    Nice operation there.

    This sorting system seems to be safer for the buffalo, Noah. I have watched other videos by some of the ranchers and it seems the buffalo all end up getting bunched up and trying to get into the squeeze chute all at once, resulting in injuries and the little guys getting trampled. Enjoyed seeing this system and glad you are getting more bison for your ranch!

    Great movie once again Noah, you picked up that stick like a Champ and handed it back to Frank. I would promote Frank to bartender next run. Congrats on your purchase and best of luck hauling them home and initiating the heifers into your herd. That squeeze chute has much to be desired, it's different for sure.

    Getting excited to see the heifers come in. I hope the oil spill doesn’t effect your ranch what a mess!! I tracked the bison they finally crossed the south creek, and found the spring with a lot of mineral content. I was wondering if you knew much about the black bison. Are they possibly a different species of bison? They seem to get along, but the black heifer is low on the family tree. They don’t treat her the same. Her calf was gored by the younger bull, so we had to the worst. A guy I talked to says he believes the black bison were to the north and part of a colder climate herd.

    • @BrokenArrowBison
      @BrokenArrowBison  Рік тому

      They’re not any different type of species that I know of. I think it is just a genetic off shoot. Kind of like how some people are Burnett and some are blonde. I’ve always been fond of the black ones. I have one in my heard that is a really nice animal. She doesn’t get picked on at all and she’s in the top end of the pecking order.

    That seemed like a very busy and dangerous exercise. Happy to see the operation going as planned. Happy to see you got more Bison for your ranch. The secret to success is having enough handlers to reduce the need for stress.👍🏼❤🙏🏻

    I enjoyed working cattle working day when my Dad, Grandfather and uncle raised cattle. We'd go to each place and help do each other's, my sister and my cousins. I'm planning to get into bison. I'll be retiring from the Army soon.

    Do bison ever have twins? I've been on the tour of Duffs Ranch, which is about 30 minutes away from Leoti, where I live, and I don't remember that question being asked.

    • @BrokenArrowBison
      @BrokenArrowBison  Рік тому

      Yes they sure do. Unfortunately, the mothers usually only have enough milk for one calf so most of the time they will kick one off to be orphaned. Bison ranchers will do their best to try and save the orphaned calves. Some times it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

    I love your video's! Thanks so much for sharing them with us...But, I don't understand is why put them thru all that..Mama's get separated from their calves! They hurt themselves. That big bull that got stuck...was limping when it was running away! Bet ya it wasn't checked either ..These beautiful creature's have been on this earth alot longer than any of us have been..and they have lived just fine without all the stress of getting wormer,shots,hair pulled out their tails..and have someone violate then by checking to see if they are pregnant or not... But, they done great... other than the poor guy that just about got ran over...Hope he is feeling better... I came across your page a Lil while back.. But I'll be watching more often!!!

    • @BrokenArrowBison
      @BrokenArrowBison  Рік тому

      Thanks for watching! I understand your concern but everything done to them at round up is necessary. I understand your point that they have been living without us for a very long time. The problem is, once you put them into confinement on a ranch there are so many things that are lacking because they cannot get access to them once they have been fenced in. One example of that would be, they have large exposures to parasites once confined and without an active worming program, they will die quickly. I have had this happen on my property and have learned the hard way unfortunately. But without the men and women who help right the wrongs done to Buffalo by raising these magnificent animals, buffalo would be much more rare today. The time spent in the crawling system is one day out of 364 days. They live stress-free except for one day a year.
