I have a 60 gallon tank and was considering getting this filter, but as you said early no one ever made a video on the operation and performance of the filter; and for that I thank you. I don't think the water flow is that bad. Lots to consider.
Not sure if you got it yet, I have a 65 gallon planted and its fine. Nothing blowing all over the place like i feared when I first got it. If you near a pet smart they have it for 200 in store
I have just bought a 72 Gallon tank, up from 20 gallon so the guy at Big Al's suggested I buy the C-530 which I feel is too big for my tank. However, I returned the C-530 and bought the Fx4 from PetSmart (ordered online and got 15% off if I pick up in store). I couldn't be happier...the Fx4 is so quiet and feels more rigid and tough. You guys are great for posting review videos as it helps beginning like myself understand what works best.
@@realtorkhurana I totally agree, old videos like this gives beginners a idea of what works & what they might like for their aquarium. I love watching videos like this for ideas with my 75 gal, from gravel to filtration & fish, plant's decoration, drift wood, rocks it's a awesome thing to learn & when you retire you play with fish tanks.
Even though this video is 5 years old, I do wonder if you still have the same set up ? I wouldn't mind the big hoses I could work around that, I like the angle of the out put What kind of pull does the INTAKE have ? would it be safe for danio's "small fish"?
I bought this a few weeks ago and it stopped working after 2 days. Turned my water cloudy and left particles at the bottom of the tank that looked like sand. I did a water change and emptied the filter, checked the impeller and found no noticeable issues. After that it worked for 2 days and now it’s stopped working and my water is cloudy with particles again. It’s never continuously ran. Could it be the biomax? I can’t figure out what else is causing this or why the filter won’t continuously run. I know it’s supposed to shut off every 24 hrs but it’s never even ran longer than a couple of hours.
well done on the video!! great source (nobody thought of doing a video on how the flow-rate for the output goes!!) im gonna buy the Fx4 for my 55 gallon tank with some butterfly goldfish in it, but I'm scared if the output is gonna be too much for them. If I remove the two output heads, is the flow force lesser?
I had a 406 in my 55. I upgraded to 75gal with a fx4. This filter does great circulating the water but not so much for the mess. I got a little tiny submersible turtle filter I found at Walmart and I put that in after I vacume and water change... all the stuff that gets stirred up... that little filter picks it al up in a cpl hours and I remove it. It was like that w the 406 also. I was considering getting the in line clarifying system. Or maybe it’s just that I need to add a layer of something super fine in my fx4. That could be. The guy at KG aquatics set up his fx6 that way. Those two bags... he used for a fine layer in the sponge area right in the red tray on top. And I think he said it did pick up the finer stuff instead of spitting it right back into the tank
Anyone searching for why the fx4 is weak you need to remove any polishing pads you may have added. That slows the flow. Also try removing the black filter pads if that doesn’t work. I ran into this problem recently and fixed it.
3 months ago I bought a fx4 and now it stopped sending water to the aquarium, it reduced the flow to 0 I tried to contact the store and the river but the answer I have is that I need to buy a new one I am very upset and I do not recommend this canister because I lost it too much money with something that doesn't work.
We got an aquarium from someone who couldn’t take it away. We have the fluval fx4 and as my mom was wiping the sides, she bumped the input hose and one of the hoses pouring out water stopped flowing. Then the next one stopped. The filter is still making noises but idk how to troubleshoot it. Do you know what’s up or where to start looking for help?
Is this turned on the strongest amount or less or middle or what? I have a 125 Planted tank with Rainbowfish and Corydora’s and I’ve noticed they’re not too crazy about strong flow so I need a big filter but I want something that the lowest flow setting is actually low. I’ve noticed some filters even at low they’re still pretty strong. Thanks a lot! And awesome turtle and tank and video by the way! Take care! God bless!
The Fx4 would definitely do it. But the fx6 probably would be perfect for a 120 gallon. So either way. But I know the fx4 would filter your tank nice. Mines been going for 5 years with not one issue. I'm amazed.
I’m having the same issue with the fx4 water flow on my 100 gal. Both valves are vertical. Canister has water and I can barley here the canister running. Input is 3” from the bottom and output is about 4” below water level.

Nice video. Was thinking is upgrading to a FX4 from 3 AQ50 HoB filters, on my 55gal tank. I like my AQ50's, they are rated for 200gph, but in reality, it's probably much lower. The one FX4 is like 700gph, and is probably getting all of it. I have 5 goldfish in there now with plants/decor(a big ship they sleep in), and I hope it wouldn't be to much circulation, which I don't think it will be. Also, I hope that FX4 isn't loud, like humming or anything. My AQ50's are very quiet. And the FX4 would need to be on the floor out beside my tank cause of size, so no hiding....I wonder. Any input would be appreciated.
Cyberhawkzz You will be amazed how quiet it is. It's so big you would think it would have to make alot noise. But it amazes me everyday how nice and quiet and smooth it runs.
Well I bought one! It's awesome. And your right, very quiet..amazingly quiet. Also not a problem at all for my 50 gallon Goldfish tank. Thx for the info.
@@savageadventures27 It's working great so far. I've got it about 4-5 inches under the water, with one angled towards the back glass panel, and one aimed towards the front (slightly up for more top water agitation). It doesn't seem to overpowered at all. My fish(5 Goldfish, about 3-6 inches) still have plenty of still water on the other side of the tank for resting. And I do have the values fully opened as well. These filters work great, very quiet...surprisingly quiet. Which was one of my most concerns.
Red valve on the inlet and outlet at the top. All the way open is full flow which I think is a bit much for my 75g. I have my outlet about halfway. You will also want to close these valves when it’s time to do maintenance/cleaning.
SCOGO 416 I just upgraded to the FX4 from the 406 on my 55g Saltwater reef tank. Love it so far. Water flow is so ridiculous I don’t even need to run my powerheads.

American aquaristics are just horrible. Those fake plastic plants do not replicate the real enviroment of these fish. I think that these animals deserve better.
The fish don't care if they are fake or real. What makes a good environment for fish is clean water with plenty of filtration and plenty of space for swimming. I have a couple of planted tanks, love them, but my silver dollars can't be in a planted tank because they eat all the plants and my Africans tear everything up so its pointless to do live plants. Besides, look at video of Lake Malawi, no plants. My 180g tank was set up natural , just rocks and sand, looked great but after a while it got old. I put some Java fern that I propagated and some anubias but they just got ripped apart. We put in some high quality fake plants and it looks great. Fish don't know the difference. I do agree live plants are better and help with water quality but in many instances not at all practical
