    This is the perfect capture of Matt Canada's offense (especially when he was in college) Multiple tight ends, jet motion and plays off that motion. Only thing missing is the multiple pre-snap shifts

    I think canadas philosophy can be very effective and dangerous. It’s based on conditioning the defense. My real issue with him is stubbornness to make adjustments and take chances on first down particularly in the middle of the field. It’s like the athletes and pro gamers that play too clean. They are good most of the time but once someone figures them out there is a ceiling. Gotta throw a little random/explosiveness in there to keep opponents honest.

    • @all_22_films

      Definitely is a balanced Offensive formation that can threaten either side of the field. I agree the Personnel variations can sometimes tip your hand. That is an interesting point about throwing on 1st Down. I have not seen enough film to follow up on that right now, but will try to complete a Part 2 at some point soon. Thank you for commenting.

      @@all_22_films Yea no prob, I think Canada uses 1st and 2nd down too often to collect info/condition and not gain yards and I think that's a HUGE reason why the teams 1st quarter offense under him has been the worst in Steeler history, he's gotta go trust his players to just be better on some 1st downs and just go for it, not recklessly but I guess similarly to how the 49ers or Bills or KC will take shots early in the game.

    great breakdown. Canada did a LOT of this in college. I think he'll open it up a bit more now that we have Washington and the guards that can really get dirty. I have a feeling there will be more power runs out of this as well. im excited to see how they incorporate CA3 and Allen Robinson in this. Also, realistic steelers fans understand that our roster wasn't the best...not the worst...but not the best.

      In most Steelers social media sites, the 'fans' hated the jet sweep plays, calling it a 'college level' offense not fitting for the pros. I think NFL fans should realize that many of the 'innovations' came from the college rank where the talent level are not that balanced and coaches had to create schemes that maximize their resources. These kind of schemes fit to what a rebuilding team - like the Steelers - need in order to compete against resource rich teams. Even though Steelers have upgraded their personnel, these 'college gimmick' plays are here to stay as they open more avenues for other vertical plays in the future.

      @@fredlin6303 I have spent the past year studying the west coast offense. 9ers and old Broncos tape...lots of jet sweep and motions. I like how it creates hesitation. All you need is 1 or 2 guys worrying about the man in motion and the back. the all 22 shows it, you run this effectively, it opens up the pass. those concepts are super simple to read. making things extremely easy on the QB. Not to mention, the complex things you can do off that once the QB becomes more confident and knowledgeable with the reads.
      I understand however haha when those runs yield 1 to 2 yards almost everytime haha it gets annoying haha have to start somewhere.

    I still think we have only seen snippets of his total offensive scheme. Just bits and pieces of it b/c of the lack of personnel to pull it off. Now we've got a stacked TE/H-back room as well as some road-graders on the Oline and I think we'll be much better this season compared to the past 2 seasons. IMO, the O has been greatly transformed and as soon as they can all get on the same page, I think we're going to cause some teams a lot of headaches. Look at Canada's offenses at NIU, NC State, Wisconsin, and Pitt to get a glimpse of what I'm talking about - all those teams had a ~35ppg average with prodigious yards rushing and passing. Successful rushing opens up the passing lanes and vice-versa.......

    Canada is going to be the deciding factor on how the steelers do. Hopefully he actually utilizes the talent available and not call generic plays. If he does the bs like he did last year of - 1st down run inside 2nd down run outside 3rd down short pass outside 4th down punt.

    0:20 0:20 why would you take your two best offense players off the field and put Gunner in. When other team see him in they know it's going to be run on jet sweep. That's why they put eight or 9 men in the box. Because they don't fear him. When Johnson and George Pickett on the field. The whole different game. Let Kenny throw the ball to open up the game. Then run the ball. We got too many weapons not to be scoring 25 points of game. I don't care how good our defense is. Fourteen points just ain't going to get it.

  • @user-oops
    @user-oops Рік тому +2

    I think the fans who hate the jet sweep are so used to it being a trick play that goes for 30yds when its used once a year. Steelers avg 8ypc on jet sweeps, if u look at it as just another run play 8ypc is great. Fans get on the coaching staff for spamming zone runs but you did a great job pointing out the wrinkles in this scheme & how keeping it simple works in the steelers favor. And like u said, the coaching staff was somewhat limited by the talent of the players. The numbers show that the linemen just couldn’t win on anything other than zone runs

    Matt Canada shure has received a LOT of heat, to put it mildly in the first half of last season. He just seemed so predictable and the Jet sweeps just ran into a loaded box. I would love to see your take on what happened as to why the sweep failed so miserably in the first half of the season. I have yet to see Canada call a Great game. Winning game yes, great game no.

    • @fredlin6303
      @fredlin6303 Рік тому

      First half of the season, there were a lot of miscommunication along the OLine and blocking in general. They were using Claypool a lot in the Twin Wing schemes and he missed a lot of the blocking assignments. The OLine missed a lot of the blocks in those reverse plays, therefore, negated the design of the play.
      You see a lot of Gunner in second half of the season running these plays as he being a special team player is more used to blocking assignments. Now that Steelers have multiple TE's who can block and catch, wouldn't surprise to see more 13 personnel plays instead of 22. Also, WR having another year under their belt, perhaps they are better at their blocking assignments as well.

    Born in Baltimore when the Colts were in town and we all wanted to be Johnny U., then moved to Pittsburgh to grow up in the 60's & 70's, and the Noll's moved in right up the street. Their son Chris became a friend, so of course I became a Steeler fan - something that got a lot easier to do after they drafted "Joe who?". Later moved to B'more after the military, but the Colts moved, so the Steelers remained my team. The Ravens will always be the Browns to me, and the new Browns will always be the team that we keep out if the playoffs, no matter how good they get. ;)
    Best games of year are always Steelers v. Ravens, IMNSHO, and I do kinda root for the Ravens if the Steelers are out of it (I just think I would've loved to play for Harbaugh).
    This year I seriously think that Darnell Washington is gonna line up w/ Muth and who cares who else, and between them and their wide out options, along with the rest of the meat fest, Harris is gonna have a career year while Kenny passes all over the place at will. The division is gonna be brutal, and I think the pass happy bungles are going to end up back where they belong, 3rd or 4th in the division.
    Anyway, thanks for the video.

    You did a great job defending 🇨🇦. But, to me he is terrible. An unfortunately we won't win until he is gone. But, since you love him so much. He is available for a roll of toilet 🧻.
