Hope you have a speedy recovery, Anna. Don't worry about video postings etc. Take time to feel completely well and take care of your health first. We'll be here for you when you are good and ready.
Yes! We'll be here when you get back. Just take care of you! I feel your pain - literally. I also tore my labram about 3 years ago and went for surgery to repair it but my ortho saw osteoarthritis in the X-rays and MRI (I was in my late 40s). So we ditched the repair and went straight to total hip replacement since I would likely need that at some point in the future anyway. They remove the labram altogether for hip replacement, so it takes care of both problems and recovery is supposedly much easier than labram repair. Hopefully your doctor looked as well (I am sure he/she did). Either way, I hope you have a speedy recovery!
Haha - I actually came here to post about the chicken curry recipe but got distracted by the hip comments. :-). Thank you so much for posting! I made it today for lunch since I had all the ingredients handy. So good - reminds me of something I had in the Dominican Republic about 20 years ago and was never able to quite recreate. I think because I assumed it was a Caribbean recipe and made with coconut milk, none of the recipes I tried were even close. This the closest recipe I have found! I did add a pinch of both garlic and ginger pastes, mainly because I had those tubes in the fridge already. So delicious.
This is one of those channels where I feel as if I'm able to time-travel back to a simpler-time, especially the times I spent helping my mother in the kitchen. Here's to all those who can't be with us for the Memorial Day Weekend . . . Cheers !!!
I know these videos are a lot of work for you, but they are some of my favorites. I love this one! So sorry you’ve been struggling with hip pain. I hope you have a quick recovery. Please don’t stress about posting videos. We will be here when you return!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery! My best friend's mother would use Dream Whip to make a delicious root beer float cake. It was IBC root beer, a white cake mix, and Dream Whip. The root beer replaced the water or milk called for in the cake and Dream Whip. After baking and cooling; the cake was chilled in the refrigerator. Then the Dream Whip made with root beer was used to frost the cake. Served cold from the refrigerator it was a delicious summertime treat.
Here's to a quick recovery! If you are making videos ahead what about some meal prep videos for someone who is having surgery/baby/caring for another, etc? Or alternately some quick dinners with 15 minutes or less prep and then whatever bake time? And if you take a break, no problem. We'll be thumbing through our recipe books or going back and watching content we missed.
If you prepare dream whip with the eggnog that’s available around the holidays, or even with chocolate milk, it makes a really decadent topping or frosting, or a filling for cream puffs.
I'm sorry you have to have surgery! Also sorry that you had to justify that decision on camera, just to ward off comments from people that have no business judging what you know is best for you. Take care of yourself. We will be here when you heal and feel like filming again. I love your channel!
Girl, no apology necessary when you are taking care of yourself! Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope surgery corrects and heals the pain. Take the time you need, we will wait patiently.j That breakfast sandwich was a bit of a mind blow for me using an actual bun…I’ll have a few after the long weekend and now have an easy use for them.
My husband just had a hip replacement on Wednesday. Don’t know the difference in the surgeries, but we were home by dinner. They had him up and walking within a couple of hours. He had to do steps, walk X# of feet and get in and out of a car before they released him. Good luck and have a speedy recovery.
I've heard crazy things about the total hip replacements! That is insane. To compare, I'm about 40, just had several tears repaired in March, and was on crutches and still nerve blocked on the way home (surgery at 8, driving home by 11:30 AM). Pain was not so bad, I was really surprised because I'm the type who eats pain pills like tic tacs when they come my way, lol. I didn't hardly touch my strong painkillers, I simply didn't need them past that first five days. I was on six meds out the door to help healing and pain and inflammation. As for walking and such, it was late week two when I was starting to experiement with putting any weight on my foot, and was trying to go without two crutches week three, and my PT "let" me stop using them week 4, but at home I was hobbling back and forth without it just fine and the PT said that was normal, too. I'm hoping your husband also had a speedy recovery and takes good care of himself to heal it up in the future so he'll never need another procedure! Here's to a pain free life and a mobility filled future!
When I had foot surgery I didn’t have the upper body strength for crutches so I rented a knee scooter with a front basket, which gave me my freedom back. Also don’t forget a small shower chair and hand held shower hose. These are things you don’t think about until you need them.
Extra prayers for your upcoming surgery. Thank you for taking care of yourself, too often we tend to ignore our own needs when we take care of others. Even when it's making funny, delightful and visually delicious recipes for a few thousand strangers. xoxox 🙂💜
Anna! DREAM WHIP! What memories that brings back! My neighbor in the early 70’s used to put a packet in her cakes..right before everyone started putting pudding mix in. Her cakes were Devine..in texture and moisture! Now I have to dig out my box of old recipes and make a cake! Love ya, Girl! Good luck with your surgery! We’ll be here waiting for you! ❤🐾
I love watching your channel. It brings back my childhood. I had the best mom growing up. She would let my brother and I cook with her. Especially during Christmas.
This dish is really perfect for your subscribers in Florida. We grow loads of tomatoes and strawberries, so I'm really loving that simple lunch recipe! Native Floridians love tomato sandwiches for lunch. Nothing better! Especially if that tomato was recently plucked off the tomato plant in the backyard!
Take care of your health, Anna. We will all be here when you are feeling up to posting again. But it's super-cool and sweet of you to try to film ahead so we can still get videos when you're recuperating. Cheers, dear one.

wishing you well during your surgery and recovery. You must be exhausted from making shows ahead of time Thank you so much for doing that. enjoy your show so much I've learned so much about just general cooking knowledge. Even though I'm old I can still learn to cook new ways.
I have a Good Housekeeping Cakes recipe book, printed here in Australia somewhere in the early 50s, I think, and I can't get over how similar the style is! I used to love looking at all the pictures when I was young and beg my mum to make such lovely things. The colour pictures were wonderful. I still have the book. Maybe its time to embark on my own little vintage journey of discovery?!
My grandmother used to use that Dream Whip in the 80s for her deserts. It was quick and easy and sweet. And how adorable are the sketches in this cookbook. I also so so wish you well with your hip surgery. My mother had hip surgery and it took a few weeks for her to recover, but I wish you so much luck. Happy healing!
I admit that I prefer the older cook books for the original recipes. They use different methods and spices to flavor things. Sometimes you have a craving for something different and the older books come is really handy as well. The Dream Whip is great and not quite as sweet as cool whip for topping pies and cakes. Yes, I do use it as well. Have a great day
Best wishes on your surgery. Dream whip is what we used before Cool Whip came on the market. As you can tell, the advantage was the shelf-stable aspect . I specifically remember adding Dream Whip to Jello recipes. Decades ago I went back to real whipping cream. But, have you seen the price jump lately? We just bought a quart of heavy whipping cream for $5.89 the other day. Wow! Might have to seek out Dream Whip again.
So sorry about your hip pain!! I hope the surgery and recovery go super smoothly for you. I loved seeing these late 1950s meals. I especially enjoy a stuffed tomato. I might just have to make some soon -- the last time I saw one on a restaurant menu it included an ingredient I'm allergic to, so I missed out!
Okay so I came at full speed back to this video! I just watched a Beryl Shereshewski video, “how people cook tomatoes around the world” and she did an Egyptian stuffed tomato! I instantly thought of this video and how cool it is that cultures physically so far apart love a tomato stuffed with rice and other amazing things!
Heck, yeah I remember Cool Whip! My mom used it all the time. Probably because we had six kids and heavy cream would’ve been a lot of money with the family of eight. I also love stuffed tomatoes, and you can stuff them with so many great things. a great lunch is tuna salad in, the tomato but not cooked.
Yes, I still use Dream Whip! I make the Dream Pie recipe on the box for grandkids. They love them just as much as I did as a kid. They also like making the pies! Wishing you all the best with your surgery! I've been watching your videos for a long time, but hadn't commented. We'll be here when your feeling up to posting again! Don't push yourself! ❤
Hi Anna! Hope you do well with your recovery! Haven’t had surgery, but I do have the same condition…..on a brighter note…I really enjoyed this video as I enjoy all of them! You bring back a lot of happy memories and particularly the “Dream Whip”! Yes, this was a staple in our family of 10!!!! Our favorite pie my mom made was “Dream Pie”…… 2 envelopes Dream Whip whipped topping Mix 2 3/4 cups cold milk, DIVIDED 1 tsp vanilla 2 packages (4 serving size) Jello instant pudding, any flavor 1 prepared graham cracker crust Beat topping mix with 1 cup milk and vanilla with electric mixer on high speed 6 mins or until topping thickens and form peaks. Add remaining 1 3/4 cups milk and pudding mixes beat on low speed until blended. Beat on high speed 2 mins, scraping bowl occasionally, spoon into graham cracker crust. Refrigerate at least 4 hours. Serve any fruit on side. Hope you will make this on your channel to share with everyone! Your the best Anna❣️take good care 😊
Ouch. I've had a torn labrum. Prayers for a speedy recovery. I have a genetic disorder that affects my collagen, things don't stay in place. I tore mine walking across the living room 😂
@cooking_the_books Hi Anna 😊🍓 Such a cute plate with the strawberries. Dream Whip was a staple at our house when I was growing up. It came on the market the year I was born. 😀 My mom loved cold desserts, pies and cobblers so we used plenty, and probably around late 1960's or around 1970, she added Cool Whip which I think tasted a lot better years ago. These recipes look wonderful! So does that cookbook. It was published 5 years after my parents were married. I'll have to search for it. She probably didn't have a copy, but the recipes sound like things she would make. The little cookbooks look very interesting. I wish you all the best with your hip surgery and recovery. 🙏🏻🌷🌷🌷🤗 Thank you for another great Sunday video!
My mom always used dream whip because it was cheap and we didn't have a grocery nearby. I honestly don't remember what it tastes like. She would use it for jello pudding pies.
OMG! That's crazy girl! I JUST had arthroscopic labral repair on left hip in March! I'm just wrapping up physical therapy and am about to embark on a two week trip to Colombia, so wish me luck! I've been working hard to be able to just make it through an airport in a hurry! My advice to you, do NOT overdo things if you think "Oh it doesn't hurt" - I was surprised myself in my experience because I had three anchors put in and serious tears from having deformities in the socket and femoral head (both sides too, so right side is coming next year!) the pain was not so bad, but the days when I got overconfident with PT exercises and would dearly pay for it the next day. So listen to your PT, go to all your sesions, the healing is super important, and this is coming from a similarly shaped fellow lady whose hips have been long suffering (and the injuries kept me from doing the things I loved, so I gained weight and was out of shape). Take good care of yourself! Pamper yourself! Get some silly lego or jewelry making kits or something fun to do with your hands when you are stuck in bed the first couple of weeks. Oh, I got a toilet chair for that first couple of weeks, and had to wear a nightgown with ahem, well I ditched the underwear because those first couple of weeks on crutches and not putting any weight on the affected leg can be brutal when trying to pee! The raised bars on the toilet chair were a godsend, and skipping underwear for that first week made the whole process a lot easier. And my partner was amazing, helping me on and off that first week or so. I hope your partner can help you at home so you heal up with more ease. Ok, I was just surprised to hear your update since I haven't run into ANYone else lately who is having or had a labral repair!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
I pray you have a uncomplicated recovery. Had a right total hip replacement 6 months ago. Find your channel inspirational. Being a Boomer you frequently cook from my era.
I live in France and there’s a French stuffed tomato dish, but uses ground beef, spices, the tomato flesh and bread crumbs. It’s called Tomates Farcies, not a light dish. I did make it once, but felt my recipe of it was too much work for the product. You can buy them premade in the grocery store. Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgery. We will be here whenever you post!
Wishing you a speedy recovery!! A famous ballerina, Wendy Whalen had the same thing...they made a documentary about her recovery called Restless Creature. Just a bit of trivia you probably don't need.
Prayers for a speedy recovery. Take all the time you need to heal. I have 2 bad knees and surgery pending. God bless you. Thank you for your videos. ❤❤❤
Hi Anna! Thank you for all the recipes you featured today. I am excited to make the stuffed tomato! Wishing you a speedy recovery, dearest! Don't worry too much about the videos. We will still love watching them! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was just a half second ahead of you on “tomato guts” or possibly I read your mind. I’m 61 yrs and I remember Dream Whip from my very young days and then Cool Whip frozen toppings from more teen years. All the recipes looked good but I think I will try the Curry dish. Get well soon wishes to you. Be patient with yourself in recovery, surgery of any kind will be exhausting so don’t be disappointed that you don’t have your usual pace. ❤
Hi Anna! I just inherited a stack of vintage BHG cookbooks and some blue cornflower Corning ware! Since finding your channel about a year ago, I’ve discovered a love of vintage cookery. Thank you! Hoping your surgery goes as well as these things can and your recovery is speedy.
Wife here -husband had hip replacement and it was great! Walked out of surgery far better than he walked in even wit a 2 hour drive home from surgery we were home by noon
I own a rollator that doubles as a wheelchair. It's so wonderful for getting around when it's needed. I have lent it to family after surgeries including back surgery and it's so nice to have the support to walk and the option to be wheeled when your body is just done.
Sending healing thoughts your way for a speedy recovery after your surgery. Take time for yourself to heal! I grew up in a 1950's built house that had copper and aqua colors throughout the kitchen. All the appliances were aqua. Such iconic 50's colors, just like the front cover of your cookbook.
Growing up we used Dream Whip all the time. Making jello parfaits, on angel cake with berries, on strawberries, mixed with pudding to make mousse. We thought it was special🎉 I used to make baked tomatoes in the 70s bit used the guts chopped fine instead of rice and mixed with Italian breadcrumbs, so it did have herbs😅 . Wishing you a successful surgery and good recovery.❤
I have a recipe from my Aunt , called Dream Whip Torte with crushed pineapple. Have made it for many years. My husband requested it for dessert all the time. Very good !
I just had anterial hip surgery 3 weeks ago. I feel amazing! It’s so nice to be rid of the constant pain. I didn’t use crutches. I had a walker the first week then cane now nothing. I go to PT twice a week and that really helped. I hope the same recovery for you! And funny I am making a baked tomato tonight- mine has mozzarella instead of cheddar but very similar style.
Anna, please take care of yourself . Your health and recovery is what is important to all of us. Don’t rush back. Take your time. We will wait happily for you. ❤❤❤❤ I grew up with Dream Whip and still love it. You’re about to faint when I tell you this next part because you know how I feel about tomatoes but that cooked stuffed tomato is actually something that I am looking forward to trying.
Best wishes on your hip surgery, hope you have a speedy recovery. When I was young we would make a chocolate dream cake using Dream Whip. It was very good
The tomato dish is what they make all the time where my mother in law lives, stuffed tomatoes, peppers, hot peppers, grape leaves, onions, but they put alot of herbs in it, they are delicious
Love your videos Anna! I hope all goes well with your surgery and that you can finally be pain free 🙏🏻. Take care of yourself and don’t do more than you should! We will all be here when you get back ❤️
Good luck with your surgery. One recipe I remember was from a Jello cookbook. You prepared lime, orange, cherry and raspberry in flat containers and let them set(small packs). I think you use a large pack lemon and let partially set then mix in a of one pack of dream whip prepared into the lemon jello once that is mixed add all of the different jellos to the lemon mixture that set and cut up into squares. This will be put in pan that is lined on the bottom and up the sides with lady fingers(sponge kind). Let it set in fridge until set. I think this was called crown of jewels. It was really good but makes a big pan.
I hadn't thought about dream whip in a long time. My mom used to make a chocolate dream pie with it, and the little version of me used to beg for it weekly.
Dream Whip was a big staple in my house when growing up up and was used in lots of jello recipes and other dessert recipes. I can’t get it anymore at our grocery store.
I love your videos. My childhood experience with food is SO similar to yours. I had hip replacement surgery 3 months ago after living with the pain of no cartiledge in my right hip for about a year. So while I don't know your own pain, I sympathize greatly with your situation. Speedy recovery to you. Keep doing what you're doing and keep being you. :)
I always forget to say how much I love all your little dishes so I’ll say it at the beginning of the video. Looks like a good one. You had me at the dream whip photo lol. My mother used that all the time. Good luck and prayers for your upcoming surgery and recovery. Take good care of you. ♥️
Hi Anna, My daughter had a torn labrum repair when she was 19-20…Just rest & do as your told by Dr. & PT. She healed quickly. plus it helps her Mama ( me) is a retired nurse. Speedy recovery Ana,! We i’ll be binge watching or REWATCHING YOUR VIDEOS.- Anita3kids
Good luck with your surgery. I hope everything goes well. I’m about to have my seventh back surgery. I have the best looking surgeon in the world. I just keep going back for more! Much love and prayers.
It seems like many dessert recipes from the past used Dream Whip as an ingredient, now that it’s on your radar you might see some recipes to help use it up. Different joint, but my sister had shoulder labrum surgery after trying PT and injections and she’s glad she made the decision to have it. Not only is her pain relieved, she feels free from having to modify her day to day activities to prevent increased shoulder pain. She said she sleeps better now with not having to accommodate certain positions to avoid pain. So I wish you a quick and complication free recovery. 😊
My mom has used Dream Whip for years and still does today! I remember her using it on puddings , deserts all throughout my childhood in the 60’s and 70’s 😋 I cannot believe it’s still sold today…

If you eat it for breakfast....it's breakfast. Cold pizza, leftover Chinese. Whatever makes you happy and feeds you.

That tomato filling made me think of the "Spanish rice" my mom made when I was growing up in the 70s. It would be good with capers!.
YES capers would be excellent with it!
I love stuffed tomatoes with creamed spinach topped with parm cheese as breadcrumbs ❤

The curry dish reminds me of coronation chicken, which was invented to be served at Elizabeth II's coronation. Not the same dish, but similar idea.

Our favorite pie my mom made was “Dream Pie”……
2 envelopes Dream Whip whipped topping Mix
2 3/4 cups cold milk, DIVIDED
1 tsp vanilla
2 packages (4 serving size) Jello instant pudding, any flavor
1 prepared graham cracker crust
Beat topping mix with 1 cup milk and vanilla with electric mixer on high speed 6 mins or until topping thickens and form peaks.
Thank you! ❤
Thank you for another great Sunday video!
My mom always used dream whip because it was cheap and we didn't have a grocery nearby. I honestly don't remember what it tastes like. She would use it for jello pudding pies.
I am so glad i found your channel.
I'm enjoying the recipes you make.
Thank you! Glad to have you here. ☺
Wishing you a good recovery. I suffer from hip pain too.
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your experience! I hope your trip goes smoothly. ❤
I pray you have a uncomplicated recovery. Had a right total hip replacement 6 months ago. Find your channel inspirational. Being a Boomer you frequently cook from my era.
Thank you! ❤
Have a quick recovery Anna! We'll all be here when you return 💚
Thank you! ❤
Wishing you a speedy recovery!! A famous ballerina, Wendy Whalen had the same thing...they made a documentary about her recovery called Restless Creature. Just a bit of trivia you probably don't need.
Oh wow! I'll have to look for that!
I hope your recovery is quick and painless and you heal to pain free. Take good care of yourself.
Thank you! ❤
Thank you! ❤
All the food looks easy and delicious. I'm glad people are liking these videos. 👍😋
Hope everything goes good with your surgery and you have a speedy recovery.
I do remember Dream whip! But it’s dim. The horrific assortment of processed food we lived on is truly amazing to me. Lol
Get well soon !
Thank you! I just love that aqua color. A whole suite of aqua appliances sounds amazing!
Very good !
Sounds divine! 😋
So excited to try the stuffed tomatoes 🍅 Sending love and healing ❤️🩹
Thank you! ❤
Praying for a speedy recovery for you Anna! Don't you worry about us, we will be fine. The tomato recipe and breakfast sandwich looked yummy!
Thank you! ❤
I LOVE stuffed grape leaves! 😋
Praying for a quick and speedy recovery for you. Hopefully, the surgery corrects the problem you have.
Thank you! ❤
I love your channel, Anna. 🙏’s for the surgery and a speedy recovery.
Thank you! ❤
Love your videos Anna! I hope all goes well with your surgery and that you can finally be pain free 🙏🏻. Take care of yourself and don’t do more than you should! We will all be here when you get back ❤️
Thank you! ❤
Mom and me would use Dream Whip when I was a kid before Cool Whip wax a thing. We'd especially use it in fruit salads, desserts, etc.
I have a vague recollection of a chocolate pudding and dream whip pie from the 1980's.
I hadn't thought about dream whip in a long time. My mom used to make a chocolate dream pie with it, and the little version of me used to beg for it weekly.
Definitely remember Dream Whip, grandma used it instead of Cool Whip
I used to love Dream Whip.
I grew up with Dreamwhip. My mom loved it.
Hope your surgery goes really well!!! I’m sure we will all be patient while you take your time and recover!!! ❤
Thank you! ❤
Best of luck and a speedy recovery, Anna. I love watching your videos. Dream Whip, now that was a walk down memory lane! Thank you!
I always forget to say how much I love all your little dishes so I’ll say it at the beginning of the video. Looks like a good one. You had me at the dream whip photo lol. My mother used that all the time.
Good luck and prayers for your upcoming surgery and recovery. Take good care of you. ♥️
Thank you! ❤
l have my 1980s BC High School 'Home Ecomonics' cook book still. The "Cheese Souffle" in that book was a winner to my fuzzy memories recollection.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and praying the surgery goes great.
Thank you! ❤
I remember eating Dream Whip. I also, remember not caring for it. I was a little surprised to find that it's still available.
Thank you!! Glad to hear your sister is feeling better after her surgery...I'm hoping to feel that way after mine.
My mom has used Dream Whip for years and still does today! I remember her using it on puddings , deserts all throughout my childhood in the 60’s and 70’s 😋 I cannot believe it’s still sold today…
I haven't seen dream whip since like 1982 I'm surprised yah can get it awesome video
