Harihar Fort (PART-1) हरिहर किल्ला most Dangerous Hiking route in India

Harihar fort or Harshagad, is a fort located 40 km from Nashik City, 48 km from Igatpuri and 40 km from Ghoti in Nashik District of Maharashtra. It is an important fort in Nashik district, and was constructed to look upon the trade route through Gonda Ghat. It receives many visitors because of its peculiar rock-cut steps. You can start from Nashik to reach the base camp #Nirgunpada Village 40km) ( Though Climbing and descending is bit risky and one should have good confidence to take up this particular trek. There is a 60m steep climbing portion inclined at 70 to 80 degree which is the toughest and most sensational part of this fort that one have to cross to reach the top, and this is what makes the Harihar fort trekking the most adventurous and famous among the daredevil trekkers.
This was one of the forts in the possession of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate. In 1636, along with Harihar Fort, the Trimbak, Tringalvadi and a few other Poona (now Pune) Forts were surrendered by Shahaji Bhosale to the Mughal General Khan Zaman.
Later The fort was captured by Captain Briggs in 1818 along with 17 other forts.
The ascent cover 60m of rock-cut steps like a stone ladder placed at 60 degrees along the scarp. The steps are worn out in many places yet the holes on either side of the steps are conveniently cut for holding onto. After reaching the main entrance, the path takes a left traverse and again helical rock cut steps are to be climbed, which are more steep than the earlier. The steps finally end with a narrow entrance. At many places the steps are so narrow that only a single person can climb at a time
