An excellent contender, certainly. But I find, Metallic Madness Bad future (you know, the one w/the lyrics that go : "Sonic, dead or alive, is mine.") a better fit for the most dystopic one. The lyrics alone give that feel that you've lost and there's nothing you can do anymore except delay the inevitable. This one is more foreboding than outright dystopic. What I love most about this theme is that Chaos Angel is the ultimate, the final level of all sonic advance and like, this theme signifies it's importance as the capstone. This track, the Act 2 specifically, contrast the ENTIRE soundtrack of Act 2s. It's slow, eerie, cryptic and so on. Few other sonic themes even do this and none do this as a stage. It's so.. beautiful yet creepy

My favorite theme in the game is also the one that scared me the most as a kid lol, i had always the image of a giant walking in the background of the stage in mind because of the drums, an intense feeling of CHAOS!

I blame this game for a lot of my musical taste, it was incredible then, and now. It’s probably the most atmospheric I’ve heard sonic be, especially this particular cut of Chaos Angel, it’s Metroid level tone setting, the weight of the whole game is present in all its beauty and danger.

Not really. Act 3 gives off that final stretch feeling while Act 2 tells you still have more zone to cover.
