Haven't watched football in a few years. I completely forgot how special he was. 4.33 40, the hits, the interceptions, the strips, the snap timing plays. The guy was physically gifted, obviously studied tape and had off the charts in game awareness and body control. It looks like the guy is moving a million miles and hour but has the control like he's playing in slow motion.
@@JW0143 No, he's correct. No player changed his side of the ball more than Polamalu. If I were picking a team to play one game, I would start with Polamalu. There are a lot of great QB's to pick from, so Brady wouldn't be it. I can find a defensive end close enough to LT. Even Barry Sanders has a replacement. Troy changes the way you play defense because he can play any position on defense other than NT. He's a guy who can blitz from ten yards deep or crowd the line at the snap and drop into deep coverage without missing a step.
The best part about all of the legend's big hits are that they are 100% fundamental, safe and clean hits. Head on the outside and lead with the shoulder! Rare to see anymore these days
I remember a few years ago, there was a highlight clip of Polamalu running across the field to catch receiver who had a clear field in front of him. It looked like he was going to an easy score. Then Polamalu zoomed in with lightning-fast closing speed and folded him up like Origami. It was one of the most artful things I'd seen in football. Now I can't find it. It is every bit as incredible as any of these highlights.
Troy was never given his just due.He truly was the best of the best.He was that caliber of player that you wanted to see play forever. We love you Troy P. And miss you here in " THE BURGH "
Yes for both players. I saw Hines play QB in high school and at GA. Then they turn into wide receiver because that didn't trust black QB then. I am from the south and have football since the age of 5. I am now 70's. My Uncle at Ala A&M taught about the game.
I remember back when they were both playing the the debate was who's better Ed Reed or Troy looking back it wasn't even close Troy polamalu is the greatest who ever done it at the safety position hands down
Parhm Two different positions, two very different players. The one thing Troy had though over all other strong or free safety’s, was an overwhelming presence in the backfield. No safety in the history of the nfl made that big of an impact behind the line of scrimmage.
Steeler fan. Huge Troy fan. But let’s be fair here. Ed Reed was a fuckin boss. I like Troy more because he played for my team. But let’s not discredit the football genius of Ed Reed
Ed Reed was a better pure coverage safety and had a mind for the game like many safeties do not. Think Peyton-esque brains but at the safety position. Polamalu had something arguably better than brains - the best football instinct the game has ever seen.
He is my vote for the best football player, all positions, ever. Plenty of great HOzF players but nobody did the superhuman things Troy did. Brady best QB, for example but the greatest player ever - Troy.
I forgot how much he completely blew up the opposition's play when he would shoot the gap. My favorite game with him is still the 2005 AFC Div. against the Colts. There was only one other Steeler who had the same impact on the opposition with disrupting the plays and that was Joe Greene
I really miss Troy. He was my favorite player back in his time. I already like the Steelers but I fell in love with them when he played. Go Troy. With love your favorite fan.
#41 I wish when video clips of TPs hit on Hill are shown that they would let you see just a few seconds more. Hill is rocked to his bones and shook up. I was hit like that in high school and every time I see this play I feel for Hill. Loved watching Troy play. He enjoyed the game. played at full speed, and was humble. Clean playing but hard hitting. Wish more were like him.
Most instinctive football player I ever seen. Troy would just teleport around the field making plays on the ball downfield, hits on receivers, plus sacks and tackles in the backfield. Complete Safety.
We gotta get Talanoa Hufanga. We have a need for safety depth and he’s done well in the slot, in the box, and shows solid instincts. He’s also made special teams contributions so he’s got a shot. Not to mention he’s working with Troy this offseason
Impresionante! Uno de los jugadores más intensos que he visto jugar en la NFL. Gracias Troy, larga Vida y lo mismo pra todos los que aman este maravilloso deporte. Ulises Espinosa desde la CDMX.
One of many reasons I love that Steelers team was every defensive td. Whoever the ball carrier was had an entourage of blockers on the way to the end zone.
I can't believe the blocked kick wasn't in there. But the dude made SO MANY plays it is tough. Never seen a player jump the snap better than him, and we may never see one do it as good and often as he did.............dude is a legend. And I am not even a Steelers fan.
Possibly the greatest football player of all time. Elite tackler. Elite coverage skills. Elite pass rusher. Elite offensive skills as well. Elite hands and ability to high point the ball like a receiver, and he was like an elite running back once he had the ball in his hands. Then there were his football IQ and instincts.
They were both great players. Troy had more sacks and tackles. Ed had twice as many interceptions and score twice as many TDs. I would want both on my team. They both had the same amount of fumbles.
This man’s explosiveness was out of this world. How he could get low and just charge and make a tackle with a defender in front of him was not normal. You knew he was just gonna get there somehow someway.
If this would have been 1000 years ago you just know Troy would have been a warrior who had a legend about them.

Troy made watching football fun. You just knew he was gonna do something spectacular. There's never been anyone like him. Thank you Troy.
Agreed. Should be a first round hall of famer if not top 5 safeties all time. Early 2000s football was some of the most exciting fun to watch ever
Well there is another troy in san Francisco as we speak Haha
@@cncdan1364 defense was some of the best to watch at that time
Barry sanders was like that. You knew he would do something exciting
Troy made me a Steelers fan. I’m from California.
Troy will always be missed.........
How this man was not elected in the NFLs all time top 100 just blows my mind. He had a football instinct like no other.
wait, he is not considered as one of the top 100 nfl players ever? that is a crime :D
He plays for the Steelers that’s why the nfl loves to hate on us
I agree 👍 💯
Lots of haters up there, who voted him out! Politics bs! Obviously! 😅
Pure jealousy no doubt, and it's obvious! Lol 😆
Dude was a maniac on the field and the nicest, most soft-spoken, and humble guy off the field. Pure class.
I miss Troy so much...watching the Steelers play nowadays just isn't the same
Indeed
Yup. Miss Hines Ward too.

Polamalu was insanely gifted and had an amazing work ethic
This highlight seems like opposing coordinators were telling Troy what the play was going to be and the snap count as well.
What I loved about Troy is that he never showboated. Never stood over anyone.
Greatest Player EVER!
