- We joined Kate Shortman and Izzy Thorpe from the GB Artistic Swimming team for a day of their intense training, from gym work to flexibility and pool work. Mark and Heather even got the chance to show what they were made of and perform their routine - how well do you think the guys got on?

How do you think you'd get on if you tried Synchronised Swimming?
Wow.. probably drown trying 😂. That looks insanely harder than a tri 😬
It would probably break me beyond repair. :D
Twenty years ago I was a very active freediver: the Canadian Synchronized Swimming team would be just wrapping up when we'd show up to the pool to train, and their breath work blew our minds. I hear people say “I'm having trouble holding my breath between strokes”, or “don't hold your breath when you're swimming or you will induce stress” and I just laugh. You want to know what REALLY induces stress?! Running out of air instead of HOLDING IT!
Sometimes we share a pool with one synchronized swimming squad and these girls are just amazing. The agility, the stamina, the strength, the technique, countless repetitions in order to make a routine perfect...everything is just amazing. They swim with ankle weights!?What!?🙂Masive respect!
This was amazing to watch. Attention always goes to the more popular sports, so I really enjoyed the behind the scenes prep and practice the sport demands! Now to have James give it a go! 😂 love the content!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Something totally different from GTN! Thanks so much! Mark and Heather were real sports for even attempting some of those maneuvers!
As a beginner swimmer from learning to swim ten months ago to now doing all strokes to preparing for first open water swimathon. This is the most respect I have for swimmers who do synchro. Today I tried a simple leg above water for 10secs, honestly I just couldn’t. Totally blown away by the pros
This was a very fun video to watch. Impressive the endurance and grace that synchronized swimmers have!. Respect!
As a person who plays the sport(on an easier level 😅)it’s so fun watch the sport get some attention
I enjoy it one of the best sports ever.
As artistic swimming I love when people see our sport hard and interesting ^^
What a fun episode! Great job not only on taking on the challenge but giving us a window In to the sport! I had no idea so much went into it which more credit to the athletes as they make it look so graceful!!
The Olympians are inspiring women. Great video as I never realised how hard synchronised swimming is. As well as thinking about kids and the sport, perhaps they’d think about inspiring Mums and Dads to have a go as where they go the younger generation follows? Great job GTN.
Brilliant video. As a older triathlete I always try and do more yoga and stretching. Heather and Mark would be an amazing mixed team in the pool.
So fun and inspirational! Thanks for putting this together. Great work Mark and Heather!
These women are amazing! ✨⭐
much respect to all synchro athletes !
This is a very cool behind the scenes kind of video, just an incredibly hard sport. These athletes certainly don’t get enough credit. 🤘🤘🤘😎😎😎
Fantastic video. Keep up this sort of content!
I see a New sport coming. Artistic triathlon. First synchronised swimming, then artistic cycling, finally dancing.
Brilliant !! Well done . Swimmers rock my world ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Thanks for sharing this, very cool to see just how much work goes into the sport.
Great video! Keep it up!
Fun to watch and interesting!
A great clip and their work ethic is very impressive.
My muscles ache just thinking about how you two must have felt the next day after that strength session
wonderful, innovative video 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍
Loved this video ahah awwwww
Most definitely the hardest. Of course I maybe bias as I coached it for almost 14 years. The analogy we used to tell people to help understand how hard it was, is to try and run 400m whilst holding your breath. It’s just amazing to see the grace, power and elegance of what can be achieved
Amazing respect for the women in this sport.
I used to assume they were doing these moves in shallow water. They make it look too easy because they're so good (and swimming blind with no goggles for big performances).
I am 10 and I just started this September!
I can't imagine how much core strength they have!
Definitely.. A lot !
I don’t know, if you made the video trying the uci acrobatic cycling, that looks way harder ;)
Great watch. Sculling skills could be smething alot of swimmers could use
Amelia Smollet Does Synchronized Swimming
Heather > 🦦 Mark > 🦦 🤣
It requires stamia as well.
How come there are no male synchro swimmers?
There actually are! Pioneers such as Bill May have been paving the way for decades - I highly recommend watching some of his routines and even Russia has Aleksandr Maltesev. Unfortunately at the moment men still cannot compete at the Olympics but I believe LA 2028 will be the first mixed or male event. There are even two boys in the GB Junior team, competing internationally and working towards this Olympics.
I understand that the are fit, but I still think it's a silly sport.
Why is it a silly sport?
@@freya5161 it doesn't seem functional. I would say it's more of an art. Like ballet.
Lmao just wait till you try it. im an artistic swimmer and our 3 minute routines are literally more tiring than 5k runs
It's time for the Global Swimming (Syncro.) Network
