I know this is late, but to answer your question, there is a protein called vanilloid in the free nerve ending. Things such as temperatures above 120 degrees F will cause this to protein to open and an action potential occurs. Because this protein has caused the action potential the signal is sent to a part of the brain that interprets the signal as a pain signal
My skins is cold and my clothes hurt,,but I feel,like my skin is on fire...I have read about allodynia,but my warm hands on my cold arms makes me feel better. I feel I may have thermal allodynia. I have tattoos,did this trigger the immune response? How do I fix it without a Lyrica or other drugs..and why does it knock me out that I need to sleep it off? I have had MRI..all good. Had nerve conduction tests..all good. Had biopsy on my tattoos, sarcoidosis type was the result on one and allergic reaction on another.
Evening Dr John you seem to have grown exponentially since uploading this video. My question for you is; are there any pain receptors on the blood vessels within the brain? Had aneurysm M1 MCA clipping 4 years ago and have endured pain every day since.
When you are intolerant to cold,why is it called peripheral neuropathy when in fact the thermoreceptors nerves are transmitting the temperature?.In other words they are doing what they are suppose to do.The disease is not in the thermoreceptor nerves but somewhere else.

Well thats the trouble, they tell me they have never heard of anything like it before? and my neurologist just hit me on the knee with a hammer to see if my reflexes are normal. I am trying to obtain an MRI scan to see if they find anything. I also have Tinnitus. I somehow think they are related, in that the nervous system is over active. Bloody annoying it is. Thanks for your reply, i wont give up looking for answers.
@@videomaster8580 I assume you have excluded obvious things like scalp infections? It is also true that lack of vitamin Bs can have adverse effects on the nervous system.
@@Campbellteaching I think my diets fairly good. I also take a multivitamin. I suppose I could also take B complex supplement as a backup, and a test. The one thing I have not had tested is a scalp infection. The scalp looks ok in my opinion, although a little flaky. Perhaps I can ask to see a dermatologist. Thing is i feel embarrassed keeping going back to the doctors with this problem. Also its very depressing having all these tests and getting nowhere. Im in the process of trying to sort out a private MRI scan, as the upright scanner they use allows different positions of the spine/brain and therefore can see the spine/neck under compression. Thank you for your interest John, if you can think of anything else please let me know.

No its not receptors, thy are used by contraction of the hair effector muscles, usually when cold.
