I was living in southern CA. in the early 80's, but I was too young to know about anything other than He-Man or Star Wars. I'm thankful for the ability to watch it here.
It was great to see the younger fire breathing (when appropriate), but the now 80 year old Harlan still will lay hands (in the form of the written word) on those that defies what he himself thinks is best. Several weeks ago, Harlan suffered a stroke, but I am told that he won't stay down and is gaining more ground everyday in the L.A. hospital, with a portable typewriter, his keen mind and his refusal to surrender to those things that mere mortals like us can't deal with.
Harlan is always a wild card, but his writing is impossible to argue with. Mick, was the Take One roundtable you did with Cronenberg, Carpenter, and Landis also for the Z Channel?
Mick Garris - Do you think more of Harlan's stories and original scripts will get produced now that he's gone? Also, are you going to direct again anytime soon? Love your work.
Dead Pet PTSD It’s hard to answer the first question with anything more than “I hope so”! As for the second, I’m constantly directing, most recently as one of five filmmakers behind the anthology film, NIGHTMARE CINEMA, which I also produced. It will be out in the coming months.
He was offered it when he was younger at some party. May have tried. Didn't care for it and was annoyed by the stoners that kept at him to try it. Ellison wrote all this wild stuff straight and sober. Let that sink in. He never did drugs or booze. An occassional pipe but he eventually gave that up to. If ever there was a role model....
You know you are old when you reach up to adjust the tracking on the VCR and realize you are watching youtube.
I still remember seeing the ad during its original release and the priceless tagline: "A Boy And His Dog. Rated R."

Thanks, all. Much more to come.
Love Harlan
Awesome. I can watch/listen to Harlan E all day long and not get bored. Thanks for uploading this one.
Thanks, David. Glad you're enjoying it.
Mick Garris was quite good. He asked a question and got out of the way.

Fascinating. Thank you.
I love your phrase 'knife-kill' movies. Ir encapsulates so much of what passes for horror these days.
6:11 describes film bros and their favorite movies like fight club and starship troopers
Ummm, this was recorded in 1979.
Those are good movies tho
WOW! Thanks for posting this Mick! This is a great piece of culture history. Good quality video too!
Great! Thanks for saving and preserving this tape (or swiping it from the station, whichever, or both, applies). Gotta love Harlan.
I’m glad stuff like this is preserved
This is so cool. Thanks for sharing this, Mick.
fabulous conversationalist.....
Mathew Mercer, a man through time and space
I watched that on Z Channel!
RIP Harlan
Oh the glory of VHS tape, looks like the tracking went a little wonky there in a few spots.

Mick, was the Take One roundtable you did with Cronenberg, Carpenter, and Landis also for the Z Channel?
Not for the Z Channel, but something I put together for Universal when I was handling specialized genre publicity for them.
4:02 A.M. SPOTTED!
Mick Garris w/short hair!

Thanks Mike! When was this interview done?
👍
What's the song at the credits?
It's a piece of library music that Z Channel used at the time. I don't know the title.
@@MickGarrisInterviews No worries then, thanks!

Guilty as charged.

To "Hope for better things" isn't pragmatic given human nature. Hope its self is a false emotion--its one of the ways we delude ourselves.
wonder whats in the pipe?
Probably black cavendish, that seems to be the type of blend he preferred from my understanding.
@@christopherkelley5875 No way he didn't pack some reefer in that thing every now and then

awesome. Z Channel has its own documentary, and I highly recommend it. I'm peeved that I never got to watch/subscribe to the channel years ago.
Careful that Ellison doesn't go legal on you.
