Great job on tutorial/ walk through. I wish more people used this format. I'm doing this later today and this video is absolutly the only good info I've seen on this subject. Thanks again.
Thanks for the video . This was the best instructions in layman's terms to understand how a switch works and to use the voltmeter for continuity testing. I will do this on my 2007 honda fit today since I am having the same exact problems it seems. If my switch is not working I am going to replace the switch instead of the splice fix. But I also might try and save money by doing the splice also. Still undecided. Thanks again
@@pokemonmasterleroy9493 did you change the bulbs? Sometimes people think it's the switch because both lights went out at the same time. Change the bulbs and if it works that was the problem. Good luck
THANK YOU! I knew you were dead on when you described the issue, and I had the same but splice on mine, I think that was the 'recall' fix that obviously didn't work. I am also an engineer and you saved me removing the wheel and everything, just cut the wires, did a Y connector of them and lights work great now! A little long winded but saved me a bunch of effort, thanks again!
I just found this because I went through the same first few steps, but I wasn't sure if I could fix it myself. I think I could do it myself now, but I think I'm going to take it to a mechanic lol. Thanks for this!
This was a cool video. Good job! I'm having the same problem where I lost both my low beams but on my Toyota which looks to be the same concept on my 2002 4Runner and I think its now my switch as well but I'm just going to buy a new switch since its easy to replace it after removing it and doing a quick inspection on it.
Great! I'll try this weekend, because im not sure if my local honda dealer cover this, actually my Fit is from US and now I just bought it in Guatemala. thanks very useful video!
Thanks for the video, worked great for me. If anyone knows. Does doing this bypass cause the low beams to stay on when the high beams are turned on? Would the low beams normally turn off when the high beams are engaged? Has anyone experienced any problems because of this?
This video is helpful, but I think the hack will result in both filaments lighting when in high-beam mode. The ground selection chooses which filament, whereas the hot leads for both filaments lead back to the fuses and the relay. Two potential problems are 1: overloading the fuse and relay, resulting in no headlights, or 2: burning out the bulbs due to the heat of both filaments burning simultaneously (again, resulting in no headlights). Assuming the switch is the problem, you are better off replacing it. They cost between $25 and $50 on Amazon and eBay.
Tried it on my Honda City just. I've noticed that the black ground cable heats up when the high beams are on for a long period. Other than that, it works great!
All you have to do is replace the turn signal switch. New for $50 at rock auto! Don't have to take everything apart. A few screws. Put new turn signal switch in. Done...fixed. Common issue with Hondas.
Didn't work for me, I got a new one and tried it, the high beam doesn't work... It's the cable like he said... My red/white wire also looks like it's had a previous repair job
I seem to have the same problem. The high beam works, but not the lower beam. I started the car and the head lights were on at night. When I got to the Store and as I was driving on the street I noticed that my head lights were off. So I tried the high beam lights and they came on and that is how I go home. Is it possible the low beam lights can go bad not the high beams? if the lower beam go bad, replacing them seems natural. On this video post, it looks like someone accidentally or otherwise, the cable was tampered with.
For me it's the opposite. Low beams work but not the high beams.. I tried a new switch same problem. My red/white wire also seems like it's had a previous repair job
If I replaced the switch (the whole piece) would I still have to adjust the wiring? Or do you think replacing that would fix the problem? (The part is only $30 and looks more reliable to fix than the wiring)
much easier to just find the red with white stripe wire behind one of the headlights and tap a ground into it. eliminates having to take apart the whole steering wheel
I was able to take the switch apart and mess with the internals, couldn't find anything burnt or shorted out. But after putting it back together and plugging it in my headlights worked. Just gonna replace the switch with some other brand since Honda's is the one that failed.
I m having the same problem. I have a 2007 honda fit sport. My low headlights are not working. I want to order the part. What's the name of the part? please let me know asap. thank you
I came across your video after experiencing the failure of the low beams to light. At 2 minutes into the video you disconnect the battery but I have a question before tearing down the steering wheel controls. Each fuse indicates that 12v is available with the exception of the two 20amp fuses. I don't know if those fuses are before or after the switch which is why I'm asking if I should be looking elsewhere instead as we've had issues with rodents chewing wires in the past. Cheers 👍
Hi, I wish I could help you but it's been a few years since I made this video. You'll have to look up where the 20V fuses lead to. Also try to measure it with the car on and off. Maybe there's a switch/relay disconnected when it's off. Hope this helps.
BTW the manual is wrong saying you can remove switch without pulling the steering wheel or lowering the steering column. The dashboard "cheeks" will not allow to do so (but you can do it on older 01-06 civic which is using the same switch)
