Hidden Civil Rights History: A Conversation with eMjae Frazier

Welcome to Hidden Civil Rights History, which explores often overlooked history in the Washington, D.C. region. My name is Gregg Ivers, and I am a Professor of Government at American University.
This video features the work of two of my students, Julia Lewis and Caroline Pirrone, from one of my Spring 2024 courses, The Athlete as Political Activist. Julia and Caroline, rising juniors in the School of Public Affairs, interviewed eMjae Frazier, a member of the United States women's gymnastics team and rising junior at the University of California-Berkeley, for their class project, "Balance Beyond the Beam: A Gymnast's Reflection on Race and Identity."
