I remember my first Sprint: SoCal January 2018. Took me nearly 3 hours to complete. By the end, I hobbled my way back to my car, still muddy because I didn’t think to get a change of clothes. Changed my life forever...AROO

And the mild hypothermia i got while crushing the 2019 carolinas BEAST...39 degrees and pouring down rain!!! Then, with 2 miles left, stopped raining and dropped to around 34 degrees and got windy...had to sit in my car for an hour after before i could drive i was shaking so much!!! Just an update here to say that I did my first race this past Saturday. It was so much fun and a lot of work. I ended up with a sprained muscle but I am excited to do more in the future. ❤🙏🏻

I remember my first sprint was at london south, i had dragged my wife round a tough mudder 5k the day before thinking doing it at my wifes pace wouldn't be too bad. Didn't allow for dragging her up and down hills. Took more out of me then i thought. Ha ha. Loved it though was battered at the end. Trifecta weekend hopefully this year in october.
Hello! I would really like to know about the story behind your team and how you guys started with all the OCRs It would be really interesting to know about all your preparations and planning that went behind your youtube channel and journey I request you guys to make a video on this topic Very much appreciated!
I'm planning to do my first Obstacle race in 2023, which gives me over one year to get in amazing shape and crush it. After so many decades of training as a bodybuilder, wrestler, male exotic dancer, etc, I am wanting to get out of my comfort zone and do something I've always flirted with doing but never made it into fruition. I see you have .plenty of playlists tutorials. Which one would you recommend for me to start out, so I can at least have an idea of the A..B..Cs on how to get this done. I just don't want to do these races for the sake of doing them. I want to be able to finish them in an efficient time and effort, so I can say that I gave it my all. Thank you.

Did my first race ever last weekend at the Montana Sprint. Fell off multi rig, sprained my ankle then broke a rib on one of those damn hurdles. Just couldn't hang on to monkey bars or get over that 6 foot wall because of the rib. The only part that really irritates me is I failed the rope climb because it was just too painful. I was psyched for that obstacle! Now I can't wait to go again.
YIKES! Are you alright??? I know the feeling of being bummed but motivated for the next race, I felt that way after snapping my ankle at a bonefrog years ago. You got to take it easy tho for a bit and heal up. Hang in there and get well. I give you a lot of credit for even trying to carry on and attempt the obstacles while injured, that's hardcore! AROO!!
@@OCRKings I tell you, seeing that burning pile of wood was so awesome. Finished in 1:56:34. Could barely walk yesterday but was mostly driving home anyway. My foot looks like a balloon but doesnt hurt as much today. The rib, well, yeah that one is going to hurt for a bit longer. Thanks for your videos!! I'll do a couple local races in June and Aug then back to MT next year for a Super.
You know your body and hydration needs best. If you need to run with a hydro bladder like a Camelbak, then go for it, especially if it's super hot and you know you need a lot of water when you run. For us, for a Sprint, we typically don't run with a hydro bladder. At most, we'll have a 12oz. Gatorade in on of the front pouches of the vests we run in, but that's just us. We typically have the vests on to carry all he spare batteries and whatnot, and not specifically for a bladder. But again, that's just us. If you need more hydration, definitely carry it and do what's right for you. If you want to go lighter, there are race belts out there that will carry up to 1L of water that might suffice. In case you're interested in that sort of thing, here is the belt I run with during road races: amzn.to/3K6rnW0 It's a good example of some of the options that Ultimate Direction has (the group who also makes the vests we run in).
The short answer is yes. The burpees penalty is less strictly enforced in the open non-competitive waves, it's more on the honor system, but they should be done upon non-completion of an obstacle.
Good question! For the most part, it's one attempt only. Sometimes on the rope climb and the herc hoist you can get multiple tries, but for the rest you get one try and if you fail or skip then you have to do burpees.
Good luck at your first race, enjoy! As far as the spear, keep practicing. Line up your shot, take a breath, and take your time before throwing. Make sure the cord is on the target side, over the fence, so it doesn't get hung up (we see a lot of people step on the cord and ruin their throw). Either way, it's 50/50, you either hit or you miss, and it's no more burpees, just a penalty loop on a miss. AROO!
Great question! Typically it's one try and burpees on non-completion. One exception is the rope climb. Especially in open waves, you are allowed to make as many attempts climbing the rope as you want.

The possibilities for wet and slippery obstacles? The slippery rope climb! The slippery Herc Hoist! The muddy grim covered cargo net A Frame! List goes on!
