Thor's deadlift was INSANE. Went 45lbs heavier than he needed to and still made it look effortless.
Made a statement. A real warrior.
He is the static strength king atm and he only needed a few months.. Insanity
He needed to go that heavy, so Bobby wouldn't make a second attempt.
@@AndreRiikonen Not to take away anything from him, but he did train squats and deadlifts to break the powerlifting record.

Thors deadlift looks back to form. That 1006 lbs was effortless looking.

@@vaskodimoski5690 elephant bar & no-gear also make a big difference. All the lifters on stage were substantially lower than their normal deadlift (with gear) pulls. Both of those variables make it more difficult to pull the weight.
Based on how Thor pulled that 1006lbs, I can't see him not pulling 505KG with a normal bar while wearing gear.
@vaskodimoski5690 this pull was suitless and like a speed rep. It's not like he struggled at all and people are saying if he can do 1000 he's close to 1100. Put a suit on him and watch what happens, hell he'll probably get close on the raw one rep max if he does the Shaw classic.

Mitch’s improvement is absolutely incredible. Every competition he jumps leaps and bounds in every event but most importantly events that would finish middle of the pack at events before.
Mitch is one of the best all rounders of all time already, if he keeps at it he still has a chance to go down as a GOAT

I believe that Thors stint in Boxing have played a HUGE role in his comeback. Think about the foot speed and superior proprioception. He is a superior 400lbs+ now than he was pre-boxing.

I agree I know he was still training hard but it was for conditioning and he was so much more healthy. That will have a great affect on his body, the peck tare was a set back but again instead of just breaking the record witch we all knew he would have he stopped and admitted he didn't want to get hurt, he's better mentally and physically, let's hope day 2 shows us more!
@@--SPQR--His body composition actually looks better now. His pressing power isn't back but that's because of his injury.

@@jonhofelich9107 which considering he hasn't competed in strongman for what 3/4 years, had an injury meaning he couldn't train until 10 months ago and worse yet couldn't train upper body in a real way until 6 months ago, is absolutely wild he placed so high in a competition this big. 6 months of really training n he's this powerful. Imagine where he will be in the next year or 2

He would still have had to warm up, much heavier than other comps. But yeah, saved energy.
@@jefflawson3574 If I recall correctly he has very limited mobility in his ankles from prior injuries which is not ideal when you're carrying a massive weight on an incline.
I just hope everyone appreciates what they are witnessing with Hooper. He has made one of the hardest sports going look easy. Just an unbelievable athlete.

What had my jaw on the floor was my shock when Martin's dropped that deadlift. I felt absolutely gutted for him and could read it all over his face. He knew he lost contention right there
@jodyfitzpatrick1679 and when he dropped the frame. Some of the performances are also attributing to the bitter part. Like Bobby on the frame, Rebbeca on the Deadlift, Evan on the frame, Inez going face first into the frame was scary and so on. Rollercoaster ride of a show so far. Love how good Mateuz is doing so far! Even though he was visibly disappointed by his time on the frame, but he is hard on himself. And was impressed by Thor's frame run. Can't wait for today!
And people are still questioning his 501...I cant wait for the day when he crushes this old record in a competition

It's scary how easy Thor lifts these huge weights, they look like they forgot to add weights to the bar. In 2020 Rogue record breakers when Thor failed an attempt at 501kg it came as a shock to see him fail a lift. I'm confident Thor will break 500kg in elephant bar within a year.
Thor and Mitch top 2,seems like it was written in the stars for some reason😂,i do think Mitch will win it tho,he looks in great condition,he still is getting better with every comp its scary,Thor is a strongman legend and just showed how great he is today,looking forward go day 2.

Loved seeing Loz immediately changing Andreas thought when she was talking about tomorrow. Just deadlifted 315 for the first time and made it because a friend did something similar for me. Thanks Aunty Liz for getting this up quickly.

At the end we should have women compete against the men in the last event. Just to show the difference 😂 as they've tried the opposite

I became a huge fan of Mateusz Kieliszkowski after he did the stone to shoulder.. what 2 or 3 years ago and just blew everyone out of the water!
Loz can you PLEASE coach Mateusz on the deadlift. Seeing him have to claw back after bombing it every comp sucks, we all want him to win

I'm sure by now many strong men have offered to work with Mateusz, not to mention Poland is full of strongmen and sensational dead lifters. With Mateusz strongman has always been a mental game - and he openly admits he hates the deadlift. I'd venture it'd be better to work with a sports psychologist. Having said that, it's good to see him happy and healthy this year!
@@Sebastian_Polak_Maly I would really like to see Mateusz hang with the big boys on the deadlift, but he would probably have to make some sacrifices to get there. He might end up more well rounded, but less spectacular.

Having a child and going through the boxing both humbled Thor and have made him a MUCH cooler person. Just my thoughts.
Nothing like a punch in the face and poopy diapers at 2AM to humble you!
I think his english coming a long way has helped him become more personable as well.
He was cool before those as well.
So happy to see mateusz smiling on day 1, now after seeing day2 and him coming second i hope he is proud of himself, second sucks offcourse, we all know what he's like.
But his 5times lifting that stone was, just awesome.
That guy (just like all of them, lets be honest) deserves a strongman title for sure, he is such an animal.
Seeing from where he started to where he is now, also just because his english has improven so much and his interaction with you guys and martines and romark behind the scenes was allways awesome.

I was soooo impressed with Thor's performance on the frame-carry. Didn't expect him to come even close to second. Phenomenal!
Grip strength actually increases with age all the way till your 60s and even 70s if you work at it. He's been working on it and trying to keep up with his dad, who has an amazing grip too. Shame he couldn't press the stone, wanted to see him podium this year.
The most competitive Arnold in years with perhaps the deepest field ever with 5 WSM winners and 3 AC winners.

A humbling day for Tom Stoltman, who I have huge respect for. However, Thor showed that he has a long to aim for.
Mitch continues his reign of terror. As good as Thor looked, I cannot help to recognize that Mitch won by over 10 points. Absolutely on another level.
This event is so awesome. The energy is incredible. Massive props to all athletes but i special shout tonthe girls, they reallt showed up 👌

Thor could rep bobby's or mitch's max DL, no one touches him in that event. Thor for the overall win. Hell beat mitch in both stone events, and maybe even the axel.

I dont think Thor will win axle, he is certainly strong enough, but hes not gonna push the pec
I think the only way Thor wins axel this comp is through Hooper making a mistake or getting injured. I think the real fight for the win will happen in the dinny stones. Will be a close fight for this championship.

It will come to how much Mateusz can push Mitch at the Axle and the Medley, and how much Thor can clinch at least a 3rd place in the Axle. Sadly Martins seems to be out of the picture, Tom and Oleksii may surprise with a podium if something goes wrong with the top guys.

Thors deadlift and Mateusz stones was just unreal, thors deadlift because it looked like he had WR if he wanted it and Mateusz is probably one of the most impressive feats of strengths I've seen.
