I just ordered one new in the box dose anything need to be done to it before I can hook it up to my cb radio that already has been turned down to two watts?

I have the 2950 5 watts carrier, swings to 18 watts in to the above linear amp. I turn the power down on the 2950 to 2-3 watts and get the same 300 watts as you do. My swr is almost flat. The r is zero and the I is zero. The meter shows 54 ohms on the mfj 268. I am using hustler 2, r m 11s in a dipole horizontal configuration. I am using 15 feet of 8x. The problem is I can key down for 30 seconds and the heat sink gets warm. 30 seconds on and one minute off. The second time I do the same but the linear gets a little warmer. The third time it gets hot. THe forth time its really hot and stops transmitting power. The meter lamp comes on when I key the mic. the radio works fine. If I wait for 5 mins then key down the linear works as it should. Is there a safety feature built in to save the transistors from over heating? I do not have a fan mounted. Any ideas? Thank you!
I would place an SWR meter between the radio and amp to see if you are getting any reflect from the amp back into the radio first. Thanks for watching.

I use my 2950 right now to drive my straight 4 pill. Till my driver comes. Dead key 100 swing about 450ish only with about 45 watts of drive lol.

Its ok on the PEP side but the AVG or RMS is way off compared to a bird.
