Mate, I cannot tell you how valuable this video is for me. I'm learning UI design and I have no idea where to start. I also have self-confidence issues where I feel everything I do is shit. You've gotta keep pumping out content, man, this is my guiding light :'D
I'm working on a biopunk/organic themed shooter for a uni project. I'm gonna steal from Agents of Mayhem. They've got chamfered corners on their elements which works quite well for my project, so I'll be stealing that for sure.
Inspiration has struck! Awesome. Make sure it works exactly for your project, sometimes by changing things like the thickness, border radius can make it a better fit for your theme.
My main menu is pretty standard stuff but all my in-game ui is diamond shaped because it's an ocean game and the shape reminds me of scales. I actually just finished a feedback interaction for the skill tree the other day that has a water splash come out of the icon. I'll probably lean into that more with other ui elements.
That all sounds incredibly cool. How are you going with diamond UI? I Always struggle with the bounding box being a square, so the inspector says 200x200 but the diamond is only 180x180. Tough stuff - but awesome if you pull it off!
@DarkDesignUI just basic 45 degrees and scaling the bounds to the artwork for the icon. Nothing really ground breaking since this is my first go at this stuff. That Rivals UI is badass though. Thanks for doing this video.
only thing i would have changed is the profile being a tab instead of having to click on the profile icon, mostly because all the menus are already bunched up next to each other i feel like you might as well just have the 'Profile' tab snuggled there too.
This looked like it was probably going to be a very interesting video, and at 3 minutes it should be very easy to watch. But I stopped at 30 seconds because all the yelling got really annoying. Yelling once is fine. Two is pushing it, but okay. Three I'm out and leaving a dislike. I'm sorry but if you're making an informative video use informative language. Stuff like this belongs on shorts or tik tok, with all the other brainrot.
I love this entire video. Just fantastic. I don't know my design element yet, but I'm definitely going to spend some time figuring it out.
100/10 video. Less than 3 minutes of pure valuable design advice.
Thank you! I find the more you know about something, the quicker you should be able to explain it.

Yeah the UX of some of these menus is pretty borderline passable. Is the profile a social element or not?

Fair enough. You do you - there’s some nuggets just after that I promise 👌
Skip to 0:35 there's actual good information in the video that's presented in a reasonable way.
