Little tidbit: the modern german flag (not inherently in the same order of colours) is actually older than both the imperial and the no-no-german flag as it was used by the national-liberal movement during the revolution of 1848 which sought a unified german state.
Nali Germany 😱
Really? I thought it started with the Weimar Republic.
And this national-liberal movement got its colours from the Lützow Free Corps, an army of volunteers from all over Germany, fighting against Napoleon's armies.
Which might be a reason why everytime Germany shuffled off a dictatorship it turned to these colours :D
Wanted to say the same thing, danke :)
Even before that I think. Versions of the flag have been used at the Hambacher Fest and might have even been used at the Wartburgfest
3:33 Latin people used to call them "barbari" as they didn't understand them and thought they allways said bar, so to talk with them they allways said "barbarbarbar"
So you're telling me it's a predecessor to terms like "Ching chong"...
Huh. Nothin' new under the sun after all!
They were spitting bars...
I'll see myself out
Thats why when actors want to create a background noise that sounds like many people talking, they just mumble: "rhubarb rhubarb" (in English ofc, but it works in other languages too, for example the Czech "rebarbora rebarbora").
@@nelsonmeier7861 Oh, dem Bars!

Fun fact:
The modern german eagle is sometimes inofficially called Fat Chicken due to his chicken like non agressive look.
And yes, this was in purpose
The Prussian Eagle looked more terrifying than the Fat Chicken
Fun Fact Addition: Fat Chicken specifically is directed at the version of it hanging in the German Parliament.
There are even multiple eagles, There is obviously the fat chicken for the federal diet, but also the more edgy version of the federal council, the one for the federal president (which looks like the one for the council, but with eyes), the one for the government, that is a bit smoother than the last two but looks like being in pain and angry at the same time, and the one for the constitutional court that looks like a smooth hexagon that is lifting.

Also, a Rubik's cube is called "Hungarian cube" in hebrew, which might also be referenced there
But why?
Did Attila himself ratify the cube?
Rubik’s not rubix
@xX_doggy_Xx no its not where did you even hear about this information, even on the rubik's cube box it says "rubix"

Ovens are in Fahrenheit outside temperature is in Celsius, length is in m and height is in feet, cheese is weighed in kilograms while people are weighed in pounds, if you ask someone in Canada how far away a place is they won’t give you the distance they’ll tell you how long it will take to get there.
6:11 the black, red and yellow in the german flags actually most likely doesn't have anything to do with the hre, but ut wad the colour of a military uniform and later used by german revolutionaries
9:33 You read that comic before tbh

Being Canadian means knowing your height in feet and inches, your weight in pounds, but having to do math when someone gives you a speed in miles per hour or a recipe includes any measurement in ounces.
That’s… specific
Yeah- when you wanna know how long a table is you use meters, when you wanna know how long a person is, inches and feet lol

4:03 This reminds me of when my grandparents were kinda arguing with a family member over who should pay the bill some time ago.
My grandparents insisted that they should pay the bill. The family member wanted to pay the bill instead.
My grandparents ended up winning and they went on to pay the bill.
Funfact: The German Soccer Kit is acctually based on the Old Imperial Germany flag: White as a Base with Black and Red accents for the home and Black and/or red on the Away-kit..., I have no clue why
The imperial flag looked dope i guess
4:18 this is true. Im asian and my dad almost got into a fight with one of his brother-in-law over who pays the bill
6:50 as a Filipino we use both measurements either Metric or Imperial but it depends. Except for the temperature we use celcius
Im also a Filipino, and this is kinda true
There should be a time capsule with a bunch of country balls and an index explaining who and what they are
4:37 yes even for more western Asian countries I am from Bahrain 🇧🇭 and me and my friend never stop fighting on who is going to pay the food 😅

07:36 The Fahrenheit scale was literally invented in Amsterdam by a Swede, U.S. Americans literally adopted it from Europeans and then Europeans call U.S. Americans weird for still using it.
Actually Celcius was invented by a Swede and Fahrenheit was invented by a German
As a Canadian, from what know of our measuring system, we mainly use Imperial measuring for cooking, weight, and length of people, where we use Metric for vehicle speed, fuel compacity temperature, and most of our construction, but that can go ether way depending on who you work for as far as I know.
Ya as a Canadian I can say we are hybrid
As a canadian that's accurate 6:43
I can confirm aswell
I'm Canadian, and the measurement system we use in different situations is interesting. Air temperature is C, but the pool is in F, and cooking is in F. Speed is in km/h, but for distance we often use miles colloquially, especially here in the prairies where our roads are all on a mile grid. Construction and materials are all in feet and inches. Weight is in pounds and height is in feet and inches, except for on official documents like a driver's license.
It's pretty interesting that you always know both systems. Fascinating!
Bro did not expect to find another Tyson from Canada. I challenge you to a super smash bros duel
Yup the imperial measures system is like cancer. It always pops up somewhere just when you hope you got cured of it.
I feel like air temperature is the one thing where Farenheit is really good. The whole "0-100" is within survivable and decently comfortable range. It doesn't matter if the oven is 250 or 450, you won't like it in there anyway.
1:25 it is also because in Hebrew we say Hungarian cube
0:52 I want the reason why Drew decided to put the Philippines flag up there 🇵🇭👌
Because someone told him ig
I just wanna say that the zoomed in picture of Israel ball with the music playing is the funniest stuff ever somehow
7:22 you do know that the Imperial System is British not American, and that the UK still uses the Imperial system for a ton of stuff.
And here I thought the moon was orange because of Mexico...
I did not expect watching a drew durnil video at 3:08 am

the collors of the German Flags are the Collor of the resistence in Germany in The Napolionic Wars
I love it drew thanks for teaching me
Germany: i want bird
USA you liked those as a Nazi but sure
Japan: i changed
USA: what?
Japan: shade of red
The black red golden flag goes back to around 1800 and is connected to the revolution back then (1842). It symbolizes unity and democracy.
The color originates from the uniform of the Lützowschen Freikorps (which was designed to be cheap).
Keep it up Drew love your vids

i was planning on doing this thanks for doing it for me
4:07 Look at the Philippines flag... it changed from the normal flag to the war flag (inverting blue and red). Now *that's* commitment.
Central Europe is basically HRE + Poland + Slovenia + Hungary - Netherlands and Belgium.
I would also include Germany more in Central Europe than in Western, despite being from western Germany. The west mainly refers to a political ideology, but since the iron curtain fell, there is no need between this separation anymore.

Literally the only way to stop my father paying for a bill is to have a word with the waitstaff at the beginning of dinner- and even then, you have to wander off in like the middle of dessert to pay for it.
as a cuber, that wooden Rubik's cube was the prototype for his puzzle, he was figuring out what it was first and then added color

1:55 Central europe is what we are. It really is the best fiting name for this area of europe. The lands that once were HRE. UNique culture and politics from both east and west.
6:06 Rot-Gelt-Schwartz goes back a lot further than that. It’s been a symbol of pan-Germanism since ‘48.
there’s a sunflower smiling in the flower pot at the flag change

From what I've heard, the red disc on the Japanese flag, known as the hinomaru, is supposed to represent the sun, which is pretty significant in Japanese culture. Yes, Japan has some issues with denying what they did during WW2 but I don't think the flag has anything to do with that.
I see it as more of we don't talk about what Japan did and in return Japan didn't constantly complain about the USA firebombing and nuking civilians. Not saying it's right just how it seems to be.
Well, it's not so much what Japan did as what the *Japanese government and military of the time* did. The average civilian really has nothing to talk about
