- Hey Good People,
This week I had a 2014 BMW X6 in the shop. I diagnosed it and the coolant wasn’t flowing because the water pump wasn’t pumping as it should.
In this video, I try and walk you through the process of replacing the water pump. The only reason why I say try is because the spaces are so tight! My wife tried her best to get good footage and angles so you guys could see.

Nice job! Like BMW's just wish the waterpump had easier access, just insane how tight a spot BMW put it.
Technical thing. 10mm socket goes on 6 mm nut or bolt. Nice job otherwise.

Hi Alex,
I have a 2014 X6 as well. I'm losing coolant 1st slowly but I have to add every 2 days or so and it leaves a stream after I drive it on the passenger side right around / under the pump area. the pump was wet at the back, covering the metal shield but the hoses seem ok, no other leaks? The Pump also bleeds properly but the loss of coolant is noticeable. Do these pumps have history of leaking or failure? Thx in advance and the video was great, I don't have a lift, a jack, jack stands, a creeper, as well as being old school all the way down to no power tools... LOL! A progress in the works
Shouldn't it be called
"Coolant pump" Instead of "Water Pump"? Especially when Alex the car doctor says don't put water in the coolant system except 4 flushing & finding leaks 🤔🤔🤔
Hi Alex, very nice video. Is the procedure the same for 2013 X5 35i? Do you replace the water pump when it fails or based on mileage as a preventive measure? My X5 has a little over 50k miles on it and I am debating if I need to replace the water pump for peace of mind. From what I read online, it could fail any time moving forward. I just don't want to be stranded on interstate. Any advice? Thank you.

And that gentleman is how you end up paying double for labor. Thermostat is basically attached to the pump why wait for it to fail🤦🏾
Absolutely, but when you’re running a shop, you can only do what the customer authorizes. No matter what you suggest, they do what they want. Some customer have a “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it mentality.”
