Thanks for the inspiration Tinman, and it’s so cool to see your relationship grow with Buckin…can’t wait for the road trip and his visit. Just picked up my own 266 to replace my rancher 455 for general use, 390 on standby for milling and bigger jobs. Like you, Buckin inspired me to get my first Mac, a 555 promac. Can’t believe I have a day job, just want to run and tinker with saws, haha. Love from Victoria/Jordan River/Cranbrook.
Outstanding video! I just loved your comment that a fast saw doesn't make a great work saw. I'm sure you and others are aware of how many people are intoxicated with RPMs and compression. Maybe it's just my age, but everything you said in this video takes precedence for me over speed and compression! Very well said! 👍👍👍
Thanks for this Tinman, Iv just started porting saws and have heard, seen a read a lot on porting but you have just explained better than anyone I have learnt from the difference between a working saw and a racing saw. I will most definitely play with a few things to see what I personally prefer in a saw. My 038 mag is sort of on the mark and have opened her up a bit more on the lower transfer ports then maybe you would like but I kept the intake and exhaust to a reasonable size so to keep her as a working saw. Love your work my friend and really appreciate your willingness to share your thoughts and experience’s 👍 He who has learnt can be learned from. All the best Timan and give my love to Buckin Billy Ray when you see him✌️
We have quite a bit of dead pine , Beatles . Not as bad as the interior , they don’t do as well in the wet coastal climate they are my favourite firewood . Windfalls are tricky, careful very unpredictable . Last year I cut a fourty inch spruce windfall with my 365 husky , 20 inch bar . Five pickup loads up to the top of the cab , a single tree . They grow tall out here 👍🇨🇦
Tinman, love to see you enjoying the fruits of your labour. Like you this chassis is my favorite and apparently I am partial to the 266 s as well. I have two stock and two ported 266se from the mid 80s. They are built from the knowledge that you my friend have shared on this channel. All the little tricks to make a good strong power saw, reliable and easy to start. I cut big second growth Douglas Fir and Grand Fir firewood and they cut as good if not better than the modern saws I've tried. Thank you for the gift of knowledge and the confidence to make mistakes and learn from them. All the best to you man, we all love and support what you contribute to this amazing chainsaw community.. Spruce budworm. It’s the reason you can’t bring campfire wood with you anyplace around here. Spruce is only for outdoor burning around here. It has a reputation for causing chimney fires. I’m a big fan of the warm up and cool down. I do set a high idle for cooling though. Some other fans just don’t move enough air at a low idle. You have a decent idle setting. Great video, thank you.
inspired me to do some more trail along the riverbank, blazing the way with a 555 autotune and 24” bar, then mulching with an electric mower. Woodpile gets bigger…never too early to start making the firewood pile! cheers from northern BC!🇨🇦
Love the 2 series chassis of Husqvarna’s. So simple to take apart or put together. One down side I happen to have is that on my 272xp it oils well but I have trouble getting that oil into the bar rail.
Good stuff. I'm going to be a bit contrary about the "give it to someone else". Some people like high rev Japanese motorcyles, others like torquey V-Twins. Each has a reason, each has an application. I also think there is a huge difference between a saw for daily use by a professional and a saw to be run by a homeowner (even a skilled one). To me bottom line would be "make enough power for the task at hand, don't blow up and last a long time". Difference between a top fuel dragster getting top end rebuild between each run and a 24 hrs LeMans car. I think everyone knows a bad saw, but a "good" saw has a lot of different variations.
I've always known that saws tend to get Richier on tuning when getting warm, because of the rings getting to sit right on the bore and the air coming in that is hotter and less dense. It is relatable to the change in tuning between winter and summer with hotter air coming into the carb. This saw seems to work totally the opposite way. It is incredible how every time i think that i got something figured out about saws i get immediately smashed down at the ground again😬
I absolutely love my 84 266se What length of bar is on yours Mine came with a 32 inch but the chain seams to get pretty hot especially when its buried in a big tree
Hey Tinman, quick question. Can’t find a 266xp in my area but there are a couple 266se’s. Any difference between the two that should cause me to wait to find the xp? Thanks, love the videos!
Spruce are being killed by spruce bark beetle _dendroctonus rufipennis_. We have similar issues here with the European version, _dentroctonus micans_ IMO the 266 is a true all-round work saw. Ran mine with a 15" bar & still managed felling sitka exceeding 6m³ in volume.
I enjoy watching your channel, not only is it entertaining, it is also educational. I noticed you pull the start cord out as you shut off the saw. Why pull the cord out? Should I be doing that too?
Hey tinman I love that 266 my son just brought a 266 home needs a complete rebuild we are going to do it together. Are u gonna port ur 5200 I can't wate to see her rip
Rebuilt & ported (bb) my 266se from the bearings up. But then I had to use the other case from another 266 I was going to build due to the bar stud spinning freely. Guess who's going to learn how to TIG weld magnesium soon... I'm going to be using a clear tote with an Argon bath just to make sure I don't have any issues.
I wish my 266 sounded like that I have a bad crank seal or an air leak somewhere I put a Johnny top end on it and it ran fine til it was tuned still running just not 100%
Appreciate all your videos! I noticed you have a Holtzfforma bar on the 266. Have you had any luck with those bars? I bought one and it wore out fast. Seems like soft metal. Curious as to your experience
Hey Tinman, just bought a saw at a yard sale, it runs and I knew it had to be a 61, 266, or 268. There is no model # on the saw but I took the cylinder off and it is a 50ZN11mahle, do you know what this is? Thanks
Hey Tinman, my 266 cuts out when I turn it on it’s side to the left. Other than that it runs well and tunes fine. Any thoughts where to look? Kind regards

Good morning from wicklow great way to ease into the day
i run my 266 series all day long and absolutely love running them!! the power is endless in these series saws

I’m itching to run my 266XP! Got it torn down for a little refresh right now.
Just got a 266se in a box with parts! Awesome saw really!
Think that's on my todo list to build the 266 cases i have kicking rather then 272 swap
Love the 2 series chassis of Husqvarna’s. So simple to take apart or put together. One down side I happen to have is that on my 272xp it oils well but I have trouble getting that oil into the bar rail.
Ironhorse has a vid on how to fix that.

You’ve got it figured out👌
Gotta love the old faithful's!
Love that 266!!

I wish I had a uncle or friend like you ahaha to port my saws
Awesome 266, gotta love these old reliable saw. TC Tinman Mahalo 🤙🤙🤙
Those 266s are a great saw
Hey Tinman, quick question. Can’t find a 266xp in my area but there are a couple 266se’s. Any difference between the two that should cause me to wait to find the xp? Thanks, love the videos!
Get tinman!!! Great great content, that's a very nice running saw you got there
The way that 266 restarted, my buddy would call that "half a chicken wing." And that is what we all want!
Easy starting is huge in a saw that I'll do work with for sure.
@@tinmanssaws you've got the carb set perfect and everything on that unit is optimal. You don't get half a chicken wing without the perfect tune
Spruce are being killed by spruce bark beetle _dendroctonus rufipennis_.

It saves shock on the recoil parts. It's not necessary but I think it's a good thing to do.
Love the channel and content tinman 👍👍
Quick question... What work boots are you wearing when your out cutting wood ?
Hey tinman I love that 266 my son just brought a 266 home needs a complete rebuild we are going to do it together. Are u gonna port ur 5200 I can't wate to see her rip
Here in Nebraska we have a few species of evergreen trees that are being clobbered by beetles and I'm sure many other parts of the country
Same here, they seem to ravage certain types of trees.
Looked like a great day to be out cutting
Rebuilt & ported (bb) my 266se from the bearings up.
But then I had to use the other case from another 266 I was going to build due to the bar stud spinning freely.

On my favorite saw one friend borrowed mine to fix it wasn't staying running 3 years ago and never gave it back so ya wish still had mine
I have a spare 266 if your interested
Hell yeah
Great video and well said, brother!!
does the 266se. do well in fresh green wood. ? my echo cs590 struggles terribly in green wood. but at the same time in dry Dead wood it cuts great
I wish my 266 sounded like that I have a bad crank seal or an air leak somewhere I put a Johnny top end on it and it ran fine til it was tuned still running just not 100%
Where do I get the full wrap handle for the 266se ? Or do u have to make one from another saw
That 266 is sweet
Appreciate all your videos! I noticed you have a Holtzfforma bar on the 266. Have you had any luck with those bars? I bought one and it wore out fast. Seems like soft metal. Curious as to your experience
They'll be a video on the bars in the next couple days. Stay tuned

266xp by the cylinder number
Why do you pull out the cord before killing the saw?
A guy needs to fix one of those 550s for limbing.. fast, light and good power..
And time to treat that 266 to a tin can pipe
Yeah I'd like to pipe this saw for sure.
Hey Tinman, my 266 cuts out when I turn it on it’s side to the left. Other than that it runs well and tunes fine. Any thoughts where to look?
Kind regards
Air leak probabaly on the crank seal on that side would be my guess

What makes the saw whine like it has a turbo or super charger?
It's the clutch you're hearing. The old saws like this had noisy clutches
Old faithful
I got the 268
About 5 year ago for 100 bucks
Beetles maybe
Too bad you couldnt get a saw mill. Be great lumber.
