  • We are out again exploring now that spring is here! Today we went and explored the old McMillan gold mine that's located in Sudbury Ontario.
The mine was closed in 1937 and the main shaft went down around 875' and produced about 10800 ounces of gold.
We explored all the foundations that remain of the old gold mine and uncover whats left of the mines history after almost 100 years from the mine being open.

this mine was operational about when Long Lake Gold Mine ( near the Fielding family grounds - Wavy lake near Tilton and Eden townships ) was active.. the latter is currently being probed by local Nickel District politicians who are working the Arsenic story ( for the better good of someone ). ..... we are what we eat .... All of these townships surround the reserve land of the Whitefish tribe. Ironically ( if i have my story right ) Cecil Fielding was granted an honorary Chief title during his dealings with the Whitefish group.... this story is so deep... wonder who McMillan was ? The whole thing may have started with a surveyor named Albert Pellew Salter who was exploring the area in the 1850's for the British Canadian Geological society... The Salter baseline later served as a railroad trail to Sudbury and so on .... be careful what crap you believe....

It's a good 45 minute walk in. Follow the old AER rail bed in then turn left onto a small quade trail. Copy this into google maps 46°08'24"N 81°47'50"W you can see the 2 waste rock piles on google earth. Id recommend going in the fall or spring bugs out there get really bad! It's a fun adventure for sure!

the power of the internet... you guys are in or near Mongowin township which is named in honor of the son of the Whitefish Reserve Chief who signed the 1850 Robinson Huron Treaty. The son was active when the likes of Clergue was building the Manitoulin Island connection railroad to Espanola ( mainland ) as he was moving towards owning Lake Superior Shipping and the Algoma Steel giant. If you look at a map you will see a creek leading towards Charlton lake in Curtin township. The area is to Widgawa Lodge which was to the story of Churchill and other global leaders who met here during WWII. Curtin was Australia's leader at the time. So much history in this area of Ontario. A few miles away on the North Channel of Lake Huron you can cross into the Georgian Bay and reach the old Killarney trading post. ... too bad u didn't have a drone to take aerial pics.... deer looked perty tasty... !!!
