Brandon stresses the fact that weather often changes before or during tournament week, and having the ability to quickly adjust his strategy is key. For this, he uses the Water Inflows, Wind Effects, and Water Clarity maps.
He uses the Water Inflows feature to find creeks that have higher than average inflow rates from recent rain. Those areas shown in purple/pink have heavier runoff which creates water movement. This attracts more microorganisms and bait fish to those areas, and ultimately some hungry bass.
The Water Clarity map is also one of his go-to features because water clarity can change quickly in a short period of time from factors like rain and wind. Bass react to different baits and colors depending on the water clarity so it’s crucial to know what clarity of water you’re fishing in, at all times.
Also, as Brandon says, “Wind direction plays a huge factor on Grand Lake.” It’s important to see what points or secondary points the wind is hitting the hardest. It can help you find new spots quicker and as Brandon says, it makes him “more efficient on the water.” You can even use the Wind Effects filter to look up to 7 days ahead or 2 days in the past to help formulate your plan.
