This is Michael Matsuda from the Martial Arts History Museum. Today, Sifu Douglas Lim Wong is considered the leading authority on the history of kung fu in America. Head of the most dynamic team of kung fu competitors such as James Lew, Robin Kane, Carrie Ogawa-Wong, Jim Brown and a host of others, they dominated the tournament circuit in the mid 1970s. It was Sifu Wong that played a major role in helping his brother Curtis create Inside Kung Fu magazine. Sifu Wong is an accomplished author of a number of books, hundreds of articles and has graced many magazine covers. Inducted into the Martial Arts History Museum in 2002, he continues to be the biggest advocate of Kung Fu today. What are your thoughts of Sifu Douglas Wong?

I was completely blown away by the professionalism of this piece. Kudos to all! I now know much more about Douglas Wong and the seminal role he played in the advancement of Kung Fu in our modern society and films. I can only wish I had been in California when I was young to learn from him and others of his kind. Fascinating! This is real Martial Arts History.

Didn't Doug Wong have a small studio on Van Nuys Blvd, Van Nuys just below Vanowen St back in the late 70's? I had a friend that went there. It was small and upstairs at that time.

Yes that was our second studio after leaving the Panorama City studio on Van Nuys and Roscoe. We then move to the studio on Parthenia Street for 8 years and then moved into the 3000 sq. ft. studio on Roscoe Blvd known as the Body Factory. It was a studio put together with my student Steven Lambert where we taught action acting to many celebrities.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I'm surprised that Bruce Lee himself didn't train under this gentleman?
You have Dan InSanto there, why not Bruce Lee?

At the time, Sifu Ark Y. Wong, Sifu Doug Wong's teacher, was the primary teacher of Kung Fu when Bruce Lee was alive. I have no doubt that Bruce either conversed or worked out with Sifu Ark Y. Wong.

His senior students workout at our Panorama City Studio weekly (1973). Bruce was filming Enter the Dragon at the time and was going to visit our studio when he return to the States. Daniel Lee had invited Bruce to come down to met everyone but he died before he could make the trip. I have met Bruce a few time before he took off to Hong Kong and known Danny Inosanto, Jerry Poteet, Ted Wong ang and many others for years.

Harry Wong is a family friend and not my blood brother. My two brothers are Curtis F. Wong the publisher of Inside Kung Fu Magazine and Frank Wong. I am the oldest in the family.
