Julius Erving was a total beast!!!! I was at so many games in the 70s and 80s, and the parade in 83, one of the greatest teams ever assembled.

I still believe this era of the 76ers is the most celebrated one, that is because Dr J is simply an icon of the game. The cast was awesome with their own basketball personalities, Mo Cheeks, Bobby Jones, Darryl Dawkins, Lionel Hollins, Steve Mix , Henry Bibby and Caldwell Jones are complimenting Erving's leadership. It was just too tough that the Lakers duo of Kareem and Magic had their number.

I attended, watched or listened to every game that season. The Sixers of the early 80s are my all-time favorite sports franchise.

I regret Doug Collins was injured during the Sixers run during the 80s. I'm not saying they would have beaten the Lakers in those championships.......but it would've been different!!! Man can you imagine a backcourt of Cheeks and Collins!!!

Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics Rivalry was the best in NBA their peak was during the Dr J Larry Bird era those 76ers teams of the late 1970's - Mid 1980's were some of my favorite all-time teams reason is the Doc Julius Dr J Erving making every game win lose or draw very exciting

Even llnd round duel bet. those 2 arch-rivals in 1976-1977 season which went full VII-game distance w/Sixers prevailing 4 games to 3 and advancing to that season's Eastern Conference Finals where they'd go on to defeat Rockets in 6 games to earn berth in World Championship Series

Cannot thank you enough for this treat! 1979-80 was my senior year and going to Sixers games was the best. In fact, one of my mom's graduation presents was tickets to a game in the Finals. It was Game 4! And I got to witness Doc' spectacular move! Thinking of it now, knowing we got see so many Hall-of-Famers in that game: Doc, Kareem, Magic, Jamaal Wilkes, Mo Cheeks, Bobby Jones...cemented my love for the NBA. What you have uploaded is a treasure for us Sixer fans!

The distinctive voice of John Facenda who could make reading a phone book sound like something extraordinary!! Someone posted Doc at 6’6- WRONG! The man stands 6’7 with a 7’3 wingspan and was unusually gifted with flight of fancy and walking on air!! There were times when Doc sacrificed too much of his game for team play - not a wrong decision but the 76er coaches Gene Shue and Billy Cunningham did not appreciate his gifts like his coaches Al Bianchi and Kevin Loughery of the ABA… still Doc did great in spite of them!

As a kid I witnessed Doc up close and in person at Nassau Coliseum in the ABA- charity games at MSG- and with the 76ers in NBA. I interviewed the man for my college radio station. I know the difference between 6’6 and 6’7 - Doc 6’7 (inch taller than Jordan). Doc was 3 inches shorter than former NETS teammate Larry Kenon (6’9)… as he was with former 76ers teammate Bobby Jones!
I’ve seen most of the greats up close from Wilt to Shaq to Walton and Bird … a legit 6’10. At 6’1 myself I know heights.

This video displays exactly what the problem with the Sixers was AND STILL IS TO THIS DAY..instead of been a Dr J team , like the ABA Nets with many other good players they always seen them selfs as a great team with many good players one of them was Dr J..sad state of affairs their office carried that curse of incompetence all the way through!

Sixers that 1979-1980 season were making their llnd World Championship Series appearance in 4 seasons (just 3 seasons prior, 1976-1977 they were beaten by upstart T'Blazers in 6 games as they saw 2-0 series lead go by wayside). This also marked lst, their 3 World Championship Series duels w/Lakers in IV-season span in early-1980s (1979-1980 thru 1982-1983)
