    Loved both the Crosby and McDavid videos. Couldn't really get enough. Thought your tutorials were fantastic. I am currently in the process of trying to put together some workouts for my 16 year old son and any workout advice you could put together from these two videos, and any others would be great. Thanks again.

    If you notice also the big key with the head up at that 2 minute mark crossover he is calling out the numbers on the coaches hand. There is a lot to unpack on that.

    Love the perspectives on the why's and how's. You might find the documentary about how McDavid and his specialized team innovated his own astonishing injury recovery a couple of years back. It's pretty cool, but Connor continually challenges and breaks all kinds of barriers.

    While all this is great, how do kids with great talent for learning but are low income get that type of training. Hockey in Texas costs sooooo much. Coaches charge in excess of $80 an hour, some over $100 an hour. I know some is related to ice time. But some kids can't because they just don't have that kind of money. Off ice comes easy, but you have to get on the ice to practice the off ice.

    • @hockeytraining
      @hockeytraining  2 роки тому +9

      You're right in that families with money to spend on ice time and coaches definitely have an advantage... but that hasn't stopped hundreds of NHLers over the years still make it.
      There are plenty of things you can do off the ice (training, rollerblading, stickhandling, playing other sports) that will go a long way. And then from there try to get on the ice whenever you can (some cities have "stick and puck" which is cheap ice to go practice your skills).

    Finally !!!! I found this video where a guy KNOWS what he is talking about concerning Connor McDavid and and, analyzing techniques, training and progress. All these other yahoos getting on youtube talking about Connor McDavid don't have a clue about hockey, and just want to jump on the bandwagon with the best skater in the league. Who cares what they say or think ? This guy knows his stuff and all the others could learn something if they watch and listen to him !! Absolutely loved your video !!!!

    Recovery is the biggest factor to success.
    If your body is consistently drained it will not perform at its best.
    If you're playing high level hockey as a young person, you won't need much gym time during the season.
    Just some fine tuning exercises and strength training.

    • @hockeytraining

      Honestly, most of them are the same so the only difference is which brand you want to support. I've used the Heavy Duty straps at Slingshot for years consistently going over 400lbs and they still do the job: markbellslingshot.com/collections/belts-straps-support/products/heavy-duty-lifting-straps

    Good point on not going for the true 1RM. US swimmer (7 medals in Tokyo) Caleb Dressel said the same... no less than a set of 2. Dressel is super explosive and has an insane vertical.

    Flexibility. Flexibility = speed and speed = power

    • @davidmckercher892
      @davidmckercher892 2 роки тому

      Not Quite. Speed is a product of force production. Athletes that can produce greater force, in theory will be capable of greater speeds, show me a fast athlete and Ill show you a strong athlete. Athletes need to develop adequate ability to produce force, this needs to come with attention to things like flexibility and mobility, but with proper coaching that should not be an issue. But athletes NEED to lift weights and lift heavy weights for a few reps. I know lots of insanely flexible people who are slow, and weak. You cant out smart physiology and physics.
