I had forgotten all about the Derwent Tower until you wrote about it - I shall have a look at my photos as it must be there somewhere. It is rather strange to think that something like that could have been built in this location given that the ground conditions did not lend itself to buildings which were so heavy.
A friend and I went on an organised Get Carter Tour back in 2004. You could go in the car park up to about level 5 I think - but not up to the top where the 'restaurant' was. We reinacted the Carter/Brumby scene ... !
The car park in the background where Carter throws Brumby off the multi story (6m 12s of your film), if you check out an episode of whatever happened to the likely lads and its where Bob is taking Terry around and showing him how things have changed and they are standing on the same steps and the car park has gone and flats have been built there, which still remain today. That episode could only be a few years a most after the filming of Get Carter.
My claim to fame is on this one, I mixed that bright pink paint at Johnstone's paint at the Team Valley for the hoarding that's around the car park

I hope you did not throw him off the tower!
No, but we did take some pics ... the view from the stairs is very different now ...

also the architect of the car park was the man who designed the Derwent Tower (Dunston Rocket) which has also been demolished very recently.
@Strawberry7Lynn Do you know when Tesco acquired the site of the car park? Was it when it was clear it was about to be knocked down?
@alsaalabumba I thought that food could be served there but it could not be cooked there - or maybe I am mistaken.
The car park was already falling apart when the movie was made, so was unsafe. The restaurant was also unsafe.
The car park was new when the movie was made - or rather unfinished as it remained!
They used that rubbish concrete which fractured and crumbled all too easily and it made the whike thing like it was made of eggshells.
Deffo brutalism🤦
@alsaalabumba I am surprised it got planning permission for a restaurant - or maybe it did not!
