If a location is good enough for 1 trap, I always set 2. Since you have a 50% chance of catching a coon, skunk, or possum in fox/coyote sets. I would put a pipe and trap at BOTH ends of the bale. Any caught animal attracts more. As long as you have both traps on drags, your bale should survive doubles!

Hi, love your content. I have a field with several old roundbales set out in it that I can trap. Do you think I could do a set similar to this and just use the old round bales? Thanks!

use a cable as a slide wire and you don't have to looking for your catch.

Could you please answer my question about using the duke trap that I left on another video?
How do you use a non certified trap?
I know the shedule 2 traping regs aren't in force yet but provincial regs say the same as the next mandated trap list- at least here in Ontario.
Maybe i just don't understand the regs?btw love that set, looks like you use the same pioe for that as you use for dog proofs on a tree

this is taken right from the NB hunt and trap guide
"Trap testing and certification is ongoing for other furbearer species. There is no requirement to use certified killing traps for mink or to use certified restraining traps for species other than bobcat and raccoon. Please consult the Fur Institute of Canada (fur.ca) for more information"
so here in NB there is no requirement to use certified legholds for any species other than bobcat and raccoon, these sets in the video target coyote and fox, so any trap sufficient to hold the animal is legal. a catch of a raccoon or bobcat, would be considered an incidental catch.
      hope this helps

@@NBWildman Thanx for the clarification -Ontario says things very different.
Since this is Fur Institute of Canada I expect it says the same for you-
"Although the traps listed in Phase 2 are certified for the following species and trap categories, the year of entry into force of the obligation touse only AIHTS Certified traps has not yet been determined. This date which could vary from one species to another, will be known at least 3 years in advanc.Until then, traps that are currently legally permitted can still be used.Check with your provincial or territorial government to confirm regulations to trap uses in your trapping area."
"It is illegal to use a leghold trap that has two planar steel jaws less than 9mm in thickness which come into contact with one another over their full length when the trap is sprung, for trapping wolf .coyote, bobcat and fox. However a person may trap a species of fox using a leghold trap(shou;ld say restraining trap?)smaller than a Number # (#3) or a trapor a trap that has 2 planar steel jaws less than 9mm in thickness which come into contact with one another over their full length when trap is sprung.
Lynx may be trapped with certified leghold traps."
So I suppose it means any offset trap is allowed and any rubber jaw trap is allowed as well as the Canadian certified list of traps until the phase 2 of the certified traps become law, provided the jaw spread is limited to 18cm(7.09 inches on land and 21cm(8.27 inches)in water-another spec in our regs?
They also say we will get 3 years notice prior to the certified traps becoming law.
Yes raccoon, wolf,Lynx, bobcat and beaver are already regulated to required traps for live capture.
I have a few types of dog proof not certified and I tested them with a fish scale and all versions have exactly the same spring strength(same spring) and dimensions. Some are a lot more economical than th certified versions but didn't go through the certification process and pay the fee
thanx for the reply it clears up how to decipher government talk-I only bought certified traps other than some of the dog proofs I have and wasn't quite sure how to decipher the fox rule or like I asked about the traps you use-thanx again.
