For those who weren't around back then, Chael did indeed get the next title shot, which he won. He then defended his belt several times before retiring with a perfect, undefeated record.
3 different weight class world champion in middle weight champ he beat Silva then in light heavy weight he beat Jones and in the heavyweight he beat Fedor..what a GOAT
I like Chael cuz you can tell he a straight up business man. He'll talk mad shit before a fight so he can sell mad tickets and bring eyes to the sport, but at the end of every fight, he never shits on his opponents. He gives credit where it's due and he goes about doing his thing. Respect.
Straight up business man? The guy was found guilty of a federal money laundering when he was in business! He's a terrible and crooked business man. And a drugs cheat. Great entertainer though.
I don't care what the book he wrote says. He admitted guilt in court. So that, by definition alone, makes him guilty. It was clearly proven he paid a kickback while he was a Republican politician to some shell company that his mother owned over some dodgy housing deal.
@Jack Beanstalk I thought the same but he said he'd fought 48 men and won every round. But this was 2012 so was that record legit back then? Or are people looking at his record from today and judging it against when the interview was taken?
I admit, the first time I saw this guy, I was sure I would hate him. The more I listen to him, the more I wish there were more fighters like him. He is cocky as hell, but he is honest and straight forward.
+Taj ThiaraComedy It effects everyone differently. Some people take a single blow to the melon and are never the same, others can take a beating and function throughout their entire life. It is overall best not to take blows to the melon if possible however. I personally knew two top Boxers who were punch drunk, it is beyond sad to be around someone like that in person.
That was one of the most honest after-fight interviews ever. I don't know why more people don't understand that, win or lose, if you maintain your dignity and show a little class it goes a lot farther than the event itself ever could. This is the reason Chael is still so popular (as well as Bisping).
No. A man can be brave without being a 'Hero.' That is a special word that's become cliche, its true meaning nearly buried under modern misuse. 'Very Brave' is enough.
+dougodude101 I am not into the fan expo nonsense. However I talked with a guy who took his son to one of the UFC expos in Vegas. They were late in arriving and the place was closing up. Chael saw them at the door and demanded they be let in. He signed a Memorabilia for the mans child and talked to them in a genuine tone, everyone else just walked away.
The majority of ufc fighters were college wrestlers on scholarship and unlike college football there is no real "professional wrestling" like there is pro football so these guys value the education they receive as college athletes more.

One of my favorite Chael interviews of all time. Real, honest, insightful, and with just enough "Chaelisms" to make it fully entertaining. Truly one of a kind.
Fuck this guy gives a good interview when he is post fight, he's relaxed and not doing a tired schtick he actually shows how charismatic and intelligent he is and reminds me why i liked the guy. At Middleweight in his prime he was easily a consistent top 3 guy.
Bisping is a very different person outside of the ring and interviews, he is like the British version of Chael, they both talk crap but it sells fights and it's funny to watch
I think they also have different styles of trash talking. Chael is of course more of a WWE heel character while Bisping has more of a authentic, British humor (or at least to some people can appear more authentic). That said I love both fighters and both are very funny.
I've never watched this fight but have nothing but respect for Sonnen. I love seeing how fighters react after their lose/win acknowledging their weaknesses, good sport.

I told the guy recently “hey I see why you liked all that MMA stuff.” I thought this guy actually took himself seriously and that he wasn’t basically playing a bit of a character. He’s hilarious
Always funny when people don't understand the "never lost a round thing". He isn't lying. At this point in his career, he never lost a single round of a fight that went to decision. He was always very good at scoring points. He only lost once in his career to a decision I believe and that was well after this.
