My parents bungalow in key st was built by Wraights in 1931, still have the plans. Also both sewer covers had the Wraights name on them.

After Wraights closed they built a shopping area that featured one of the first video libraries. I used to go there for my VHS films. I used it until I had a house burglary and the VCR was stolen. When. I went to get a new one at Curry’s on the corner of the Forum opposite Seeboard the guy in Curry’s showed me a brand new machine that he told me was the best VCR in the shop. How proud I was stepping out onto the street with my new Betamax!!!!! All true, I promise. ‘Are you laughing, Muttley?’

A couple of questions, if that's in order : Did Wraights build/develop the Hollybank Hill yard or did it have a previous history as a builder's yard ? Did they build Barrow Grove primary school (my memory as a pupil in its first year is that they did but can find no evidence) ? Excellent piece.

I can partially answer but welcome anyone else's input. Wraight's yard was created in the garden of the old house - the Limes, (former home of W.J.Parrett) so yes they did develop it. Obviously after they folded, it was left to Wiltshires to build on the site - "Gilbert House" - "Economic House" it was called at one point I think. Not sure about Barrow Grove

Sue Dadson believes that two of the joiners in the group photo are her husband's uncles, Len and Larry Dadson

I knew Mickey Dadson. My dad was on the committee of Newington Working Men’s Club in the 1970s and Mick often was in there. In those days he always reminded me of Illia Kurriarkin from The Man From UNCLE. He could have been David McCallum’s stunt double for sure. A nice guy. Quiet and always polite. Newington Working Men’s Club. Oh the stories from there.
