  • Caffeine and Machine is a meeting place for petrolheads of all automotive tribes created by ex-Jaguar Land Rover employee and Crank and Piston Founder Phil McGovern in the heart of the Warwickshire countryside. In this video I take the Lotus there for it first long run in a while and get to see what all the fuss is about....

Nice review of a lovely place to spend an hour or two over a coffee or a bite to eat, and you're absolutely right that the place caters to people who love cars, not just people who love expensive cars. The Elan definitely looks at home there, and certainly has more character than many of the vehicles costing ten or twenty times as much. I'm slightly biased, of course, having picked a BRG Elan SE recently. The second one I've owned, and little else puts such a smile on my face - the reason I returned to the Elan fold after trying various other vehicles.
Some very nice roads around that part of the country too, and plenty of picturesque countryside to enjoy on a sunny day with the top down.

    Elise s3, Elan m100 s2, or a Mx5 ND??

Which one would you choose if you could only choose one?

Quite different propositions. MX5 ND is just another new car, but reliable with the most modern dynamics. The Elise is modern too, special and great fun for a blast, but not the best for touring. The Elan S2 is old, and because of that will need more care, but it’s fun to drive, comfortable and has a big boot, and mine has been super reliable for the last 4 years. Over to you… 👍😅

I’d probably go for the Elise S3, it will have its short comings, but it’s the most exciting in terms of a car that you promised yourself. And for a fun car, the heart should always win .

I had a MX5 ND for 4 years (from 2015 to 2019) and I miss it, but I love Lotus, and I dont know...yes, the elise is the best, but is expensive and almost a race car...and the Elan is old, but is perfect for all...

I’ve really enjoyed having mine. It’s only for fun though, not everyday. If you pick one up for a good price it will hold its value too.
