My father was an undertaker. Since I was a child I would go to his workplace and play and run between coffins and funeral urns. My schoolmates bullied me and looked down on my family's work. Years later I met this movie and we watched it together. Now I feel proud of his work, of how he bore the weight of the pain of the families that came to his office and the dignity he maintained to ensure the best ending for everyone even in the most painful moments. This film helped us to reflect on the love and commitment that all those involved in the field put forth. Needless to say, he gets excited every time he hears this piece.
This piece makes me teary and happy all at once. Ever since my dad passing, I been thinking about him ever since he took me to go fishing with him until his very last breathe. The violin makes me remorseful of all the little things I neglected that is now hitting me hard. I just wish I could of hug you and tell you how proud I am to be your son. Thank you Joe for reminding me that.

The right one can make all the difference in how effective the painting is in moving the onlooker. So must a film score move the audience when they watch the movie. - Mr. Hisaishi, your artistry, your soul are true genius. Thank you.
Love the movie Departures and the wonderful soundtrack . So moving and always brings on the tears whenever I listen to this . Kudos to Joe Hisaishi who can evoke emotions in listeners with his music.
