- 'We have the most comprehensive free trade deal with the EU in the world. No other country has that.'
Business and Trade Secretary Kemi Badenoch insists to LBC that the UK is better off than thought to be since Brexit. Badenoch also reveals that she made up her mind about Brexit 'on the spot at the ballot box' and wasn't sure which way she would be voting beforehand.

The EU did not RAISE BARRIERS, they applied rules that we helped formulate while we were part of it😔😔😔.
Yes. Absolutely. The ease with which these falsehoods slip out of her mouth is astounding. Like all proficient liars, she probably believes what she says as she says it. That looks convincing. Yet the clear truth is simply that the EU applies the same rules to us as to all third countries. Very simple. Very obvious.
So true. Gaslighting!
SPS checks are supposed to be based on scientific risk, not membership of a customs union or a free trade agreement like the EEA (single market). The EU’s SPS checks have been grossly disproportionate and punitive.
@@aleph8888but it's not just sps checks though is it? I used to buy paints from a brilliant shop in Nottingham it used to cost me 40 euro and 5 euro shipping, now it costs 40 euro, 15 euro import tax and 12 euro 3rd country shipping, so what has that got to do with sps?

We had a free trade agreement with our closest neighbours when we were in the EU. Goods, finance and services flowed frictionlessly between countries. Leaving the EU meant our leverage for trade deals was severely diminished. We will never see any benefit to Brexit.
Regulatory autonomy where previously EU law had primacy? Enhanced discretion over EU migration? A more robust opt out from further EU federalism without direct public consultation? @@TheOutsider840No, you rate delivery by using facts about the impacts of said delivery.
@TheOutsider840 It hasn't quite worked out like that though has it? It seems like there is less discretion on immigration as the Tories have had to replace workers from EU nations with those from the rest of the world. “The leaving was talked about, rather than how we would leave”. True, in a strict reading of the referendum question put to us, but she then proceeds to say “when we said we were leaving the EU, leaving the Single Market was always part of that, leaving the Customs Union”, which implies we’d all signed up to a particular “how” as well as the “what”. Odd, given the likes of Boris and Daniel Hannan assuring everyone at the time of the referendum that nobody was talking about leaving the Single Market.

The very thought of Badenoch in a swimsuit is too horrible to contemplate !
yes the EU did put in place trade barriers with the UK as the UK became a 3rd country and changed standards which required having trade barriers to perform checks.
but this is purely because WE left the EU.
now we didn't apply checks as we had open borders and didn't carry out any checks or just spot checks.
the ECHR protects our rights from the government, if the government decides to allow raw sewage in your drinking water you can take them to court under the ECHR, if we leave the ECHR they could then do that and you would have no recourse.
Why isn't he openly laughing in her face...spineless, utter incompetent journalism
Unicorns are cheaper now, though. I bought 3 from Argentina, and they were much cheaper than the ones I used to buy from France. And I can now buy cheese from Malaysia for only 4 times the price I paid for it from Germany! Result. AND my shoes and clothes are VAT free! I think.
OMG So our Trade Minister hasn't heard of WTO rules. She should do, as the UK and every country in the EU are WTO members. Within the WTO there rules under the GATT Treaty that define who and what are Third Countries, and their rights and responsibilities in trade deals. These are formal rules, and they are not discretionary. And our Trade Agreements with the EU has to comply with those formal rules. As Kemi worked in Compliance in the Financial Sector, she should be aware of those international rules. But her answer stating "the EU raised trade barriers against us" doesn't fit the facts. Perhaps she needs to brush up on WTO rules, because that answer doesn't fit the facts.
I disagree and the facts uphold my view.
What fruits? Please explain....

That’s because the EU is a market of $17trillion and we are a market of $2.8trillion
We just don’t have the leverage
If you didn't know the reality on the ground, listening to her you'd think UK is doing brilliantly.
The Brexit ringleaders said we’d stay in the market - “like Norway”:
-Daniel Hannan: "Absolutely nobody is talking about threatening our place in the single market"
-Boris Johnson "we think that leaving the Single Market would weaken our economy and hurt jobs, trade and investment".
-Arron Banks: "Increasingly, the Norway option looks the best for the UK"
-Owen Paterson: "Only a madman would actually leave the market"
-Boris Johnson: “There's no plan for no deal, because we're going to get a great deal"
-Chris Grayling: "There's a free trade zone from Iceland to the Russian border and Britain will still be part of it after we vote leave"
-Matthew Elliot: "There is no question about it, Britain will still have access to the single market after we vote leave"
-Nigel Farage: "Wouldn’t it be terrible if we were like Norway and Switzerland - they’re rich, they’re happy, they’re self governing”
-Daniel Hannan: "Norway, Switzerland, all of these countries have complete free trade with the EU, and by the way, I can't help noticing that they're doing pretty well".
