Having small cleanup tools are a HUGE motivation in my preschool class. These are all good tips, and please help your children develop this habit starting at a young age. Instead of the bin, we had the trash bag. If we don't clean up, everything goes in the bag and it gets thrown away or donated. It was a scary enough threat that we cleaned pretty quickly.
That doesn't sound positive though. Earning back toys from the 'bin' encourages good behaviour. Just threatening to throw their stuff away is rather negative.

When I was about 6 years old I use to always leave my room in a mess and so my mother found a way to motivate me to clean it up by playing this kind of game where I was Cinderella and in order to go to the ball with my prince I had to clean entirely my room. This always worked on me 😂

My mom would play chocolate chip or popcorn pickup! She would set a number (usually between 2-5) and everytime we picked up and put away that number of items we would get a chocolate chip or a few pieces of popcorn! Cleanup always went quickly :)

You can try to do a scavenger hunt. Write a paper to each kid saying what you want them to pick up and put away. When they find that object they have to put it away and cross it out. They have to finish quickly and you can set the time depending on how much stuff you put in the list for each individual kid. Another of picking up blocks is to set the timer and make your kids throw each block from a far away distance. They have to tjrow them in the bin without letting them go outside. Who ever collects more blocks that did not escape wins the game. (i have the green sand clock) lol.

When I was young, my mom would get frustrated if I never cleaned my room
One technique we use in the daycare is to beat music. We will put on a favorite song and see if they can pick up before the song ends.
