  • Hawaiian Kuʻi a Lua (the warrior art and practice) was almost lost to modern knowledge. Sometimes called the Hawaiian martial art, oral histories say lue was only practiced by the elite warriors of chiefs and rulers. Even in early Hawaiian times, only certain people were allowed to learn and practice the custom.

ʻŌlohe Lua (lua master) Charles Kenn is often credited with having revived the lost art, agreeing to teach five dedicated students the ancient practice. To this day, the art and lifestyle of lua is steeped in secrecy, protocol, and tradition. ʻŌlohe are selective about who they will teach, and many are reluctant to share information with those outside of their schools.
