    Bombito and Crépeau redeemed themselves during the penalty shootout. David, Davies and Koné also came through massively in converting their pens.

    Congrats from a US fan. Frankly the only reason I'm watching any games at this point is to see how Canada does. I believe that Marsch is a much better coach than some people particularly in the UK give him credit for. Leeds with no real money to spend, crap centerbacks and a center forward who couldn't hit the side of a barn still had Leeds competitive. And as soon as he was dismissed Leeds form dropped off a cliff. Then to add insult to injury, the US turned him down as coach to replace GGGk. Good for Marsch and good for Canada. It's really strange to see Canada play much like they played 10 to 20 years ago. No they were not the most technical or capable but they used speed, tenacity, disciple and grit to win games. I would love to see Canada win another game. Good luck.

    I’ve been extremely critical of Larin for several years now. But his defensive work is massive for how we defend as a unit. I rather defend solidly than score many goals and concede just as many like we did against Jamaica.

  • @Electionmeter
    @Electionmeter 2 місяці тому +6

    I'm going to focus on the tactics:
    - Rest defence needs to be better on Canada's offensive setpieces, that is why we conceded the goal (i.e., Why is Bombito even put in that position 1 v 1 in the first place) and so many chances against Argentina
    - Defensive recovery from Canada's forward players could also be better during counterattacks (seemed like only a few players were rushing back sometimes)
    - Canada's 4-4-2 press and counter pressing have been very effective
    - Canada doesn't need to dominate possession to play well, create chances and get results
    - Marsch exploited the high-block from phases of Venezuela's build-up through verticality and directness, which won Canada the game

    • @stevendchu
      @stevendchu 2 місяці тому +1

      Agreed that Canada is more of a direct threat, on the wings and in behind especially. But I would like to see us be able to control games more with possession and close games out

    I’m so happy for Kone, must have been hard to be on the bench for the last 2 games but he came back hungry yesterday and wins the match. It’s going to be a very valuable experience for him and will pay off in the future. I want also say that I think media, including Josh, have been a bit harsh on him, saying he disappointed against Argentina and Peru. People forget how little experience he has on the big stage. He didn’t play u15 to u20s, instead he was playing for CS St Laurent. Copa America is just a different beast, it’s an all out war and you have to adjust your mentality. Also playing a2 man midfield will expose any mistake you make so there’s not a lot of room for error here for a young lad in his first Copa. Kudos to Marsch noticing that and putting Osorio in but I think this experiment should be over with. We saw how ready he was when he came on and he brought something that the team needs, control and ideas in the midfield. I really hope he starts Tuesday.

    My takeaway is an up tempo team, proud to play for the shirt. They seem to panic when they get close to scoring, shooting wide or at the goalie, could easily have been 3 - 0 at the 1st half for Canada. That's a nice problem to have, getting good chances, their future is bright.

      My predictions: shaff to top 5 Europe. Would like to see Crepeau at a decent French club. If Johnston has another solid performance I could see mid table/europa league level premier league teams looking at him. Both Cornelius and Bombito could go to a French/German/top dutch league team if they have solid performances. I’m a big Eustaquio fan but he just hasn’t been himself so far. If he can pull out a solid performance vs Argentina, it’ll get Porto’s attention. Millar will stay in championship unless he has at least one clinical moment. David to top premier league club, especially if he can have at least one clinical moment in final 2 matches. Larin will stay in bottom of table La Liga side, or lower level league because he’s hit his peak and will decline after this tournament. Tani could get Europe interest if he gets any more looks. He’s looked like a beast but just hasn’t put it in the back of the net yet

    @OttawaRocks 2 місяці тому

    Quick takeaways:
    - Davies has a calming presence on the backline (besides Bombito/Cornelius/Johnston). His game has matured and if he wasn't there we would be facing way more pressure from any South American opposition. He has also matured in other ways such as he showed in PKs (compared to what he did vs Belgium in the WC2022).
    -Marsch's tactics have been pretty good; not everything is perfect but he has been adaptable and he can think quickly on his feet while the game is moving along.
    -I'm not worried about Canada's finishing; the finishing will come in time and while we wait Canada's team D has been pretty good. Given defence has been a major issue in the past, it has improved quite bit.

    Here are my thoughts.....1. Canada deserved the win. We were the better team. We had to play through the most one sided officiating I have seen in either the Euro or Copa; 2. our lack of finishing may be our undoing. We should have been up 3 or 4 to nil before Rondon's wonder strike; 3. Max made his only mistake of the tournament thus far but more than made up for it in the penalty shootout; and 4. Let's hope that Kone's stone cold finish on his PK gives him his mojo back. Osorio has filled in nicely but to beat Argentina, we need the Kone from the France friendly and we need to finish our scoring chances.

    Great game overall. 2 takeaways for me
    1) Shaffelburg must start.
    2) Jesse has to look into dropping Larin. With David and Larin out there, it seems like we have two centre forwards out there who are good at dropping into midfield and build up but no pure striker option. You’re not dropping David. It has to be Larin.
    Looking ahead, if Canada isn’t more clinical against Argentina, they have little chance to go to a final. When Tani came on, the team looked much more dangerous in the final 3rd, so start him over Larin. I would also give Millar the start over Laryea, Kone to start over Oso. Canada needs to take the game to Argentina and get them in transition. Oso played well against Venezuela but is not as physically gifted as Kone which is fine against a less physical, less technically gifted Venezuela side (than Argentina) but against Argentina he will get out matched physically and technically.

      I would like to see Marsh commit to, and build for the future, by replacing Eustaquio in the midfield somehow. Although he has some experience and composure, his distribution, soccer IQ and quickness are too weak for the world stage.
      Canada’s midfield were timid and physically outplayed.

      The turnovers were also largely caused by Venezuela's relentless pressing. The pressing also led to massive chances for Canada when we were able to break the press. We just didn't finish them, so Venezuela was confident to continue pressing all the way to the end even after they tied the game.

      @@timolsen8252 Canada's midfielders are plenty strong imo. Eustaquio is a very intelligent player and Kone is a very, very special talent. It's simply asking too much of them with just 2 in a double pivot against the world's best. We need 3. I'd lean towards a 4-14-1 with Eustaquio in the CDM. It can be either Kone and Osorio in 8s ahead of him or even Kone and Ahmed.

      As long as the USMNT has an elementary u6 coach in charge of our team we don’t deserve to be in any top list.
