The one thing I'd change for next year is the start time. Start at 1 or 2 pm and if there's too much rain or lightning, it at least gives a bigger window to get the race in. Wouldn't have made a difference this past weekend but who know's what next year's weather will bring.

2:36 and 6:35 are a ringing endorsement for the Metropolitan Water Reclaimation District and the civil engineering efforts of the City of Chicago. Built on a swamp, its amazing drainage is possible at all. The single file restarts, not throwing the stage cautions made this a much better event IMO.

His experience on streets js extensive. If it had been an oval circuit the result may very well have been quite different. Even Shane said that after the race. I am certain he would never say that yr drivers are are rubbish and I'm also certain he doesn't believe that. He is a humble man but a fierce competitor. He will always be fast in whatever he drives. We don't want to lose him from supercars but I'm sure he would love to go back to the USA. If he does I wish him luck as I believe your drivers are the benchmark racing ovals. Chicago was a world class event. Congratulations !

There's no need to race ovals in the rain. That's just stupid. In oval racing, the average lap speed is much higher than circuit/street courses and you are on the edge of traction for much longer portions of the track on an oval. But yes I agree for any circuit/road/street course, they should absolutely race in the wet.

Back to Suzuka like in the 90s, and a track like the Melborune Street Course would draw near 400k in attendance surely, especially with a few Super Car drivers in the field.. and alternate with a country like Brasil who has a big stock car culture as well.

Yes. Why? It was entertaining. First race I've watched in I can't remember how long. First NASCAR race my wife has ever watched. Are street courses the answer, not at all. But drivers playing pinball didn't hurt the entertainment factor. No stupid stage cautions to create boredom is a big reason. Different strategies moved the cars around (see no stupid boring stage cautions). Some people had more difficulty adapting to a changing track surface. It was like watching NASCAR from last century - it was entertaining. My wife couldn't name a driver if her life depended upon it yet she enjoyed sitting down and watching it. Caveat, we PVR'd it so fast fwd through the commercials that didn't have the racing insert. Also in Canada so we get the same three commercials every ad break.

NASCAR is catching up to regular everyday drivers. We all go to work everyday regardless of the weather, rain, snow, ice and everything in between. I had an 80s HO Z-28 with wide oval tires. Impossible to drive but just had to do it to get 25 miles to work. NASCAR should get with the tire program and SVG showed the way regardless of the conditions. Loved the race.

Not a fair comparison by any means. You drive cautiously when there’s rain/snow, going below the speed limit, keeping more distance between cars, etc. Saying this as a Chicagoland native. Can’t compare that to 40 cars flying past each other at 150mph+

Stock car racing use to be about who could build the fastest car , and endure driving it 500miles half out of control. They were always heavy machines with smaller tires than open wheen racing machines. They push in turns , steering right to go left. Way to much horse power than able to stick to the track.
I feel Nascar died when they started restricting horse power.
Only racing I can stand to watch are super lates, and sprints.
Already told myself , if you go to a Nascar race , you will probably not enjoy yourself.
Another thing, that always kind of struck me as odd. Why do people really go to road course races. If you can't see the whole track? I like being able to see what is going on everywhere. Not just see the cars go by .

Why does NASCAR allow ringer drivers to come in and compete with all of the full time drivers that are there everyday all season to compete for the championship points and cheat fulltime drivers out of points? Does SVG get win points for this race and guarantee a place in the championship? I would like to hear from others on this issue, IDK.

Something I wish NASCAR would look at is the shorter race. When a driver realizes there's not much time to get it done. The level of racing goes up. This race all on dry full length would have been boring. My fear is they run it again next year without the rain, full length, and it becomes a snooze fest. Denny going on and on about making it a perfect dry surface, ugh. Yes driving a car on dry is easier. Please keep the element of surprise alive but letting things be less then perfect. Something we all toon in for is the surprise when something doesn't go perfect.

No one says that you run races in dangerous wet conditions but with street races it costs so much to block of the streets so drivers will have to get used to racing in conditions that they would not normally do. I am not a big fan of street circuits' as its like racing in a tunnel but if it brings people in to watch then it will have to be run with or the sport will die. If guys want to see how to run in the wet just follow Shane or any other supercars drivers or European drivers in the race and they will show you how.
