I can’t thank you enough for sharing your incredibly detailed and super helpful video on the herringbone wall! I purchased an entire pallet of wood at an auction almost 3 years ago and it has been in my garage ever since. I got such a great deal on it, but my husband threatened to give it away if I didn’t do something with it soon! I can’t blame him - his truck is stuck in the driveway because of my 1250 sf of wood 😲 I knew I could do something amazing with it, I just didn’t know how to start … until I watched your video. Now my guest room has an amazing “art piece” as a feature wall. It took me a while because it is a 12’ by 9’ wall, but with your amazing guidance, I was able to complete it! I am especially thankful for the suggestion to pre-cut the end pieces then mark the cut with a pencil. I have since done the wall leading down to the basement as well (not herringbone, but not just straight up and down either). I have only used about 1/3 of the pallet of wood, so time to start giving it away! Thanks again - can’t wait to take a look at the rest of your videos.

Thank you for this! I’m in the middle of doing my living room wall and your video helped me feel SO much more confident. Your idea of cutting all the 45 degree edge pieces THEN marking where to cut the straight line is brilliant.

I'm so glad it helped! And that trick saved me a lot of time and a lot of miscuts!

Is the board being cut in half by your center line? Or just the corner of the board? It's tuff to tell in the video because you can't see the line. Thank you!

Hello, I just came across your video, how did you determine how many pieces of wood you needed for the entire wall? I've never done anything like this before so I want to make sure my measurements are correct before I buy anything. Thank you

I used 4x8 sheets of underlayment so I calculated how many sheets I would need to cover the area with some to spare. My wall was around 8x10" so I bought three sheets of underlayment and it was enough. You do need to have quite a bit of extra because the angle cuts around the walls does lead to some waste.

Can you specify what wood you got?
You said underlayment, but I can’t find what you mean? Did you cut plywood or did you find pieces already the size you wanted?

Yes! I should have given more details on this part. I used sheets of RevlutionPly from Lowes. It is underlayment that can be found with the plywood and in my area is only $15 for a 4x8 sheet. I cut it into strips using a table saw and then cut it to length with a miter saw.

What length strips did you cut the 4x8?

      I believe it’s called poplar

Hi what is the width of the strips?

The strips are 4 inches by 24 inches.
