair will control the C6's dew ring!

@@AstroEscape That's surprising to me. I would fear the dew ring wattage would be too high for the ASIair. No?
@@TheGoKidd You can change the percentage in the app, so it doesn't have to run full blast.
