- Tips, Tricks, & Tutorials: Special Feature
This video shows you how to play, note-for-note, the organ solo from "The Animals" recording of "House of the Rising Sun" - 1964. The song became the band's first and only #1 hit, and has become a timeless classic of the rock-era. Please enjoy and leave your renditions in the comments. Thanks and Happy Practicing!!
Here is the backing track I played over:

Dude we’ve got to hear a full song tutorial for this one! All these years later, this is a great video
I have a Hammond A100 organ that was my Grandfathers. I saw Animals in concert and the organ player "Red" told me he used an A100 for their music. It has the exact beautiful sound as on the recording. I have always wanted to play this solo and I want to thank you so very much for your tutorial. I will put my computer on the organ and follow along until I learn it. I took organ lessons as a kid but never learned the "good" stuff !!! Animals, Deep Purple etc. I just love the sound. Thanks again.
The Animals used a Vox V301J for most, if not all of their music. And it has a sound that is super hard to replicate which is a pain.
Great lesson, love how you walk through the notes and show them on screen!
Absolutely fantastic. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this lesson! I have some learning to do. I will check back when I have something solid. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Absolutely fantastic been looking for this type of leeon for a long time
thank you !!! BRavo!! I love this song and this part of the organ
Can’t wait to try this
Awesome. Thank you for the tutorial

That is so cool! - Thank you!
awesome video and awesome playing i love it
I'm a relatively newcomer to organ/ keyboard and have just seen your tutorial regarding the solo to The House Of The Rising Sun. Thank you very much for your splendid lesson. Needless to say that I have subscribed to your channel
I am freaking out cause I just found your channel and thanks for the backing tracks link. Not a person on the planet that does not know this song. Especially if they are as old as I am. Thank you so much for this tutorial and going slow and showing each note. Perfect for me. I got a Roland Fantom back in 2019 and last year they added a very realistic and very controllable tone wheel organ to all the presets. So learning this song is going to be amazing. Thank you so much. Looking forward to checking out all your other videos.
Thanks Mac. Means a lot. Look out for my next tutorial and good luck learning this one.
Fantastic. Just found this and it’s 2023 already
beautiful job!!! thanks!!!!
sick video man thanks
That was great 👍
Man, we need full organ tutorial, please! Your tutorial on organ part is the best and it would be nice if you'd make it complete. Other videos either explain it worse or play wrong things.
Yeah would love that too!
I'll put it on my list for sure. Next video is out in the series here ua-cam.com/video/eP7849d369A/v-deo.html

I’m 73 years old and rediscovered my love for keyboards thanks to you’re great rising sun tutorial.
I did want to ask your help on a left hand piece I saw on this song.
The name of the You Tube video is House of the Rising Sun by Albert.
If you have a chance to look at it I would appreciate your input on the chords being used.
Thanks again
Gary
im shocked how this only has 2k views. you my friend are fantastic, thank you
Wow! So flattering...please like, subscribe, and share around so I can get more eyeballs on it. Glad you found it fruitful.
Wow ... By far the best, clear and entertaining, keyboard tutorial, Iv'e watched on UA-cam! Have subscribed, will check out your other video's.
Welcome aboard! The next tutorial is on "Nothing from Nothing" by Billy Preston. just dropped. ua-cam.com/video/eP7849d369A/v-deo.html
Very informative, thank you. I'm 74, (rapidly closing in on 75,) so I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks.
Perfecto 👍
if you're learning whole song note there are lots of F7s in the rest of the song, not F majors on their own. (Alan Price throws in lots of E flats)
Great stuff! I wanna play like you (but never played keyboards and definitely can't sing)! However, just picked up a Korg Kross... so the journey begins!
Thanks
You are the best of the best. Peace to u ..,.
thanks
Heck yeah
Nice bro..
Спасибо!!!!!!!!!
Hello ! Thanks
Good 👍
Fine tutorial Gregjack, Don"t know why I learnt it in D , maybe the folkie version Bob Dylan, et al, but this sounds better. Hope you made it thru quarantine
Can you make more tutorials like this? I'm new at the synth thing, have a Yamaha MODX+ and it's a bit overwhelming. I appreciate the organ type, rotary speed, and playing tips. Love the 60s, 70s, Blues, and cocktail. I cannot boogie boogie though; not a pianist, so not interested in that. Easy to intermediate would be great. How about a Green Onions organ tutorial?
Thanks for the comment! There are already some great Green Onions tutorials out there. It's how I learned it. I think you'll find it elsewhere.
Would love to have one on Light my Fire. ;-)
That's great for the left hand, 'cause I'm using it to play bass! And singing., but out of Dm because of my vocal range. Thanks, though, great stuff.
COOL TUTORIAL. BRAVO. WHERE CAN I GET THE BACKING TRACK TO PRACTICE?
see link in description
how do you do the slides so well
Amazing tutorial! Quick question what specific keyboard are you using?
Yamaha CP4
Guy is just coughing during the "pandemic" and immediately ensures us "I swear I'm not dying"... 😂
What keyboard are you using? The Leslie sound is amazing
Do you have this written out on sheet music? I cannot find a version even close to what you just played in sheet music.
1:58, they were actually called "combo" organ , not "compact" my first keyboard was a Gem Combo organ, made in Itally.
11:51
this part reminds me of the polar express but in a different octave
Yes, but where's the sheet music?
:')
shades of the late Alan Price. Great job.
he's still alive friend, please don't say that again.
But original is with 2 hands!!
Pinch a loaf.
