You are one of the all time greats for all things hip, Michael Whitehead. Thanks for your contribution to a vast and ever changing sea of shimmering, reflected light from the sun. In a word, pure 'brilliance' ... borne out of a marriage between divinity and nature. RIP, Davy Jones!

Thanks Atomeyes. Space doesn’t allow for lots. Davy was very affable, his appearance stood out with long hair. There’s a blue plaque in ‘The Star Shopping Centre, Maidstone, to Davy and the Boys. I now play drums in a worship group in my local church. Ive always loved playing since i was 13 .

Michael Whitehead. Dear Joanne Francis thank you for your comments on was it Davy singing on both , I pity the Fool and Take my Tip. Yes it was Davy singing on both recordings. {?Mick White}

This is the first David Bowie original composition ever released.
Alfie Conn Actually, David Jones was originally the lead singer of The King Bees before he was the lead singer of The Manish Boys.
Did he write any of the songs for the King Bees though?
Nicholas Sans Pasty
No, but he did perform as Davie Jones.

There was some of his early work in the David Bowie Is exhibit. I was lucky to see it in Chicago at the MOCA. Flew from LA to see it, it was so good.

this early work is really cookin'!
Jazzy.... good sound for the sixsties! Love it stil...
It seems he was singing about a woman in the sky before he had met her. Perhaps the "tip" was Marc Bolan's tip.
Love this song

But she walks right on by

Gotta get ahead, get a car, fancy clothes
Or she'll throw you right off her hook
Here's the news- you are but one fish in her back garden scene
Gonna make like a shark to be free
Something bad on your mind
Take my tip- get on out
Take my tip- get on out
You can't give all you got to take something back
Before she'll put you right up on her rack
With some others in mind

Also Bowie did some great tunes on the Decca label like `Can`t help thinking bout me` check them out
