I had a rescue mixed Shepherd (where the Shepherd traits were dominant) my family had rescued and everything you've said is absolutely true. Training never ends. **You have to do the work.** I will say the thing I admire about Shepherds is that "an old dog can learn new tricks". We started dominance and obedience training in the middle of his life and it was received very well. If you put in the effort the results will come in.
From the experience I’ve had with adopted dogs all being 3+ years they all learned new things, maybe it has more to do with trusting too, like dogs that been through shit they praise when we take good care of them and just wants to do their best. The most loyal dog I had was one I got him at 5yo, scared to life of people specially men and with time he turned almost like a guard dog, no one could yell at me that he would barricade me with his body and on the street if someone had bad intentions he would change his posture, he always knew when it could be dangerous or when to relax around people 🥲 miss him to this day
I got a German Shepherd a year and a half ago. I got him from a very young couple who got him from a breeder and as much as I love him dearly I can honestly say that I regret it. He is 2yrs old now and he wasn't socialized so he is over the top reactive towards pretty much everything. He is potty trained but that is the only training he has. I've tried to give him basic training but I'm not dog trainer and it just isn't working at all. He also has more energy then I could have over imagined, I can't keep up with him in any way since I'm not a young guy anymore and I have recently been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I should have done my homework before I jumped into this but I didn't and I'm truly regretting it. To be honest....i don't know how to deal with him. He's also why overly protective of me. Meaning my wife can't even kiss me goodbye when she leaves for work, she can't get too close to me or he literally tries to seriously attack her. The same thing happens if friends come over....if they get too close to me or try to even shake my hand ect he just loses it and tries to attack them as well. Had a trainer work with him for a pretty short time because he bit him twice then he basically said he can't train him and said he was untrainable. I don't know what to do....I love him dearly but it's just getting worse as time goes by.
I got my first German Shepherd by accident. I wanted a dog to protect me when I was alone at home, walking or biking alone, etc. My boyfriend traveled a lot at the time. It wasn't in me to consider this breed. It was recommended that a German Shepherd would fit the bill. A friend of a friens was a trainer and he had just bought a 7 month puppy to resell/train. He came from a reputable breeder from Germany. I asked if I could try him out for the weekend, he said "yes, because then you'll buy him." That's exactly what happened. He bonded in 15 minutes and that's no exaggeration. The same person was his trainer, too. I automatically knew the important of good training. I'm now on my 4th and 5th German Shepherd. Great breed. My last trainer trained NAVY SEAL dogs. I've only had one Shepherd that difficult at first, but he came around and I never questioned his loyalty. He was also a great deterrent to those who could mean harm...they all were. .
That’s nice I’m here weighing my options. Your situation is very similar to mine, I’m living alone and want a guard dog but I am a small dog fan (shitzu poodles) ... idk if I’ll be in love with the GSD
@@jhonelefairman3140 if you haven’t gotten one by now, you’ll love them. I’ve been one to be nervous around big dogs. Adopted a 9 month old puppy..fell in love after meeting him. Has the sweetest eyes and sweetest demeanor. Follows me everywhere!
I have been training my current German Shepherd for 10 years so far. He loves to explore and learn new things. Also loves to go for car rides...and kids...
Very well explained! Its basicially like learning a musical instrument: “repetition is the mother of succes”..people see the concert and it all looks so “easy” at the moment, however they dont see the hours of - blood, sweat and tears, nor the disciplined practising (training for Lucy) for years to make it look that “easy”.. You can see Lucy is so well trained: Training doesnt stop after an 8hr working day: there is a 24/7 love, care, devotion in this.. Lucy’s character at itself has a natural playfulness, curiosity and drive to serve..she is just a the right place there with you!❤️😊👍🏼 ps. i bet you cut out all the cuddle moments in between the scenes..😂🤣😜
Hey I love this comment and thank you. You are so right and thats a great way to look at it. I have to film more cuddle times haha. Every night on the bed is cuddle stations watching net-flix
i've owned gsd's before but the biggest training lesson was learned from my gsd mix who passed at 5 years old. i got her later on in her life and her previous owner was someone who should not own dogs. before i knew about her issues, the original deal was that i would take her while her owner found a new place. as the months went by and he failed to pay for her spay, hernia surgery, etc., as he promised and i began to notice how poorly she was doing mentally, i contacted him and said i would be keeping her. he didn't even argue or sound sad. she knew how to sit, lay down, and was house broken but no recall training or socialization whatsoever. absolutely none. she was fearful and on her way to being aggressive. i worked really hard with her to correct her previous owner's failures and the first year was insanely rough financially and mentally... i often wondered what i got myself in to but i kept at it and her and i put a lot of time in. whole weekends were spent at the training facility just hanging out and having fun while training. obviously that isn't necessary for everyone but we had the opportunity to do it so we did. she got to the point where she wasn't a nervous wreck on a walk and became such a happy and loyal dog. we eventually stopped going to the training facility but the training didn't stop. i could always see remnants of the issues she had but we worked on it every day. put the work in from the get go. if you find that you can't, find someone who can.
Thanks again and have a wonderful video I know it’s gonna be a lot of work when I get my puppy next month but I’m gonna start little by little and praising her
I just got a husky mix with German shepherd and I'm trying to do the best, so it can be a good family dog . Thank you for putting videos like this it really help.
Great video! I hope it prevents tragic misplacement of GSD's. People need to know what a commitment a GSD is, forever. Had our amazing boy for 13 amazing years. My biggest piece of advice for those considering a GSD....make sure your pup stays with mom/litter until 8-10 weeks old. Hint: Pups whelped outside, naturally prefer to go to the bathroom outside.
Very good advice, you have got your self one hell of o good girl. I have got another little tip. To always finish your training/playing sessions in a good mood and on good terms, never get cranky while working with your best mate. Love your tips, advice and clips.
I rescued my boy, Jax, last October. He had been surrendered twice before. The last time being a middle of the night drop off which the shelter informed me was never a good thing. What had he done? No answers. Msny attempts to contact the last owner (via info on his micro chip) for any helpful info went unanswered. Jax is an absolutely gorgeous 90lb 2 1/2 year old (vets guess) mahogany and tan male. He's a responsive, to most commands - sit, stay, lie down, stay, come, etc...."most of the time". That's all wonderful but, he literally has a "PREY DRIVE FROM HELL". Squirrels, stray cats turn him into a beast from hell and any commands or corrections (prong collar, etc) are totally ignored once he's switched on. He's oblivious to corrective collars which have zero effect once he's in prey mode. Ive purchased a Dogtra E Collar but don't plan to use it until i fully understand how to use it properly. He's met a variett of other dogs and has gotten along fine except that he's been fence aggressive with a couple neighbor dogs? I'll also add that i also have a loving, elderly, 16 year old cat that i keep separated by various door wire barriers. Thankfully Jax hasn't shown aggression toward the cat since the first few days. They both sleep in the bedroom with me at night and can see each other but remain separated by barriers. Im just afraid to allow contact for fear of what could happen. My guess after studying body types, size, movement, body lines head to tail, etc is that Jax is West German Showline. Other than being male he looks and moves very much like your dog. Hard to explain but im determined to be this great dog's last stop no matter what happens. Some would say im being unfair to my elderly cat who's been with me 16 years. Perhaps i sm? The cat sleeps in my arms and has full tin of the house at night as Jax is confined behind a barrier by the head of my bed. During the day the cat has the full bedroom with a window separated by the barrier from the rest of the house. Btw, I'm 78 years old so this young GSD is definirly keeping me active. He has a big, fenced in back yard with lots of running room -70 yards+ and plenty of squirrels. Thanks for letting me describe my situation. Any helpful suggestions or comments id love to hear.😅❤
I adopted Zoya at 5 years old and she has Perianal Fistual, and she was dog agressive. She is now 7 years old and she is still in training. She can now go into dog park and socialize now. Zoya is black and she is scary looking but is a sweet girl. Having a GSD every day is a learning day for you as well as your dog.
Great info! German Shepherds are alot of work, however they are the best dogs you can have if you respect the breed and understand the work that's required
The one thing that kept ringing in my mind till the end of the video was that Lucy could be an intimidating dog. 😊😊😊😊 I try to imagine how but cannot 😁😁😁 She is nothing but pure love. Just look at her playing with those kids in the park ❤❤❤❤
haha I know hey. We once had a woman who was terrified of her. Crazy hey. But Lucy is the sweetest German Shepherd getting around. Thanks for your lovely comment 😊
Our gsd is 11wks, just bought some clickers & training treats. He's still very small as he was the runt of the litter. Due his 2nd injection next week then 2 weeks wait to take him out. Can't wait to socialise him with other dogs!
Training a German Sheppard is not optional, and never stops. Just building trust and confidence takes a lot of work. In return you get a fantastic partner. And I do praise responsible owners that understands this and showcases good behavior like you do, because there is a lot of stigma, and they can be very protective. Training, training and then some more training.
Love your show. She is beautiful. German shepherd are naturally smart, easy to train, especially start training at a young age. I love my black german shepherd and so everyone that came across. Boys are a bit harder head though. But with time and effort training it become my best friend for life. Good video. I look forward to see your next video every time.
I have meet a lot of people that thinks training is a fast thing that is over in a week or two. I have been a dog trainer since 2003 and I have had it where my personal dogs are always being trained. The dogs training never stops. Yes people my pay a dog trainer like me but we always tell them if you don't continue training and working with your dog they will forget it just stop doing it. Lucy is a very pretty dog. I adopted my latest german shepherd. He is a very loving one. Remember people if you don't want a puppy try to look into adopting an older one that needs a new home.
Everyone can have a German Shepherd if excersised and mentally trained properly. My rescue needs 3h a day to be happy to lose her energy. She is 7yrs old and is awesome.
Great video Will. German shepherds are part of the herding group of dogs and have a natural protective instinct to protect their pack which includes other dogs living at their home and all humans in her family. German shepherds need a lot of exercise both physical and mental so they don't do naughty things while you are not home. I have a female German shepherd the same age as Lucy she is a rescue dog. But as the covid 19 restrictions are lifted she will be off to obedience training. I vary her walks so she is exposed to people, school kids, trucks ,buses and cars as well as different sounds of nature as all the birds chirp in their own voices. She has walked on grass, the road, footpaths and gravel as well as dirt and sandy beaches. Owning a German shepherd like all dogs the training never ends if you are seeking a good behaved and well balanced dog. Socializing is very important but not all dogs like to be around other dogs or people, just their immediate family. Dogs are like people and dont have to like everybody. Today I'm taking Rosie my German shepherd to doggie daycare to see if I can start her socializing with other dogs with trained professional staff who will assess her and help her on this path. I dont know her past but she deserves the right to have doggie friends and as her new owner this is what I hope will be achieved at doggie day care.
She went great met two dogs and became use to them in the same area as her and calmed down. Definitely on protect daddy duty though but this will change as I blocked her when a dog got a bit close and told her it's all good. She is booked in now every Tuesday and Friday for an hour session to begin with.
What a well put together video. After losing both of my GSD'S this year, I am looking for my 5th GSD. One was 13 and the other was 4. They are such wonderful animals. It is the only breed I will have, although I love all dogs. It has been a very hard year. Constant training is a must with this breed but the rewards are endless.
Hi Lucy greatings from India . My girl Sasha is 3 years old now and is still in the learning process . Only thing is she doesn't like to mingle with other dogs , yes she will say a little hello and that's it . We go to the park and I'm trying to socialize her . She's a very loving happy and cleaver girl , she picks up very fast . I love your videos thank you for sharing your experience and training with us . Only thing is how can I stop Sasha from pulling on the leash when going to the park or on the road . Thank you .
I love how amazingly you have raised Lucy and I love watching your videos. I just brought home a GSD pup too! Have a long journey ahead. Could you give some tips on how to stop puppy biting? I would really appreciate if you made a video on how to start training your pup. Cheers!
You have made by far the best video I've seen - and I've watched many. Thank you. The one attribute of a shepherd that I haven't seen anywhere is the enormous emotional bond they have with loving owners. Also how tricky they can be. : ) My family had one for 14 years. I made sure he had a comfortable place to sleep (he always loved his crate - after a couple of weeks the door was never closed.) My one rule was he wasn't allowed on the furniture because of the shedding and the fact that he loved mud. We would leave the house and come home to find him pretending to be asleep in the corner of the room but on the sofa would be the perfect outline of his body. He honestly believed he had fooled us! I so want another shepherd but am a bit nervous as I am a widow now and older. Do you think I need the strength of my youth to train another one?
Hey Maxine, thank you for your lovely comment. We both know that having another GSD would be amazing for you. Maybe be getting one with less prey drive could be a great option for you, just so it is not bouncing off the walls haha. Or maybe adopting a GSD past puppy stage. There are so many options for you. ☺
Hi! I'm going to be getting my 1st GSD in a few months and I had a couple questions. First, when you socialize do you let the dog interact with everyone or train her to focus mainly on you and not get distracted? I've heard both so I'm not sure how to go about it. Also how do you train her to focus on you so intently? It's like nothing else in the world matters to her except you which has to feel amazing! How do I train my future Gsd to focus on me? Thanks!
Hey April, we socialised Lucy from the day we got her. Other dogs of all shapes and sizes as well as kids of all ages. This to me was really important as Lucy is always out and about with us. Lucy has a good level of prey drive for a family dog so that helps with training because she wants to work. I invested into a great trainer who showed me some stuff and I applied it every day and still do. Training your dog is like going to the gym. What you put in, is what you get out. Thanks for the great question. I'm going to do a video on socialisation soon 😊
We have two German Shepherds 1 is a working German shepherds in the armed forces, then we have one as a family pet. We dog train them everyday best dogs ever also for a family pet. I recommend a German Shepherd to anybody that wants a family dog
Thats amazing having a German Shepherd who is trained / in the military. That would be next level I would imagine haha. They are the best family dogs ever hey.
This was a great video most people don’t realize that these GSD need to be worked and excersied everyday I have a 3 yr GSD and you need a trainer. Keep up the good work Lucy
I am hoping to buy a GSD in 2 years and have been binge-watching all training/GSD related content for the past 2 months (never too early to prepare)! I aspire to reach Lucy's level of obedience with my future floofer. I'm curious whether dedicating 4 months would be enough to training would be enough (for basics). There's a small window when I graduate from college and transition to the workforce, and I want to use that time to own a GSD puppy. Of course, it won't be the only time I train, as I want to take advanced obedience classes in the future as well. However, after 4 months, I can only spend 1 hour daily to walk/train, with the weekends free to focus more on the pup. (And yes, there will be someone at home all the time to care for the pup, just not me). I would greatly appreciate any opinions/advice!
Hey Wendy, well your on the right path and we are really impressed with your research so far. It's so normal to be busy and have a German Shepherd. It's just about the quality of time and effort you put into these guys. My wife and I are very busy people and run two business, but we make time for Lucy also as she's a huge part of our lives. I think you will be fine. The trick is learning and preparing. I think you will do well. 😊
Lucy is amazing and you both are inspiring to say the least! I am now a proud GSD owner. Her name is Stella and 9 wks old! I have a young daughter and have been including her with our training as she is next in charge. I love all your advice and am curious how you trained Lucy to come to you with her head up on your waist while backing up?? Is that part of the Heel training?? 2 weeks in and Stella knows her name, recall with no distraction, sit, and crate trained.
I've always wanted a GSP, but I've never owned a dog before and I'm worried I won't be able to offer the pup everything it needs (as in training, because I've never trained a dog. I've only ever owned a cat). Is the GSP a bad first-dog? I'd love to put in the work and hours to teach and train, but I'm scared that I won't have the knowledge or skills for it... Would these trainings be possible hiring a dog trainer?
hi zak I hope you are all well yes I agree with you about the training I can see how much you put in to the raining I think german shpereds actualy want to be trained it makes life for us hoomans and the dog please more captions from lucy thank you for a very good vlog
Very well explained!! Thank you so much for that! I've definitely have the time and will for a dog like that, but the thing that keeps me back is my weight. I'm kinda thin. Do you believe that if I start the continuous training from day 1 I get the puppy, I will have a problem later? Like with the walk and the pulling maybe Thank you again for your amazing videos and kisses to Lucy! (Sorry for my English, greetings from Greece💓)
BLESSINGS FOREVER for TEACHING AND TO SWEETHEART LUCY AND ALL ANIMAL LOVERS AND OTHER HELPLESS ANIMALS WAITING TO BE SAVED!!!! XOXOXO 💖💖💖🐕🐕🐕🐕🐕🐈🐈🐈🐈🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I really want to get a German shepherd and I understand how much work it takes, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it? Any tips, like what order training should be done in, and how to reward them?
I think this advise is for any potential dog owner. I have a 10 month old golden retriever male and to train them is a lot of work! Having a golden there’s the idea that oh they’re so easy to train, but I don’t see that. It takes work! Yes they’re smart but often times he will outsmart me to get his way! It takes a lot of dedication, time and work to train him. I want him to be trustworthy in all situations to be able to take him places without worry. Training is also important for small breeds bc often times you see the training neglected in small breeds. But it’s still necessary in my opinion! They can still do damage if untrained regardless of how small. Just my two cents! Are German Shepherd kid friendly? Always been a bit intimidated by the breed.
Very good video. I have American showlines and West German showlines and crosses of the two. All this is good advice. It is great to rescue dogs, but if you want to have a higher chance of success be willing to put down a few dollars for a good one. You can do wonders with a rescue dog. My first one was rescued and from Czech lines, and she was a great dog. But the level of chill that these show line dogs have is way more useful for a pet.
Hey thanks for the great comment. I'd love a Czech line one day they are amazing. Your a very experienced gsd handler and yes the showlines are great for pets. Do you have a preference between showlines?
I live in Florida where we have no parks like you have to take Lucy to. We tried to take her to a dog park and a very irresponsible owner came in with his male pitbull that was not neutered. His dog was just interested in mating with a female. He came after my Grace and he started to attack her, so I strepped in between. Grace is my baby and helping my walk this journey of the loss of my only child! I was not allowing a pitbull to attack her. I would die for her! It was a bad experience and I got bit by the pitbull. The owner did nothing! Calling the police did nothing. You have to call animal control that is 30 miles away. No more dog parks for us! It's been difficult to get our Grace socialized here. We have taken her to pet stores and started to take her to restaurants that allow dogs in their outside patio areas but then the whole global pandemic hit and we haven't been anywhere. I have no family left here in Florida, as I lost my son and my mom in 2016, so no one comes to the house. We have a shih-tzu mix that she is used to playing with. I'm more worried about her socialization around children and adults. I so wish we had parks like where I see you with Lucy! She's a beauty! Do you have any suggestions for us for Grace?
Hey Elamine, Firstly Im really sorry to hear about your family and your pup getting attacked by a Pit bull. There is an incompetent owners everywhere that shouldn't own dogs. I have an idea that might work. Do you have a instagram account for your pup or a personal one? That is a great way to connect with other German Shepherd owners on make friendships online and to meet like minded GSD lovers like you. You will be surprised how many could be in your area. Here in Sydney we meet up all the time to let the pups play. Most people as well are experienced owners and can spot a problem before it happens. Maybe you could get in contact with a local group for socialisation?
Hey thank you so much. To be honest Lucy doesn't bark much for a German Shepherd. She is a really quiet dog. But she is happy to bark on command. I recommend not teaching a dog to bark on command if they are barkers
Ηallo buddy!Nice content as always!I have a question for you...Do you think an experienced trainer is required for a gsd to evolve all skills at the best level possible?Or my will to train him/her will be enough to get to a nice communication level?
Hey great question. I think as long as you're willing to learn and put the time and effort in, you can get a gsd. I know lots of first time owners who are amazing gsd handlers. You will do great, just teach your self, use youtube, and get a trainer to help you
The thing is people think they gonna be a couch dog. A German Shepherd and dalmatians they pull or energy. They love to stay active. I miss my dalmatian his name was Reesie he has allot of energy we played a lot so now. This is ever brought me to your channel I got a German shepherd puppy I was wondering will she be as energetic full of energy as Reesie was got my answer for sure. We walked allot of miles worked on a lot of things he’ll talk to you run sideways and different things playing. My puppy Jinny has allot of energy she loves too play and he training her getting her use to people start then our younger the better like what you said in this video.
@@Lucythegermanshepherd We have a 8 year old gsd rescue 7 years ago rescued and I only can say this. Normally you train the dog, now its the dog trains you.
I think a german sheperd is for my family lol we have had 2 Soda who died when I was 4 :( and now we have Zena who is 5 to bring the joy back to our family! We have actully had Zena for a while now I think about it...
People don’t know that German shepherds are very hard to own and train to act like a well behaved well mannered house pet whether they look like it or not they also require a lot more than training expensive food, hip and joint medication, weekly brushing, and they also need 2 to 4 HOURS of exercise a day and there’s also more...a lot of German shepherds also have severe mental problems that can only be curved with training like aggression, separation anxiety, and just plain anxiety 😬 so those are just a few reasons to not get a German Shepherd unless you do ALOT of research and know a good trainer
Yup. People can be so damn lazy they don't want to put in the work. Exact same idea with fitness and nutrition, or anything worth having, IMO. Generally, no such thing as a quick fix. All they see is the end product and don't really understand the process/time/commitment/etc. Good on ya mate (I'm from the US, am I allowed to say "mate"?? 😂). I'm really happy to see someone being honest about this. I can only imagine how many of these pups end up in shelters because their owners didn't take the time and put in the work, and they blame it on the pup, like it's the dog's fault. Keep it coming buddy, I'm thinking of getting a GSD as my next doggo.
My niece and me just picked up a mother and 2 daughters (german shepherds) walking, thirsty and hungry filled with fleas and ticks 😢 1of the puppies is in the early stages of mange 💔 we brought them home and fed them gave them water and a safe comfortable place to sleep I just couldn't leave them looks like someone just left them on the road because they have flea collars on I don't understand how people can be so cruel and inhumane I just can't understand it.
@@Lucythegermanshepherd Thank you, I don't feel like it's enough, I want to do more to help them but I don't know what to do or where to go for help😢 I'm not letting them go I have to get them healthy ,. This is such a painful sight 😢
After seeing this video and doing plenty of research I am 80% sure in owning a lil german shepherd puppy. Of course I will keep doing research on this breed.
I have 5 months old German Shepherd and I am 75 years old woman, living alone and unfortunately I can’t do trying she is giving me hard time .I don’t know how I am going to do with her.
I had two female "GSD" from about '97-'11. Best dogs I could ever have asked for! They were both good with ppl and great with children. Both of them saved my life on a couple different situations. Too much to try to explain here, but if I'm ever in a position to get another mutt, it will be a female shepherd! Non-negotiable! Unfortunately, cancer took both of them.
You should share some training videos to help people who already have german shepherd and people who want to get some to show them the work it takes to have one.
ZACH , HOW TALL ARE YOU ? I WISH I SAW YOUR VIDEO WITH LUCY WHEN I WAS IN MY 20’s , I AM NOW IN MY 80’s , ITS IMPOSSIBLE FOR ME TO DO WHAT YOU DO WITH LUCY .
VERY USEFUL VIDEO! BLESSINGS! We should educate people,( like you did great job ) before they get a GSD or any dog ! This will avoid many heartbreaking stories for animals end up in the KILLING SHELTERS or other situations! I ALWAYS have RESCUE ANIMALS but most animals in SHELTERS they are there cause people FAIL THEM !!! Because like you said they think they buy from the shelf cute puppy who will do right away everything like on video! AGREE MILLION TIMES with the teaching people...Before!!!! I would suggest also CESAR MILLAN videos for all who want to learn! First We have to learn !!!! I love any ANIMALS DEARLY and I like to learn to always about them and PLEASE if you can CONSIDER RESCUE GSD or other non pure breed! All they LOVE YOU UNCONDITIONALLY AND ABLE TO LEARN SAME IN THE RIGHT LOVING UNDERSTANDING PATIENT FAMILY!!! Don't BUY A PET ONLY CAUSE SPARE MOMENT DECISION OR CAUSE THEY CUTE OR OTHER REASON! THAT IS COMMITMENT AND RESPONSIBILITY AND LOVE! DON'T CONTRIBUTE TO.....KILLING HELPLESS ANIMALS CAUSE PEOPLE FAIL THEM FOR DIFFERENT REASONS!!!!
Actually there's only two breeds that I know of that are considered puppies until they're two years old and that's German Shepherds and pit bulls all of the greens are only considered puppies until they're one year old then they're adults

He was also a great deterrent to those who could mean harm...they all were.
.
Hey thanks so much for sharing that. You have acquired a world of knowledge through your experience.
Pure dedication and LOVE ... AWESOME & INSPIRING !!!
Thanks again and have a wonderful video I know it’s gonna be a lot of work when I get my puppy next month but I’m gonna start little by little and praising her
It takes a lot of work. Lucy is such a good girl and she is so beautiful! I love her!! Thank you for sharing Lucy with us!! ❤💜❤💜
So great you are sharing this info. Some people may not realize that they are actually a lot of work. And we don't want these dogs to suffer. 💚
Hey thats so true. Hard work but worth the work
I just got a husky mix with German shepherd and I'm trying to do the best, so it can be a good family dog . Thank you for putting videos like this it really help.
Long video but I liked the information way better than a certain other Shepherd you tuber. Way way better here
haha thanks boys. The take over has commenced
Hey thanks heaps and yes very good tip
Very well explained and no rambling on like other videos I’ve watched. Thank you, very helpful 😊
Also I really respect the effort you put into replying to every single comment on your videos.
Thanks for the feed back. I have been working on communication skills to get better at videos. 😊
Beautiful day in the park. Thank you for sharing.
Hey sounds like you are doing an amazing job. And yes I agree with you 100%. Even Lucy is learning new stuff every day.
You have a very good attitude. But what you say is true for every dog. Every dog needs care, attention, work and love ♥️ 🖐️
So what you are saying is actually “no, but actually yes”
Depends what way you look at it. But no if you don't put in the work.
Great info! German Shepherds are alot of work, however they are the best dogs you can have if you respect the breed and understand the work that's required
haha hey bro you nailed it. Hey we have to get a shot of these two at the harbour bridge
This is really gonna help me choose what German Shepherd to get
Well explained! good job
Thanks heaps Loki.
Can't wait to socialise him with other dogs!
woo hoo thats amazing well done. Kicking goals already. Great job guys
@@Lucythegermanshepherd thank you 😊 big ❤ love to Lucy x
Training a German Sheppard is not optional, and never stops. Just building trust and confidence takes a lot of work. In return you get a fantastic partner. And I do praise responsible owners that understands this and showcases good behavior like you do, because there is a lot of stigma, and they can be very protective. Training, training and then some more training.
She’s such a beautiful and sweet girl. 🥰♥️🤗
Best dog that ever owned me 😊
Love your show. She is beautiful. German shepherd are naturally smart, easy to train, especially start training at a young age. I love my black german shepherd and so everyone that came across. Boys are a bit harder head though. But with time and effort training it become my best friend for life. Good video. I look forward to see your next video every time.
Hey thanks so much for tuning in, really appreciate it.
Great looking pup!
Everyone can have a German Shepherd if excersised and mentally trained properly. My rescue needs 3h a day to be happy to lose her energy. She is 7yrs old and is awesome.
haha thats amazing well done
This is such a great video!🇺🇸🐾🐾
Hey Peter thanks heaps for your great comment. Your so knowledgeable. You have to let us know how Rosie went today 😊
I'm sorry you lost both of your dogs in one year.
@@vangu2918 Thank you. Its been tough. But I will be getting a puppy soon, just looking now.
Cheers!
Thank you so much! That is amazing you have a new pup. They can be little land sharks hey haha. Yes we will do a video on this topic. Stay tuned
Beautiful dog, credit to you and the breed!!
Ur vids make me so happy 🙂
Thank you so much
Lucy THE MOST BEAUTIFUL DOG IN THE WORLD.IE BEAUTY AND BRAIN.
Yay so early also Lucy is sooooooo cute!!
Aww your the best thank you
@@Lucythegermanshepherd thank you! I look forward to the video!
WHERE CAN I BUY LUCY POSING THIS PICTURE ?
YOUR VIDEO IS EXCELLENT, FUN TO WATCH , I AM PLANNING TO GET A FEMALE GSD,AFTER MY RESEARCH . YOU ARE AN EXCELLENT DAD FOR LUCY. DO YOU HAVE A BOOK ?
Please is Lucy a Showline or a working line GSD?
Hey thank you Brian.
Very well explained!! Thank you so much for that! I've definitely have the time and will for a dog like that, but the thing that keeps me back is my weight. I'm kinda thin. Do you believe that if I start the continuous training from day 1 I get the puppy, I will have a problem later? Like with the walk and the pulling maybe
Thank you again for your amazing videos and kisses to Lucy! (Sorry for my English, greetings from Greece💓)
Hey thanks heaps. No you will be fine as long as you train them. ☺

I really want to get a German shepherd and I understand how much work it takes, but I'm not sure how to go about doing it? Any tips, like what order training should be done in, and how to reward them?
Great video very informative but kinda sucks to deter people from getting a German shepherd
I agree, I have the same dog.
We do a little something different everyday to make it fun for the German Shepherd and my better half and me
Thats so awesome.
I have a gsd and hes perfect
Thats amazing.
I love Lucy so much ❤️❤️
Thanks for coming Dennis

Lucy Lane the Queen of Balmain I love Lucy she’s so cute I wish she was my dog because I want to cuddle with her 😊
Are you trying to say that dogs don't come preprogrammned? Sounds like a faulty product to me.
Joking of course. Dogs are such incredible beings.
Lucy is wonderful ... very polite, congratulations. did you have problems because she barked a lot? if yes, how did you solve it???
You will do great, just teach your self, use youtube, and get a trainer to help you
@@Lucythegermanshepherd Thanks mate ! Really appreciate it!Keep the great work!

Today is July 10 2022, this video is 2 yrs ago , I am dying wanting to know where is LUCY ,DAD , MOM NOW??
People don’t know that German shepherds are very hard to own and train to act like a well behaved well mannered house pet whether they look like it or not they also require a lot more than training expensive food, hip and joint medication, weekly brushing, and they also need 2 to 4 HOURS of exercise a day and there’s also more...a lot of German shepherds also have severe mental problems that can only be curved with training like aggression, separation anxiety, and just plain anxiety 😬 so those are just a few reasons to not get a German Shepherd unless you do ALOT of research and know a good trainer
yes they need a bit of work thats for sure
Lucy is just so beautiful. She can be a contestant in the miss UNIVERSE HAAAA
Lucy is so beautiful
Thank you so much
My niece and me just picked up a mother and 2 daughters (german shepherds) walking, thirsty and hungry filled with fleas and ticks 😢 1of the puppies is in the early stages of mange 💔 we brought them home and fed them gave them water and a safe comfortable place to sleep I just couldn't leave them looks like someone just left them on the road because they have flea collars on I don't understand how people can be so cruel and inhumane I just can't understand it.

Hey I will do a video on this to help give you some answers
I had two female "GSD" from about '97-'11. Best dogs I could ever have asked for! They were both good with ppl and great with children. Both of them saved my life on a couple different situations. Too much to try to explain here, but if I'm ever in a position to get another mutt, it will be a female shepherd! Non-negotiable! Unfortunately, cancer took both of them.
That's a good looking girl...Thanx for sharing.
One time I called my dog “Max!” At a dog park, And all the dogs came.
Can you do a training video.
Sure we can look at that
I NOW GOT ALL THE TIME TO TRAIN A GSD , SINCE I AM RETIRED BUT I NO LONGER HAVE THE STAMINA TO DO WHAT YOUDID WITH LUCY .
