IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PICK UP SOME SLIP BOBBERS AND HELP THE CHANNEL OUT A BIT IN THE PROCESS I HAVE THEM LINKED IN THE DESCRIPTION ABOVE ☝🏻 Tight Lines Everyone I hope you catch a MONSTER!
Heck yeah!! 21 minutes of straight information!! No hoopla or bull, just straight to the point exactly the info I was needing! Thank you
Very much a beginner here, a more experienced fisherman suggested using a slip bobber and I had no idea what he was talking about. So that's what brought me here...
This is great information presented in a way that was easy to understand! Will be trying Thank you!
Right around 13:20 talking about crappie suspended at, let's say 12 deep and the water depth is 20 feet deep. If you fish deeper than 12 or even at 12 you may not catch any crappie. Crappie are looking up not down or even straight ahead. They come up from underneath their prey and suck them in. It would be better to set shallower and work your way down a foot at a time until they start hitting your bait. Just didn`t want any new fishermen missing a chance at some good crappie.
I've used slip bobbers on small bluegill, then used them for bait under a much bigger slip bobber for catfish. They're one of the most versatile pieces of fishing tackle.
Great information on how good of a tool slip bobbers are. Quality of a slip bobber is also very important on keeping it working for you well. (Brass grommets) With using crawlers on these setups, keeping them in a cooler to stay chilled makes for much more lively bait and helps me out fish neighboring anglers on shore a majority of the time.
Excellent video. Thanks for posting. This is by far the best I’ve seen on the subject of slip bobbers.
Good presentation! I do use slip bobbers for certain applications but will expand their capabilities as shorebound depth gauges. Thanks again, tight lines and fair winds.
They can be a pain when they aren't cooperating with you, but he's right it is the most precise and best method to use.
Really great video mate. Never understood how they worked
The greatest thing about slip bobbers, is if you lay them horizontal in the water, depending on where you place the split shot weight, you can detect the slightest bite, and even up bites from Crappie. The most versatile piece of my tackle I have.
Never heard anyone get cocky about bobbers. F'n Love it Bro!
I saw them using this and i tried it. found out i was not doing it quite right. watch this video and now I know that i can do it better.
I have the same bobbers.. can't wait to try..lots of helpful content
It's funny I have been fishing for about forty-five years , and this IS the year I am going to learn how to be more specific in how I fish . Thank you Dave
No problem! It is the never ending puzzle that draws me back every time!
A friend and I caught a really nice trout just a few days ago using this technique. The dock we fish at is notorious for getting people skunked but we were able to find them thanks to the slip bobber : )
Thank you. I have only ever used fixed bobbers. Never tried slip bobbers as I didnt understand how to use them. This video made perfect sense and I will be picking up some probably tomorrow and giving them a shot.
This will open up a whole new world of fishing options! Good luck bud!
great explanatory vid and like how you are not just sitting in the office talking about it but also showing fishing clips throughout
Glad it was helpful!
What I like about the slip bobbers is you can pin point cast very easily & you can set your depth to where you want w/ the stopper that you choose to use - string, rubber football, 2 hole & 4 hole dogbone type. I like the straw/string ones but I watched a video where the creator of the video liked the 4 hole dogbone type. It seems you have to try them all then evaluate which one is the best. Happy slip bobber fishing! Thank you Dave for the slip bobber video!
About a month ago I started using slip bobbers here on the SoCal coast off of the rocks. Works great here, too! After a few tries I'm consistently getting Opaleyes, rock wreese, halfmoons, and others. Now I'm the guy on the rocks people are watching catch fish. It's awesome! One difference from your video versus what I've been doing is I use a swivel and a lighter leader so when I get caught on the rocks I don't lose the bobber. (Happens with the tides changing the depth and rocks you can't see in the surf). Thanks for the video!
Thats the same thing I have done for river rigs in the past! Good to hear its helped so much! Tight lines bud!
Great video man,.. Going to go out and try slip bobber on the Petenwell headwaters or maybe the Rock... Not sure yet which one.
Thank you very much for education me about how to using the slip bobbers
As a casual shore fisherman surrounded by reservoirs, you've made me pretty excited. Your method of profiling the lake bottom looks very useful. Thanks.
This is exactly how I learn new waters from shore! Good luck and glad I can help!
Thank you brother
Very good video, informative 👍🏾 think I'll be trying this Maybe tonight or tomorrow morning. It's about to get really freaking hot here in Oklahoma. The lake I'm planning on try is deep right off the bank, like 3 to 45 or deeper right off the bat, or so im told. Walleye, hybrid and catfish are the main fish in the lake.
This will be my first go at a slip bobber rig
This was a gamer changer for me THANKS!
Will this work on salt water? This has been the best video on slip bobber I have ever seen.
I don't see why it couldn't? Probably would work best shore or pier fishing.
Thanks for the slip bobber tips
Hello, you don't trim the excuse line of the slip knot once it is on the line? I use nail clippers and trim the excess string off the knot.
Thank you for this information
I understood better than before !
Thank you so much for this video. I've tried to use slip bobbers and never could figure them out. My one question is the different types of stops. I have the little bead and today searching how to use a slip bobbers I've now seen 4 types. Every video seams to use a different type. Maybe you could do a video on the different types of stops. Anyway, thank you, your video was the best!
These will be the best out of all of them! I hope it helps 🎣

Thank you
Excellent video!
Very informative. Thank-you from North Bay Ont Canada.....
Been adding these to my collection from large to tiny. Working out well.
Really should look into wobble bobber they work awesome. Another great video.
I have seen them and they do work!
Slip bobber is the best!!!! I have 3 rods with different presentation. One with a crappie rig that i catch a variety of fish.one set for UL fishing for gills.the other is just a gold eagle claw hook with split shot for minnow
The options are endless!
I use slip bobbers in anything deeper than 2 feet. I setting a bobber deeper than 2 feet with a standard bobber! On the other hand I have yet to find a descent bobber stop that always works! Tying a knot in tbe line never fails but when you move you have to cut the line and start over, unless going shallower!
I make my own bobber stop knots and they seem to work good!
@@DWSOutdoors do you have a vid on making bobber stops?
Not yet lol
@@DWSOutdoors alrighty, there's one of your next tackle tip Tuesdays cause I know I'm not the only one who has slip bobber knot problems!
Its actually pretty easy but I always mess it up so we will see lol
great video. no extra blah blah blah. right to the point. great explanation.
Nice job explaining all this! I’ve used slip bobbers a lot as well. In SD we are allowed 2 lines, so spring water fishing i’m usually casting a jig, and have a bobber in the rod holder I made for a more still presentation (a lot like you would ice fishing).
ALWAYS Capitalize on the extra rod/deadstick!
This is a GAME CHANGER
What bobber would you recommend for fishing trout in a small lake?
Fishing Nomad depends on the size of the trout but normally they are very finicky so you would want to go with whatever size is the lightest you can use
Yes explaining how to use a split bobber and yes I'm going to go out and try this now on fishing using a slip bobber technique that you explain to me so thank you thank you very much have a nice Fourth of July
Glad I could help! Enjoy your 4th!
I've gone down a slip bobber YT VIDEO rabbit hole and none of the video creators have really addressed the question of: What type reel to use with a slip bobber? I'm guessing that spinner reels are basically THE only reel to use with the slip bobbers, right? The others, baitcasters & closed spinning reels seem like they would get clogged/ backlash if you tried to use the slip bobber knot. Am I correct?
I use the closed spinning & baitcasters regularly and do not own (or have ever used) a spinning reel. Correction, I have used (in the past) a spinning reel and had nothing but problems using it. Am I out of luck concerning slip bobbers?
@@thomasbedard1692 I think if you use a Bait caster you can get away with it but you would have to be diligent about trimming your tag ends down on your slip knot to a manageable length to real up in your spool? Otherwise most people just have 1 or 2 Spinning setups just for slip bobber fishing!
I enjoy your videos and the tackle tips
Thanks! I hope they help!
Great video 💯
Another great TTT!!! 👍👍
Thanks! Hope it helps put some more fish in the boat!
How to rig a slip bopper with a swivel?
Sick video 👍👍👍
Wine cork works just just as good as anything
I would appreciate it if you could tell me if they work in salt water fishing .
I am not 100% sure if the brass grommets on these corrode in saltwater? Otherwise I don’t see why you couldn’t use them?
Do you put nightcrawlers on the jig head or straight hook
@@markrainone6831 both! It depends on what they want and how I want to fish that day 👊🏼🎣
What is the brand and name of the small panfish bobber that you have in the video? In the spring when fish are up shallow, I have been using a clear round plastic bobber so as not to spook fish but it is a pain in the butt to see. That looks low profile enough to work and would be much easier to see.
I’ll see if I can find it again and put it in a video for you!
Where and how close to hook with weight for slip bobber
My split shot placement is 100% dependent on what I am fishing for! If you need it to get down quick put it closer with a bigger one... If you are fishing very pressured waters then keep it farther away! Just remember that you want to be able to cast accurately!
Please let me know which is best size thill balsa unweighted slip bobber to be used when fishing for crappie? I will be using a 1/16 oz jig underneath.
Depends on how you want to fish it but the sizes should be on the Thill Pro series bobbers?
I have noticed a lot of the thill bobbers don’t say how much weight there rated for is there a guide
I think there is a weighted series that has the weight needed for neutral buoyancy stamped on them!
Nice video man!
Awesome video.
What was the bobber size you had in your hand at 8:46?
Pretty sure it was the Large or the XL?
I just bought 2 wobble bobbers weighted by thrill and it says it floats 1/4 oz I cant wait to try them thank you so much for this helpful video (what do you think would be a good slip Bobber for catfishing?)
If you are using big cut bait Thill makes a nice Big Bobber for just that purpose! I think they are called the Big Fish Sliders?
@@DWSOutdoors okay thank you for the info!! as of right now im using 1inch hot dog or chicken cubes
you could get away with the biggest Thill Pro that I have listed probably for those? But if not big enough look into the Big Fish ones! Good luck!
I tell people all the time, you can literally catch any fish in any situation with the correct slip bobber presentation but it's really hard to pull lead core or plannar boards between docks, or through wood or reeds. Their the ultimate lure
EXACTLY! Everyone should always have a Slip Bobber Rod at the ready! lol
@@DWSOutdoors , I have a bet with my brother that I can catch a Laker on superior in 200 ft of water with one. Just waiting on the weather!!
Last winter would have been a good one by the Islands!
@@DWSOutdoors for sure. I wanna do it on open water this summer. Getting a no wind day that coinsides with no work is a challenge. I can limit out in no time jigging so it's just a manner of staying in place long enough for a way too small jig to drop to the bottom. You should come film it!!
@@paulnokio1199 That would be FUN!
Very informative! Great job!!! What do you think about Rocket Bobbers?
Pete Peterson they have their place
Can you show something in deal for the slip bobber stop?
Jim Nummerdor way ahead of you 👊🏼😎 ua-cam.com/video/-y9YVnk-CFU/v-deo.html
Do you have wight chart for the thill slip bobber i have few bubber but no any thing on it
I do not but I really just fish the lightest setups I can get away with!
When fishing from the shore what keeps the bobber (line) from moving back in when you want to keep it out? Do you have to fish the bottom?
A properly weighted slip bobber setup will sit relatively still! Even in waves!
@@DWSOutdoors does the weight have to lie on the bottom or can it be suspended?
It can be suspended the idea with these Thill floats is to have it weighted where the floats white line is just under water! I like to use a specific weighted jig and then try to use as small of split shot as I can when trying to get it to stay in place other wise I always go with as light a setup as I can get away with!
@@DWSOutdoors thank you!
Good luck and more importantly HAVE FUN!
In Dallas. Going to find the depths of my water. Thanks man!
Found it ... lol... now you need to do a video just on ice fishing slip bobbers😜
Normie 4210 😂 I use the same ones
DWS Outdoors oh ok that makes it easier... I would assume the pencils/small slender ones for pannies larger ones for eyes and such?
Yeah each one has a neutral bouncy weight to it so fish them accordingly :)
Thank you DWS 👍✌️
Now I just have to find/purchase them in quality 😜
god dam this was a great video. same boat as Chris. i've spend the last week googling and trying to watch videos on this topic but wasn't finding much that really broke this down for new guys. until I found this video. Thanks a million man. now i just need to find a store that actually has these in stock hahah seems people have realized how good these are. the bobber hunt is on!
Do like I said and get one every time you buy bait lol It is a VERY good investment I don't care what my GF says! LMAO!
That was a trophy walleye. LMAO 😂👍
The Political Fisherman 😂 perspective
The Political Fisherman here is the latest PB TROPHY 👊🏼😎🎣 ua-cam.com/video/0kejvqcim0s/v-deo.html
@@DWSOutdoors right on, I'll check it out. I fish lake Erie so it's almost like cheating. LOL 👍
Lol Not so much cheating but your in need of MUCH higher standards! Hahaha I need to get out there the next time it freezes good!
@@DWSOutdoors I'm checking out your other video now. I'll sub for you, you seem to have fun👍
Little late watching but, I really enjoyed this video.. I live on a small river with big smallmouth, brim and other fish... not very deep in a lot of spots. Havent lived here long vit this really helps me a lot. Do you have an Instagram?
Instagram and Twitter: @DWSDave31 - Facebook: DWS Outdoors.
@@DWSOutdoors yes sorry brother I was a little slow on seeing the main page picture.
great video! but please dont say trophy walleye then show us an average 18"-er lol
twaldo100 I’m confused? This video is about the usefulness of slip bobber fishing?
twaldo100 😂 sorry I just rewatched it! 18in is a good fish but I know what a trophy Eye is 😂 I got 3 of them this winter alone 👊🏼😎🎣
This video is timely as I used slip bobber rigs successfully last weekend out fishing from shore on the Rideau River. I caught a couple of nice bass (smallmouth) and a slab crappie (my personal best to date) fishing from shore with slip bobber rig on a medium light rod and reel combo. I used earthworms for bait. When I landed the crappie it generated excitement on the wharf among the other men fishing. Many came and dropped their lines in the spot I caught the crappie. No more crappie were caught that afternoon, but I caught several small perch and some bluegill and pumpkinseed. I used a medium-sized slip bobber with 6 lb test and a no. 8 hook. It bothered me that a few of the fish swallowed the hook. I tried my best to remove the hook without harming the fish, but regrettably, the fish did not survive. What do you recommend for a hook size in summertime pan fishing?
I try to use a bigger Jig when possible for just that reason of them swallowing the hook! The jigs I list in this videos description are one of my go to's! ua-cam.com/video/otslUR-48co/v-deo.html
How do you tie a bobber knot?
I have a video for that 👊🏼🎣 ua-cam.com/video/-y9YVnk-CFU/v-deo.html
