I do, but I think that even though the specific events of the song never happened How To Dress Well, he understands the feeling behind the lyrics, and loved the song so much that he wanted to sing it himself. I think it's a sign of great respect to R. Kelly and the song, tbh

The lyrics are great but it doesn't matter it's not his life, the fact that he can relate and makes us relate to even tho he comes from a different place makes it more deep imo, it reveals the more universal and human side of the song. Both versions are great anyway but I prefer the intimate feel.

i often find myself wondering this: how many people who enjoy performances like this and how to dress well's other material actually enjoyed the source material he so often references and incorporates into his music? (like r kelly's original version of this song, inoj's version of "love you down", etc.) i find that how to dress well and i love a lot of the same music, and yet i just don't get his music at all.
