This was super helpful for me! I replaced the cam cover / rebuilt the oil pump and had the exact same problem. Thought for sure I had one cam off so took it all apart to double check and they were spot on. Turns out my was a combination of a weak condesor and leaking intake. Don’t we all over look that basic sometimes?!? Great video. Thank you. Cheers from the States.
I use a propane torch to heat the electrode of the plugs up red hot and all the carbon will vaporize off. I had a 37 back in the seventies, just bought a 42 this year, probably go through everything next winter since it runs pretty well as it sits. That one sounds good now. Thanks!
Great vid, thanks.... Last spring my Wla developed an issue... 2nd gear only surge forward release ....repeats so long as it's in 2nd.... the coffee shop experts all hark'd... bad 2nd gear.. so I had the gearbox rebuilt.... got the bike back together... with a new clutch... my old clutch was ok... fellow said there really wasn't much wrong with it... a bushing and shims.... fired it up... same issue..... this is 2nd gear only.... so now we think the Carb E tube may be given us grief.... isn't old motorcycles fun.... 😎
Always nice to watch someone who knows their stuff. So once the points let go of the rolling paper, then you knew you had the right gap clearance? Is that how that works? Also, what were you spraying around the engine and carbs when you were looking for air leaks? ( I assume that's what you were doing.)
Yep that's right to the rolling paper. The spray is called "Supa Solv" - Ash talks about it in this episode ua-cam.com/video/_Uf1aX5z-TE/v-deo.htmlsi=sAOyDrxGyq8TF_B1 (around 6.20 mark)
Typical mechanic stuff you check everything but the one simple thing. That's how you know you got a good mechanic when hes over thinking everything because hes used to the other issues besides the most basic ones and only after hes checked everything else out does he realize he over looked the simplest one. BUT HE FINDS IT and you're vehicle is for the better because of it.
i'm not proud to say, but i put the main jet / emulsifier tube in upside down, the motor started and ran, sluggish top end but i figured it was an old bike; doh!.
Just when I thought your videos couldn't get any better, you raise the bar again. Incredible work chaps!
Much appreciated!
