i loved this song with all my heart.. i named Chevy my adorable kitty thats been gone for so long.. now i am 60 years old.. i am no longer that guy who ran on the highways or walked through the dusty streets with Bruce's music but He is and always will be the man who helped me in the good hours and in the dark ones of my whole life and after so many years I still get excited listening to his music and specially this poem titled RACING IN THE STREET…. simply thank you BRUCE!

Roy Bittan’s piano playing on this song is generally exceptional, but in this live version, it really goes to another level. So emotive. It really drives the song.

I love how concerts back in the day were such a strong intimate moment between the artist and the fans without thousands of mobile cameras disrupting that privacy. Artists could express themselves in the moment in a much more raw and genuine attitude. I believe this is why footage from back then came across so powerful.
Hit the nail on the head mate. I much prefer that era. Not a fan of the stadiums. I think his music resonates much better in smaller venues. But them days are now gone.
@@umitt492 One of my favorite artists Andy Shauf tend to do smallerish venues and yeah mate, I don't know how I'd enjoy it the same if it was MSG chock full of phone holding folks. *shrugs*
I'm 8teen yrs old now, an I'm completely grateful to have had the pleasure of knowin Bruce's lyrics.
I'm from Mexico, my father intrduced me bruce's music when I was just a kid and I used to go with him to the baseball park while Born in the usa was playin all the road long.
My father had an older Brother named Roberto, who died at 25, i guess.
My dad was just as old as I'm now back then. He once told me that his brother liked this song. It was the first and main reason i got engached with this poetry
And as I grew up, I started seeing the shadows behind my dad's eyes because of his brothes pass. I'm sure it changed his life.
And as the lyrics goes, i conviced myself the guy who springsteen talks about can be related to my dad and how both of them just needed a ride to the sea an wash those sins off their hands.
This song is probably the one that will be played at my funeral.
I feel like i just wrote it in another life.

When this song came out I on was heading north on I-95 leaving out of daytona beach at about 2am, and it was such a black dark nigh t, and from the first strains of the piano chills ran down my spine. Never had any song affect me such, I got both emotional and on some kind of adrenaline high. I felt like I owned that stretch of highway!! It was such a majical time. Thanks Boss!! Great song
1978 - 1987, there was nobody to touch Bruce in the quality of music he wrote and released.
Agree but I've really come to appreciate his 2000- up material.. as I get older Bruce is on the journey with me and the things that matter to me now.. long live Bruce!!

Watching these older videos brings back so many wonderful memories. Bruce made concerts so much fun. His lyrics are so poetic and meaningful. Even as a teenager back in the 70's, we loved him. His style, his energy, his sense of humor. Those shows were well worth the money. Our chore or babysitting money paid for those tickets back then. Still today he brings it. Who cares what his political views are, even he himself has said some of his own family members don't agree with him. He is a huge humanitarian, and I hope he continues to make music and sing as long as he wants.Not to many of these great ones left. Don't Waste any days Bruce!
His political views and his struggles with depression always seemed obvious to me based on the lyrics he's written. Some people don't pay much attention I guess.
He was a hero to the working class. Then he got mouthy with his liberal spew. I saw him on May 1st 2014 in Tampa. Dedicated it to the communist May Day. Started with Joe Hill the folk song made popular by Joan Baez. I’m perplexed. He’s a multimillionaire and starts off with celebrating Communism? He lost me that night. These vintage videos bring back memories of the Boss! The hero of the working class. I’m not sure what went wrong with him but I still love these older shows. He was the hottest ticket in the world when Born in the USA was released. I lived on the Maryland Shore that summer and it was blaring everywhere. I guess time changes a man but I’m still the same as I was 13 years old. I’m 63 now. Still love the real Boss!

"Keep your politics to yourself "is what I always say when in a big crowd. It just causes problems . I've attended two shows in 2023 and they were amazing. He's still unbelievable as is the band. Folks bitchin about ticket pricing and what not. Come on!! He's not alone, he's 74yrs old and puts on a heck of a show for 3hrs.. I had amazing seats, I could afford them, otherwise I would not have went. That simple. To hear and see Bruce play those oldies again..Yup! I'm gonna go

One thing better than listening to these songs on the radio like we did back in the 70's is SEEING Bruce sing in these live videos. What a treasure,! What a beautiful sight and sound! My absolute favorite musician on this planet. In the 80,s I took the DC metro by myself all the way to a sketchy part of MD to buy tickets to your Born In The USA concert at the RFK stadium. I’m 57 now, chronically ill and housebound for years and I’ve lately been on UA-cam discovering your earlier songs/performances. I didn’t know then how incredibly gifted you were. You help keep me sane! Thank you Universe for giving us this genius. And thank you Bruce for getting in that motorcycle accident when you were 17 so you didn’t get sent away to a war! You were destined to share your “voice”, gift, with the world. A performer. A musician. A poet. An artist. An Angel on Earth❤️🎼

Best song he and anyone has in my opinion, which is definitely fair to debate in fairness. I think Thunder Road, Born to Run, Jungleland, and Badlands round off top 5 (any order). The River (song), Rosalita, and Backstreets probably next on my list after those.

I wish I could have seen the early concerts live. Some of my first records were "Live 1975-85". That was Bruce's best time. And all my favorite songs are on it. Thunder Road, 4th of July, Asbury Park, Badlands, Because the Night, Racing in the Streets, The River.

Saw him and the band in Austin on this tour. Never saw him again til Broadway in May of ‘18. What an evening THAT was. He made a quip about his inability to drive as a younger man: “The man who wrote Streets of Fire and Racin’ in the Streets? Didn’t know how to drive. That’s how good I am!”

Grew up watching street racers at midnight at a small connecting highway in my town. The song is bitter sweet as those memories are long gone and times were so much better.

Great band playing one of the top tunes of the best Bruce album. Note how tight the band is, playing right on as Bruce runs off to switch guitars for some reason. When he comes back out, he's connecting with the audience like he hasn't missed a beat. Hands down one of the top true showmen in Rock.

Wow, just epic, hard to find the words to describe the magic that the GOAT delivers in this performance. But my favorite thing is at 7:30, he looks at Clarence and is just so happy, and then just nails the rest of the song. So cool to see someone so great at what he does, but also so happy to be doing it with his boys, and he sees Clarence and he just lights up, like “yeah, love him, so cool to be here doing this together “
