A fantastic chute set up. The wranglers are safe,the animals are controlled. You can tell a lot of trial and error went into that. Guaranteed any weak spot those animals will find it. Great job

When chased they could turn back and charge but in panicked mode they could also commit suicide when they rush or try to climb a metal fence..

What a great setup. Many years ago I helped at the Witchita wildlife refuge and and we worked off horses and sure didn’t have facilities anything close to that. It could get very hairy at times. I noticed the prayer before starting. Good for you. Y’all havagudun.
I love my family' buffalo ranch. They are incredible. One of our oldest females, Peaches, is more like a puppy than Buffalo. It feels like she considers me her yearling, at times, and has protected me from more than few of them. Cheers, from SoDak/Southern Black Hills.

Wow, what a great video! I love the fact that the animals are not handled any more than needed and that safety was top priority. Great job. Most folks see a beautiful bison and think it's a pet, but in reality the bison is one of the strongest, most dangerous animals and are usually scared when being coralled. I don't blame them. Just to reflect - brilliant that you are out there taking it all in - another little point of what we found out about the routine - is its very wet weather more chance of having to do it - the best way for an animal to thrive is to let it on the dry side of things. I mean dry feet etc - dry stalls - be specific of cleaning up muck area etc.

Looks like that herding quad could use pneumatic folding long gates on either side of it to expand outward 15 ft on either side when herding the cattle; like a race start truck with the unfolding wings on a standardbred trotting track; thats how they start the race.
@@BrokenArrowBison herding bison is a very difficult job; they are definitely not as domesticated as cows; the quad wings wd have to b very sturdy indeed; and the funnel fence leading into the canal type fence wd have to have a large gradual mouth to it; otherwise the cattle may not readily go into it. but think what a great video that would make with a quad OR an older pickup that had expanding folding wings; you could go to any trotter racing track and examine their race start truck to see how they do theirs up. wd make a very good yt video!!
I just finished my first bison round up. We sorted and weaned. It was stressful and traumatizing and there was casualties (2 calves and one bull). We don’t do any ivermectin or any vaccines. All natural. The animals were all healthy but it was stressful. I know of ranches that don’t wean and I think that’s the way.
@@BrokenArrowBison this Ranch I’m working on is in Northern BC, Canada. 700 head. And all day long now I deal with with bison on the road as the yearlings try to get back to the main herd. It’s a nightmare! I would try not weaning if it were my ranch. I do understand the need to sort cull animals but I don’t know. Must be a better way 🤪. We slaughter on ranch every Friday in winter. Would be nice to have a squeeze chute but just a regular one seems to do the trick so far….

We had a few bison farms around here in Alberta, one had around 800 head, one of the farmers had a 30 panel that he had hooked up to his loader on the tractor to move them in alley ways, I think it might help to put some rubber conveyor belting to cut down on the noise to settle them just a little better
We had a cattle prod on the end of a brush handle. They sometimes turned on you. A quick zap with the prod and that stopped them in their tracks. Even in large spaces you had to be on your gard. They were warse still when they had cove's.
Amazing...definitely a nice coral setup. I like the tub alterations. The bison flowed easily through the system compared to others I have seen. Really good video watched it twice.

Great video, Noah! Some of those bulls were really magnificent. Feel bad for the little guys that get so scared, but that won’t be their last time and hopefully they will get a little used to it, but that might be wishful thinking on my part! None of them seem to like it much!
I think I would at least try to deaden the sound on the chute setup. It has to be adding to the stress of the animals and making it harder to get them to run though. Even just gluing some foam rubber to the outside of the equipment would have to help.

That ranch set up is no joke. Very well organized I love bison meat. Just found out there's a bison ranch in ohio and they have a family owned store run by two brothers called the Bearded Butchers, can't wait to go shopping there. Bearded Butchers are on UA-cam. Thank you for all your videos.
You guys ever use dogs to sort them? I always hated using them for cattle but I think it would beat jumping down in there myself to sort bison on foot. That catwalk design is genius though. I'd look forward to working cattle with a setup like that.
We raise cattle in the central part of Texas. When we pen cattle to work, separate calves etc. we use horses in the pens to separate and cull. I was curious if y’all have used horses to assist in moving the bison into the holding facility??
Personally I have not. Horses are used to round them up often but I don’t know of anyone who uses them in the actual holding facility. Bison are faster and more agile than most horses are. So it would take a good horse and good rider I suppose.

Surprisingly some of the older animals do seem like they get used to it!
I don't know whether the smaller ones get castrated or not.
They do not get castrated.

Few ranchers do but a gentleman from Oklahoma I know uses them. He uses mini Australian shepherds.
