If you found out your child was being harmed on a near daily basis under your own roof, the guilt, the shock, the anger, and the instinctual need to protect your child on top of knowing you failed would be a LOT to handle.
We dont know if she is prone to any other mental disorders.
Add that on top of the fact that her mother found out on social media after who knows how many other people saw it. She wasnt confided in. That is super traumatic.
So when you have the entirety of the internet and then some cursing you out and blaming you for not protecting your child from these monsters for years on top of needing said child to be the breadwinner... yeah.
      "I'm still processing/seeing a therapist" is a perfectly valid non-narcissistic response.
A narcissistic response would be writing an entire essay on how devastated they were and their life story as this was happening, making their childs pain all about them.
Using "I'm" twice in a tweet doesnt make it all about them.

As a CSA survivor myself, I relate so heavily to Bella's story. My abuser was my stepfather, and it also began before I was old enough to form memory and lasted until my early teens. The only reason I was able to get the courage to tell someone about the abuse was because my mother got pregnant again and we found out it was a baby girl. I couldn't protect or stand up for myself, but I wasn't going to sit by and let him hurt my baby sister. She truly saved me. Without her, I'm honestly not sure if I ever would've told anyone.
I relate so much to Bella when she says that it changed her as a person. I've often felt like he killed the girl that I was meant to be, that the life I was meant to live was stolen from me. And the worst part of it all is that after over a decade of suffering at this monster's hands, he only spent 4 months in prison. He was released early for "good behavior". It absolutely crushes me, and blows my mind. It feels like I was victimized a second time by our justice system. Of course he behaved in prison, there are no children in there!!! Our broken system allows for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th time offenders to exist. It helps to create them by not punishing these crimes as severely as they deserve.
He's now out and happily remarried to a woman with young granddaughters. The state forced my mother to give him visitation with my baby sister because "There's no evidence to suggest he'd abuse his biological child". He's back to having full access to minor children, and nobody seems to care but me. It sickens and disgusts me. It hurts. I worry for those girls every single day of my life. It hurts to know that I did everything I could to protect others from suffering at his hands, and it wasn't enough, and nothing ever will be.
There is no justice in our justice system.

@@tamaraj4745 Thank you, I appreciate your understanding and kindness ♡
Unfortunately what was done to me can never be undone. The important part now is to take every opportunity to speak out and make people understand that the justice system in the US isn't taking these crimes seriously, and in not doing so, allowing additional children to be victimized by these offenders when they could prevent it.
I'm at the point in my healing journey now where it's becoming increasingly important to look for way to get into advocating for stricter sentencing for sexual crimes against minors. I can't sit by silently and continue to allow this to happen.
If anyone has any suggestions or advice on getting started in advocacy, I'm all ears! In the meantime I'm researching my options and will continue telling my story in hopes that it may spread awareness on the unbelievably blatant lack of justice available to victims of CSA.

@M B Thank you so much, truly that's a very generous thing to say, but I'm no more kindly or brave than anyone else would be in the same situation. I find that this is a very universal experience among CSA survivors. We know that we can't undo what's been done to us, but we can try to make it so that it doesn't happen to the next girl. That's probably the driving force behind most survivors desire to come clean, the fear that our silence could allow for another to suffer our same fate.
I truly hope the same. That eventually the people in power will truly listen and make the necessary changes to protect the vulnerable among us, and provide true justice to those who seek it. I won't be silent until we all get the justice and protection that we all deserve.

Here's the problem: many children don't recognize when they are being sexually abused. It's genuinely human to enjoy the attention of others. They don't know when certain affections and advances are wrong since they have no metric to compare them with. They just think that it's normal until they get old enough to realize otherwise -- then it might be too late and they feel an overwhelming sense of guilt as if it's their fault rather than the abuser's fault. That kind of emotional strain can last a lifetime and explains a lot about certain celebrity melt-downs.

Bella isn’t wrong for feeling like her body was all she had to offer. I went through the same thing. I was groomed to believe it was normal and that I was a good girl for keeping the secret. And when I was (5-14)14 and realized it was wrong it was like everyone turned against me for speaking up. My own father testified against me and he allowed it. I’m proud of her for making a stand. I have Stockholm syndrome as well. I also have a pet name given to me by my offender. :( I’m 32 and just now realized I have a serious sexual disorder bc I’m desensitized. And didn’t know for many years that I could say no. I was afraid to bc when I did say no it was taken from me anyways. Everyone around me saw and did nothing as well. You’re a bad ass bella. Thank you so much for covering this stuff. Also. Once a survivor always a survivor. I’ve found that most men these days are attracted to women who have been abused and they take advantage of that.

I wanna leave this comment here, because I replied to somebody else saying something like "oh, poor Bella, so sad, that this happened to her.. I still condone her behaviour, but now I understand why she is acting like she is.." etc.. And when I replied "who cares what you condone" several people started attacking me for that. The original comment got deleted after I explained where I was coming from, but I wanna leave what I wrote anyways, cause it might change somebodys perspective or make somebody feel heard. This is what I wrote..
I am a survivor myself. And I have worked for many years with survivors. And one of the most hurtful aspects of speaking out about the abuse, is the way others judge and revictimize survivors. There are those, who outright accuse them of lying or saying they deserved it. And then there are those, who seem supportive, but bring everything we do back to the abuse.
What is this about? That she is sleeping around or sexually provocative? But that's okay. She can be that without having been abused. And explaining her open display of her sexuality as a consequence of her being victimized is stripping her away from selfdetermination and victimizing her all over again. It's like saying "oh, now I understand why you are broken." Because women, who are okay with their own sexuality have to be broken. If men act like this, nobody would question, if they have been abused.
My comment wasn't about Bella. It's about every survivor, that has to deal with these kind of judgements every day.
And I don't have to be emotionally invested to share my opinion.

I totally understand her, i was molested by a boy who had class with me, this happed in front of everyone who as around, but when i asked for help to the vice director (a women) the apology was my clothes, "your body attracted him". People need to figured out, that sexual abuse or any type of abuse, happens really close of them, happens in any place, any situation. Unfortunately people choose to runaway of the situation, runaway of the reality of a sexual abuse that was committed by someone that you judge as a good person. Like Bella, i still have nightmares, all my body shakes, i just want to throw up the pain that him caused me, cause he didn't just hurt my body, he hurt my soul. when i remember him faces or him name, the feeling of being used and the feeling that nobody will never loved me genuinely comeback. Take care of the ones who are around you, predators are in everywhere.

It's so sad that so many young girls go through these types of things. I personally have been abused by someone really close and related to me. I never told my parents or anyone and I still act like I don't remember what happened. I always thought that it was my fault and that I'm sick for doing something which I was clearly manipulated to do to that person. Actually today was the day when a really close friend of mine actually reached out to me and shared that she's been going through a similar experience and I actually for the first time in my life, actually told anyone that I've been through that. I couldn't actually tell who was the person doing that to me and my friend didn't say anything either. So I can understand why Bella doesn't share who hurt her like this. After sharing this secret I've been keeping for years and years with my friend, I actually feel like I'm finally not a freak and I'm not alone. I am still ashamed and I still feel guilty and I haven't even told my therapist about it but I'm starting to see that I've been manipulated and it is not my fault. If anyone reading this comment has been or is going through something similar and keeps it a secret, I really advice you to share with someone. You are not alone. We see you. We hear you.

    • @XuiLeeEv
      @XuiLeeEv 3 роки тому +4

It's absolutely not your fault, and it was brave of you to share this even in the comments. I hope you become comfortable enough to work through what happened with your therapist. It was never your fault, never okay, you were never responsible for any of what happened.

People don’t want to acknowledge how many people go through things like this, and that the majority of the time the perpetrator is known to the victim or within the family, not the stranger in a dark alley like people want to think, because it’s unthinkingable that a person’s own family member can do that.

I think it's also worth noting that Bella having an OF doesn't invalidate her abuse story at all. I see victims of SA being stripped off their sexuality way too often. She said it herself that she sees her body as something she has to offer to receive affection, and somehow she gets backlash for being a sexual being - every person has their sexuality, whether they're ace or a child or an elderly person. In her case, when she was already robbed of her childhood, some people want to take away her right to cherishing her body too. Like... sex is a need just like feeling loved or eating. Make it make sense Sloan because I can't.

This is heartbreaking to hear about this from another person growing up being abused. It reminds me of mine and my cousins childhoods actually. Knowing a family member that you have to be around would do things to you and you are too young to understand it's not right. It's sick and they are vile to hurt young children. I'm 42 years old and have just started trauma therapy because quite a lot of these experiences I blocked from my mind as a child. I still had the psychological and physical scars from it but not the memories until now. My cousins even more so and they were so much younger. And we're just everyday people not in the spotlight like a lot of these young girls and boys. My heart goes out to her and all those affected by abuse, of any kind. 😔

I never knew this about Bella and always assumed she was “wild” but I’m also a survivor and never spoke out until my mid 20’s but growing up I was always so angry! Bella spoke about being angry and just like her I was considered a “wild” child by my parents but I remember being so mad with the world during my teen years and I didn’t start a process of healing until I finally spoke out about it. This video made me cry…. I empathize with Bella and you never truly heal because it’s something so traumatic that robs you of having a happy childhood and brings on so many trust issues later in life but I’m sending her and anyone else who has been through something like this lots of love and positive vibes.♥️
