REFURBISHED - Kone Monospace (Ecodisc) Lift @ Gateshead Tyne and Wear Metro Station

- The lift is finally back open after refurbishment! The refurbishment was done by Kone.
During refurbishment, inside buttons were replaced, outside buttons may have been replaced but left on original button panel, new indicators were installed and the voice was updated. The lift still runs using the original ecodisc motor, although is probably smoother following the work that was done.
The panel lists the refurbishment date as 2022, when in fact it was just done this month in 2023. The install date is also listed as 2003 but I am sure this lift was installed later than that, around 2009.

I may actually have the last videos of these original. Got both early January then returned a few weeks later and the bus station to concourse lift was off.
Yeah maybe you do as I filmed them both in November but the work was delayed until this year so you filmed them after me!
This is not a bad refurbishment at all, and good they have kept the original motor. Do you know where I can find a ‘Your attention please’ clear voice from the station announcements?
Yeah this is a good refurbishment. The buttons and indicators did need replacing probably as they had faded and the indicator on platform 1 had stopped working. The motor is still good though and they did do some mechanical work last year so it's all good now! It will be good to see some other lifts get done, especially Haymarket as that one looks worn out with all the indicators stopped working and buttons don't light up anymore. I don't think i have a clear recording of that and I have not seen one anywhere. I might be able to get one at some point though.

interesting update, its good that kone is still the contractor. interesting they've switched to an LCD indicator, can tell by the background it's coincided well with the new metro trains due to arrive
Yeah it is good that it is still Kone. I like all of their lifts on the metro network. Those Schindler barriers from my other video must have just been in the station already from escalator work. Interestingly, the barriers on the bus station lift don't have the Schindler logo on now. It will be interesting to see how the LCD indicators last, they do look good now. The dot matrix ones are quite nice too I think but fade over time. This lift looks better now as the indicator on Platform 1 has been broken for a couple of years so the new one was needed!

Yeah it's good as they haven't made any unnecessary changes but have updated things which had become worn out like the old buttons but kept the same design which is nice! I like the new screens too!
They modded this quickly
The other lift here was being done while I was up Newcastle. This one was started after I believe so pretty quick.
@@TheUKTransportCollection Yeah this lift was modded quick. It was closed for a couple of weeks in November when some behind the scenes mechanical works were done and then closed again from start of Feb for fixtures replacement. Can't remember exact date started but was pretty quick. Not sure what has happened to the bus station one. Maybe the engineers were brought across to get this one done as a priority or maybe there is a behind the scenes issue there as that one is closed still.

That's bad luck! There will hopefully be more you can see soon! Monument Eldon Square exit lift is next! Also Gateshead Bus station and then more are starting mods next week!
