Arabian Nights - Reprise #1 - Howard Ashman Demo

- Here is the demo to the first reprise of "Arabian Nights," a song from Howard Ashman's original treatment to ALADDIN.
In the original treatment, the narrator -- The Genie of the Ring, a character cut from the final film -- would appear from time to time to comment on and explain various points of the story, a theater device Howard and Alan had previously used in LITTLE SHOP. When ALADDIN went back into production, this aspect of the story was cut.
In this first reprise, the character that would later become Jafar is introduced. Being described as "charming and slick, but unspeakably sick," you get the best glimpse of his character with the line "this despicable parasite."
Fun.

♫ He was charming and slick ♫
♫ But unspeakably sick ♫
♫ This despicable parasite ♫
♫ What a villain, boo hiss! ♫
♫ Further proof, dears, that this ♫
♫ Is another Arabian night ♫ - Розваги
Howard Ashman is a genius. I recently watched the Disney documentary about him. What more could have been created, if he had more time.
Oh,Wow. I Did't Think That Version Of The Song Even Got A Recording,Much Less Would Be On UA-cam.
This song already has so many variants, neat to hear another.
thanks for these Arabian Nights reprises you have posted!
So I guess that the Sultan's name must be Hamed.
and depending how you interpret an episode of the show, his last name is Bobolonius. Though it might make more sense the other way around.
Thank you very much!!
It helps that Amanda McQuaid enjoyed the Disney renaissance movies
so basically The Gospel Truth II.
wow
So many reprises in original
The idea was that the Peddler would be like Alan-a-Dale in Robin Hood. At certain points, he would reappear to continue narrating the story.
Jon Musker and Ron Clements would later use this deleted concept for Hercules.
Anybody came here from Yesterworld?
I have.
