  • Probably my best day sight-casting bonefish on light spin tackle. Using a new Flig design, the Firetip Mantis, this flig proved irresistible to a heap of quality fish throughout the day.
Fishing with Rizan from Chasing Island Tails and Sydney sider, Eric, at the Cocos Islands, it was on from our very first casts. A few big trophy bonefish to begin and then the rest of the day was spent catching your typical 500-600mm Cocos Island bonefish. Unbelieveable fishing.
The ability of the larger fish to dump a spool of braid in the blink of an eye, and then do it again, is an amazing testament to their power and stamina. They truly are a world class sportfish who are more than happy to wolf down Fligs presented on light spin tackle.
If you ever find yourself at Cocos looking to tackle a bonefish, give Rizan from Chasing Island Tails a call. He caters for Fly and Spin (Flig) anglers.

Nothing else like them on the flats. Just a bundle of muscle with a big propeller. Not as tasty as KG’s though! 😄

The wind in the go pro is a bit annoying, but the bonefishing is world class.

Team Daiwa Black Paddlefish rod, Shimano Stella 3000, 16lb braid and 20lb Fluoro leader. Probably gonna up the leader to 30lb next time though.
